That literally was an ending that sent chills down my spine. I loved Darksiders but everyone at the time seemed to brush it off as a god of war clone....
I didn't even know Darksiders was a franchise until I got a copy of Darksiders II with my Xbox 360. But then, I got the Warmaster and Deathinitive editions of each game respectively and was finally able to play Darksiders I. I haven't beaten it yet and it may take a while before I do. See, unlike II, I wouldn't be able to sit down and play the first one for hours on end. Rather enjoying it in short bursts
Aside from Death, Vulgrim is my favorite! It always puts a smile on my face whenever I have to interact with him, in any Darksiders game. I even ordered a statue of him to put on my desk and since it was the series' anniversary, it comes with a free artbook and soundtrack which I'll be happy to use in my car.
Darksiders 1 is IMO perfect aside from 3 elements. For how amazing and varied this game gets, the intro is quite slow. It gets into its own only at the Twilight Cathedral. There isn't enough content in the game to naturally max out all gear. You need to do some pointless grinding to max out everything. And it takes a while. 1 achievement is really dumb. It asks of you to do 50000 miles or smth like that on the horse, but you never need to travel that much. So you need to run in a circle for 30 minutes to do that achievement.
Great video. Darksiders is one of my favourite series out there, and this was a good take on it. It's not the most original game out there, but it's a great combination of a bunch of my other favourite games, all wrapped together with a great art style. And to add another game to the list of things that Darksiders takes from somewhere else, the combat style based around directional inputs and pause combos is lifted from Devil May Cry. People often say the combat is a copy of God of War, and while that's true to a certain extent, it's actually closer to DMC in its control scheme and overall feel.
Actually if you pay attention, Darksiders is very similar to a very old game: Legacy of Kain. Seriously: War looks a bit like Kain, while Death looks a lot like Raziel.
@@efxnews4776 totally dude. I love that game too. I was kinda bummed that when you get souls in Darksiders the controller doesn't rumble like in Legacy of Kain.
What'd make Darksiders 1 even better is if they introduced the scene where you find your horse sooner in the game. Probably would have also made the game faster to play through

I thought the second part of your name was just there for fun... but you really DO grant wishes. Wishes I never thought I had. I have seen a bunch of your other videos before, and since then i've kept an eye on your channel. You, sir, are flipping amazing. I am indeed entertained. You explained everything very well and brought up things I hadn't really stood still at before, like the Shadow Lurker trials. I honestly found them to be kind of fun and gave each individual skeleton in that particular trial a name. Some challenges were pretty stupid, but quite a few of them I enjoyed. But that indeed does not take away that the presence of these things are basically to pad out the game more. I think it would have been more interesting if these trials were optional and presented by some sort of Arena Master in the Ashlands in exchange for an interesting reward. I certainly agree that collecting every collectable is sadly, a wasted opportunity, especially regarding the Wrath Stones. Wrath Abilities, spare for Stoneskin (I didn't use Wrath abilities all that much) are useless on the final boss as well as the Scythe and Tremor Gauntlet, which is a load of bovine excrement (i don't like to swear, so i find alternatives for swearwords). I found the Enhancements to be interesting modifiers for the weapons, and some of the legendary ones, too, can only be found at pretty much the end section of the game, making them almost useless. It's again some wasted potential. It has to be said, though, that collecting the pieces of Abyssal Armor are more worth to seek out. You see, if you have collected the full set and later replay the game from the beginning, you can choose to already wear the Abyssal Armor, making your playthrough quite a bit easier in the combat segments, while the chests that held the pieces before now give a bunch of souls. I don't know how many exactly, though. Also, you are not chased by the Stygian at all until his boss fight. Those are only simple Ashworms (and ye gods, that particular one where you had to run from platform to platform to avoid him is flipping tedious! At least you get to kill him as soon as you get Ruin back), the Stygian was shackled and imprisoned by the demons in that area the whole time up until you reach him. Why do those idiots even stand near a giant creature like that? I must admit that I never really had the feeling of "this reminds me of this game", as I have never had interest in playing a LoZ, GoW, Portal or PoP game (though I have seen a few LoZ walkthroughs and have since a short time interest in playing that last title) and thus never have, so I acknowledge it more as its own game, despite the fact that i do know what those games are about and that Darksiders does borrow gameplay elements from it. You hit the nail on the head regarding the chests and their locations, I realize now. For most chests that you can only reach with certain abilities, you only need to use that ability once and party horns sound because you've reached it already. It is probably one of the reasons why I honestly like Darksiders II more, to be honest. Even though that game is also pretty rough around the edges, especially the worlds in the second half, it is still a game i really love. Thank you again for this awesome, informative video on one of my favorite franchises. Your work on this video really paid off. Have a good one!

This isn't my first time watching this video. But I just want to say since you mentioned that the guy who voice acted war also voice acted Gaara, I cannot hear one without hearing the other. And I don't think that's a bad thing. I liked War in Darksiders (though Death is my favorite) his stoicism, his way of honor, fearlessness, and reserved nature, about him truly made him stand out as a unique embodiment of war as it would've been just as likely for the character to be a berserker, blood-drunk, screaming, killer like Kratos from God of War. And Gaara was possibly my favorite character in Naruto. His voice, his unsettling presence, his sadistic mindset matched with his powers were just great. Edit: Quick correction, the boss doesn't follow you in the Ashlands its just one of the few worms roaming in the sands. The real boss is chained up at the very end of the level

the game is basicly zelda with some character-action combat on top. you have your dungeons, small keys and dungeon items, your zelda style boss fights that rely on you understanding of said dungeon-item. the items themselves are pretty much zelda staples as well.
@@FelixS. Combat + the souls mechanic is almost a carbon copy of GoW, as well as several other things such as those grapling hook QTEs and the hovering.
@@ShadowMan64572 Yeah and as I and Francis said the whole Games structure is exactly taken from legend of Zelda. Semi Open world, dungeons, dungeon items, level design, puzzle design, keys, boss keys etc. It also has some elements from god of war but 85% of its dna is from Zelda.
@@FelixS. Most of what you said can be summed up as "dungeons and exploration," while the combat and "gathering souls" stuff are clearly ripped from GoW. So it's more like 50/50 tbh.
You compared to Darksiders to Zelda way to much
Oh look, a stinky game...
Why stinky?
