Special day today. MY granddaughter , age 15, spoke at her confirmation today. She said she questioned everything and her Dad reminded her that Christ died on the cross for us. She said, but he died for everyone. His response was: but he would have done it if there was only you. A powerful message for all of us.

I don't usually cry for 99% of movies, even real accounts, but I can honestly admit that I did cry over this one. Lee's story is so inspiring, moving, and touching. It's an amazing account. Praise the Lord!

The work that he did transformed his entire family's life for the better. A must watch movie!!!
Looking back on it, this was a really good Christian movie, on par with the production value of secular Hollywood films. It wasn't over dramatic and the acting wasn't bad like most other Christian films. Most of all, it isn't one of those that portrays the opposing side as total a-holes, it carefully considers the point of view of everyone who was involved in this story and focuses on evidence found by the real journalist, Lee Strobel. Unlike other Christian films, this is a great watch for religious and non-religious people alike.

I have to say I do not believe in a religion, but a relationship. There is a significant difference, but yeah it is a really good movie presented with cold hard facts. There was some apologetics in there, but one thing I would love to add to the list of facts in it is if matter is made up of elements, and elements are made of the environment then what created the universal environment to create the elements to create the matter to create the universe? Keep in mind gas is elemental to, so that falls in line with matter, and scientifically it is impossible for something to be created out of nothing, unless there was already something that was a constant. Let’s dive into how everything in this universe is changing in a constant way, but in the way it changes it is non constant, which makes it impossible for it to exist forever with that kind of irregularity, and means it had to have a creation. Now I believe that should be your first step in considering what to believe.
@@gabeshawn7072 yep, that's called the cosmological argument for God, and it's part of the many evidence based arguments of apologetics. However, I don't think it's the first step. I think the first step is the transcendental argument, and then the cosmological argument comes next. Check it out if you havent already.

I'm an atheist and I want to see this. I thoroughly enjoyed Lee Strobel's show Faith Under Fire where he demonstrated his tolerance for dialogue and inquiry. He seriously tests his faith in the search of truth, unlike most believers (and even atheists). Will be back later to share my review. I'm most interested in how they cover the Gospels and resurrection claims.

I can't read anything he wrote, even his fiction (I'm generously construing his theological writings as nonfiction), without rolling my eyes so far they go back into my sockets. This is fairly typical of his muddleheaded nonsense. He's either saying something obvious and trite or, construed differently, something absurdly wrong. The obvious and trite interpretation is that without the _concept_ of god, there would be nothing about which atheists could express their skepticism. This is clearly independent of the question of whether god exists. If no god existed, and nobody ever conceived of a god, then we'd all be atheists in fact, although there likely wouldn't be a name for it. The absurdly wrong meaning is that it is the prior existence of god that somehow creates atheists, which makes no sense at all. And despite the fact that it makes no sense whatsoever, I think that's likely the meaning Chesterton intended because he was actually a very stupid man. Chesterton adopted the gnomic, oracular style that substituted sounding profound for actual profoundity that one usually encounters in the more tedious works of French postmodernists. As P. B. Medawar once wrote of Pierre Teilhard du Chardin, Chesterton "can be excused of dishonesty only on the grounds that before deceiving others he has taken great pains to deceive himself."

I lost my faith for a moment. Went for my own quest like his, maybe in a little less heroic way, it was just through reading bunch of stuff. But this movie felt very relatable.

Reading is a fine way of learning, however it seems you may not have exhausted the breadth of literature necessary to draw an objective conclusion. As someone who was raised in a devout Catholic family and community, I understand the pressure to have faith that you may feel. When you begin to consider the evidence, however, it becomes clear that the claims of the text are impossible and contradicted by physical evidence. Genesis by far is the most egregious text, but the accounts of miracles are also flawed.
I'm getting there. Saw this last night and was amazing. Storyline, direction and well acted. It was moving to see a great film that also promoted a message that is important. I'm taking baby steps towards Jesus (after years of saying I'm not sure what is up there) and it feels strange and good at the same time.

