    My UEFI setting is displayed, I pressed it after disabling the security which worked for my Toshiba satellite C55-B5302. After doing so, and restarting back to the BIOS menu, the HDD recovery option pops up, but will not let me press yes. It only lets me press no. When I press yes, it freezes. Please help if you can

    Yep, I have a dozen of these and Boot Mode is always grayed out. FYI these 32GB machines work great if you know how to use them and manage your expectations. Not a good choice for an only computer since you should wipe & reinstall windows every major update. But a fine coffee shop/travel laptop for email, TH-cam, Netflix and light general use. Chrome takes one whole GB on a system where Windows 10 usually leaves 10GB or less free, so forget Office or any other big apps. Windows updates often require you to add external memory (SD card or USB drive) just to have room to install, so here's how I install updates and wipe the whole 32GB memory for a clean install. Use another computer to "create media" on a USB drive, typically ~3GB. Set your Toshiba boot order to USB first then power up to install Windows. Select CUSTOM INSTALLATION, then delete all partitions and install. Give it an hour to grind away, then your computer is as good as new. Click Windows update a few times to get the latest drivers and you're done. Plan to do that twice a year, so store/backup ALL of your files on a nano USB drive or SD card. Hint: get a tiny white "Macbook micro SD card adapter" off Ebay for a dollar and add a 32GB micro SD card. Doubles your memory and fits flush in the laptop.

    If you still can't access these settings, you can install an operating system using a GPT partition. If you are using a program such a Rufus, you can choose "GPT partition scheme for UEFI" in the second drop-down menu, labeled "partition scheme and target system type".
    Hope this helps!

    as i can see there you have not registered a user or supervisor, Once you will do that you will have levels of interaction with BIOS full-restricted-read only!!! Choose full and the greyed UEFI will become blue :) also keep the secure boot off!

    • @aleksdude
      @aleksdude  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah.. okay. In bios, I need to register a user or supervisor? I never figured it was as easy as this. I'll give this a try on the next computer where UEFI is disabled.
      I know.. I needed secure boot off so I could install windows 7... alas.. I ended up installing windows 10 64 bit because I couldn't create a UEFI boot for windows 7 easily.

    i just got one of these laptops, It has windows 10 on it, problem is there is no audio driver for win10, so i wanted to install win7 on it, it wouldn't allow me to do anything, so i searched, i saw someone else switch from EUFI to CCR or what ever it is, he said that will allow me to install, i went in to the bios and it wasn't highlighted for me to be able to change from EUFI, so i went and switched to unsecure mode, went back and it was highlighted and i was allowed to change it from EUFI, Now i'm just in the process of installing win7 as i type. seems a cool laptop other than the silly win10

I would reflash except that my battery won't charge so the I can't flash it. I haven't found a work around and don't feel like purchasing a new battery.

    My Toshiba laptop BIOS VERSION 1.10 does not boot, able to go to BIOS, enter in SECURITY change secure boot, ADVANCE and enter into system configuration but to my surprise, this option BOOT MODE (UEFI BOOT or CSM BOOT) is not found there. how can
    fix this? any assistance?

    • @aleksdude
      @aleksdude  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Hendrix... that's a tough one. Is yours a windows 8 or 10 machine?
      Trying to get your machine back up so that you can retrieve data is a pain in the butt. Hopefully you backed up your data.
      I recently had to deal with a windows boot failure issue. I spent 2 days trying to trouble shoot it.. and I ended up hitting my desktop in angst.
      End result... I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled windows using a uefi USB installer whichi is common with windows 10. I believe you can use windows media creation tool to create a usb boot disk. But like I said, this isn't a fix.. but just reinstalling windows. Windows 10 will allow you to install sort of a trial version. I'm not sure how limited the functionality is.. I think you can't update windows..

    the only way i was able to resolve this is by removing the battery, there are two screws holding the battery, take those out, let the laptop stay off for about 1hr if you can open inside the laptop and remove the cmos battery too, once thats done the laptop will reset to factory defaults, go to bios->advanced-> , system configurations you will be able to change the boot from uefi to cms boot.

      How do you register ? The superviser account what do I write ?

    • @BlueChinchillaEatingDorito
      @BlueChinchillaEatingDorito 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Under the Security tab, hit enter on Supervisor Password and then enter the password you wish to use. It will ask you to re-enter it to confirm. After that hit F10 to save and exit. As a side note, hitting F2 may not always prompt you to enter the Supervisor password. If that's the case, you won't be going into the BIOS with supervisor privileges. To get that supervisor password prompt, open the command prompt in Windows and enter the command "wpeutil shutdown" to perform a complete shutdown. Once it has shutdown, turn on the computer again and hit F2 to enter the BIOS as normal. You should then be prompted to enter the supervisor password.

    i disabled secure mode and it did work - i think it needs an update
    have you tried setting this to secure off, saving changes and rebooting? that used to be the case with thhe old bioses...
    the laptop im fixinf is for m neighbour and its a tochiba satellite L50-D same bios everything.
    so, set secure boot to disabled, then save and exit and power off the machine
    then enter bios and you should be able to change fomr EUFI to the other one which makes it you be able to boot off of a usb device and thus install windows...
    hOWEVER, if you can burn a DVD install from the windows media creator that will oot as the DVD drive is UEFI capable and that is why windows media creator still lets u burn to a dvd...
    : )
