As I think about this story, I see that sometimes when God brings us deliverance, hope, peace, and life, he does it in unexpected ways. He set the people of Judah free, but he did it by shaving off their hair (wiping out their vines and turning their crops into wilderness). The way God brings deliverance may seem unfair, but in the end, he provides for us abundantly in exactly the ways we need. He levelled the vineyards, but he provided livestock to meet every need. This is a reminder for me to trust God in the good and bad things. Even when it seems like he is taking something away, I can trust it's part of the process of providing for my deepest needs.