It was a really good movie! God touched my heart through it. The preview is a bit much with the music and the over- dramatization of the shroud, but there are some real moments in the film and it has enough meat to be interesting. Skeptics would still want a bit more I suspect, but the Holy Spirit works how He wishes, so I have faith that the movie will speak to hearts, and give hope to couple or families in the same situation.

Kechan Williams I believe in God entirely. Yet, rest assured there are many contradictions in the holy Bible. To begin with, Jesus the tender, loving and forgiving Lord is incongruent with the judgmental God of the Apocalipsis (Revelation.)
Furthermore, Noah's ark is entirely inconsistent with a loving and merciful God. How can God possibly kill all of life, children, women and everyone else through a flood? That is something Jesus would never do. In the parable of the prodigal son Jesus shows us a kind and forgiving father.
Jesus teaches us to forgive 70 X 7, yet God does not forgive?
We need to realize that God is Real yet humanity has misinterpreted many things.

Hey buddy, prove to me that there is a god, atheists can't prove that there is no god. Why? Because it is a negative statement. If you are asking if something is, all you have to do is find 1 example of that thing being what it is, in this case, god existing. A negative statement "if something isn't" or in this case "god doesn't exist" now we must check the whole entire universe to look for god. It is like me asking you to look in your car for an elephant... then I tell you "oh, forgot to say, the elephant is invisible" you at this point say "there can not be an elephant for my car is too small" I say "its microscopic." See how there is no proof that these statements aren't true, the elephant could be invisible and microscopic, it shouldn't be possible since it does not follow the laws of the universe, but you can't prove it without finding a way to see invisible things and then looking everywhere in your car. SAME THING! God defies the laws of the universe, so all we can do (atheists) is look for proof. Why would we look for proof of god's existence if we are trying to prove that he doesn't exist? Our goal is to find no proof, and so we have done, proving that it is most likely that god doesn't exist, therefore HE DOESN'T EXIST.

I just finished watching this epic film on Netflix. WOW! What a phenomenal true story of one atheist's journey to finding his loving Creator.
Lee Strobel was an award-winning investigative journalist for the Chicago TribuneI with a masters degree from Yale Law School. However, after his wife's conversion to Christianity Strobel began investigating the Biblical claims of Christ which changed his life forever.
I highly recommend this well-produced movie to anyone.

The very word religion is mentioned only 7 times throughout the entire Bible. Now let's take a look at all those Gods you mentioned, we can focus on 2 main ones because combined they make up just about half the worlds population it would seem ..I spent 4 years in Japan and I love the Japanese people , I have sat with them as they worship Buddha, I have lived in the mountains of northern Japan, made some very good friends. I have also told them Buddha is still in his grave.
I have sat with Muslims and I love them and I tell them Muhammad is still in grave.
This movie is about a man who set out with everything in his favor to put together a case against Jesus. But he could not. Because the evidence was overwhelming that in fact Jesus was exactly who he said he was.

I highly recommend this movie to teach people how to do reliable scholarly research. Back in the early 1980s Lee Strobel had to do it the hard way. Now we have the internet...
First off, Lee Strobel's book was published in 1998, not the early 1980s.
And more importantly, do you really think that reliable scholarly research consists of only getting one side to a story, and from the most extreme conservative side at that? For example, despite the fact that many of his interviewees smear the Jesus Seminar, he didn't attempt to solicit any rebuttal from any members of the Jesus Seminar, who are mostly moderate-to-liberal Christians and Jews rather than atheists. It's basic journalistic ethics to solicit rebuttals from the target when your interviewees negatively comment on another person or group. Strobel abandoned his journalistic ethics - if he ever had any to begin with - in order to present a one-sided propaganda piece.
He didn't bother to interview even any less doctrinaire Christian scholars, who might have cast doubt on his interviewees' certitudes, let alone interview any atheists in the field of philosophy or religion, nor did he evince any knowledge of their writings. (And there were important atheist writings he could have consulted at the time, such as _The Miracle of Theism_ by the Australian philosopher J. L. Mackie and _Atheism: A Philosophical Justification_ by the American philosopher Michael Martin.) He was only interested in presenting one side of the story and he got it. Arguing for any position is easy when you're prepared to ignore all the rebuttals.

