    Once I input the ip address to check if it’s up, I get ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED. An no site popping up, any ideas?

    Great video. Current versions of Rasperry Pi OS use NetworkManager rather than dhcpd, hostap and dnsmasq. Any chance you could create an update that shows the NetworkManager commands to set the Pi up as a hotspot?

      @@fearapjr If you are asking am I a bot or something, then no. I just hoped you could do an updated video for the newer version of Pi OS.

    I'm getting stuck at the step for the sudo apt install dnsmasq (13:37), I already have my pi connected to my home wifi is that what is messing this up? it says connecting to raspian.raspberrypi.org, but then times out with a failure

      Probably. Can you plug it into ethernet? This setup isn't able to act as a wifi client and access point at the same time.

      @@Rickmakes ok i understand now, I'm trying to use a pi zero w with a usb dongle, so it may just not work for this one. do you think could i set it up on my pi4 and then plug in the sd card?

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I don't have a pi zero but I think that should work fine.

      @@Rickmakes thank you for your help, i almost have it working on my pi4, i will let you know if i can get it working on the zero after. i'm getting hung up again though. I can connect to it through wifi, i see it pop up as an option on my lap top, but i cant get it to ping. when i ping 192.168.1.1 it says request timeout for icmp_seq 0,1,2,3 etc. If i can connect to it on my laptop that should mean its good, what step could i have messed up to not let me use myencyclopedia like you did? it just tells me no internet no matter what i type in.

      @@Rickmakes thanks so much for your time and for responding. I ended up finding the kiwix hotspot on their website and used that method instead. thanks to you though because if i hadn't seen your video I wouldnt have known this was possible. Also i got it to work on my Pi0W

    Hey I don’t know if you still pay attention to your comments but when I go to my ip address I get a welcome to nginx page. Any idea where I went wrong?

      Did you start with a fresh Raspberry Pi build?

  • @TimothyCairns
    @TimothyCairns 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    thanks. pi@raspberrypi.local seems to work instead of pi@192.etc ... (as long as you have only one pi on the network I guess) .. btw the 80GB version of wikipedia takes 5 hours to copy using scp

      I did a video on building a Raspberry Pi kiosk running Kiwix server and and the Surf browser. th-cam.com/video/gtlydT6Lumg/w-d-xo.html I used the smaller version for the build in the video but I also built one with the full version (which I demonstrated towards the end). It still blows my mind that you can have a copy of Wikipedia on a microSD card and have room to spare.