For those without faith, may you please continue searching for the truth. We as a society must understand and accept that people can have a different belief that is not shared with our own and that does not make them wrong or evil or incorrect. There are many religions throughout the ages that no longer have faithful members. For those with faith consider those of non-faith to be of those lost religions and just as you do not believe in zeus for example, they may not share your beliefs. As for the faithless, please understand that people have found happiness and satisfaction in their faith.
At the end of the day everyone has a popshot loaded and ready to make and quick verbal assault on someone's belief or lack thereof but at in the end, I'd rather make someone think or smile than upset. We are all humans sharing this great earth of ours and no matter much it may bother us, we're stuck here together for now.

The burden of proof is on the believer. They are the one's positing something supernatural exists. If the proof is only found in years of study, then offer an abstract. Should be pretty easy.
For example, evolution is the change in the frequency of alleles within a population over time due to natural selection. To fully understand all parts of that would take years of study, but it does in fact provide a starting point for argument.

As someone who is neither an atheist nor a Christian, I find the comments to be depressingly predictable.
Atheists seem to think that insults are going to persuade their opponents rather than the Reason they pay so much lip service to.
Christians think that statements that are more or less "Atheists are mean!" and "Yay, Jesus!" are going to be efffective counters to atheist trolling.

I live in Chicago and am a Mike Vogel fan, I wish I had know this was premiering that night at AMC River East. I live close to that theatre and would have gone over to get a glimpse of one of my favorite actors. I like the wide spectrum of characters that Mike Vogel has portrayed. From a baggage handler who loves to give advice about women to his buddies in She's Out Of My League, to a Emergency Room surgeon in the series Miami Medical, to a Boeing 707 captain for Pan American Airlines in the 1960's golden era of air travel, to the character of Bobby in Blue Valentine, a sad ex-boyfriend of the main character, to Dale "Barbie" Barbara in the series Under The Dome. The only difference here is that we are putting our faith in different things. I believe that there is a god who created matter, space, and time simultaneously. I do not believe that one of these three can exist without the other two. If you have matter, but no space or time, when and where would you put it? If you had space and matter but no time, when would you put it? And if you had space and time but no matter, what would there be? The only difference in our arguments is where we put our faith. The movie is waaaay better than the trailer makes it seem! The trailer's music makes it seem super dramatic lol. But the movie is amazing. Also, just putting it out there, it got a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (and Faith-based films usually get rated 20% and below)...it was actually really well-made, presented great evidence, and was quite touching :)

As for Lee Strobel he admits in his book, THE CASE FOR CHRIST, that he wrote it to "retrace and expand upon his journey." So we don't know what his original journey to allegedly disprove Christianity consisted of, or how little he knew about the NT, history or philosophy prior to converting. THE CASE FOR CHRIST was composed 16 years or more after he'd already converted and been working as a minister at his church for years. It looks like his original journey consisted of simply reading a few apologist's books by conservative Christians, books probably suggested by his wife who was probably asking friends at church for "good books for my husband to read." I am a Christian (specifically Presbyterian). I however, do NOT like most Christian "based on a true story" films. As much as I may agree with their messages, that doesn't make them good films, and their general audience is filled with "If you don't like it, you are a bad person." stereotypes that I do not particularly find a likeness towards. But this does look quite interesting. Will see it if I get a chance.

Project: 5 Movie I agree but this was honestly a well made film. One of the few. Most God/religious movies tend to be cheesey. This was a good film weather your an atheist Muslim or Christian.
....music was a tad too epic for this trailer. Felt more like I was going to do battle with the 1000 furious alien demons from Supron planet system than watching a journalist do research and debate holy men.
I cannot recommend this movie enough. It's a powerful, well produce, well-written & acted Christian film. It's my favorite Christian film of the past decade.

If this were a made up character that would be true. But this is a dramatized version of a true story of a person who took the initiative to disprove Christianity. He wasn't really talked into it. He launched out on a strident effort to prove it was false. That's a big difference from what you described and certainly the main character in God is Not Dead. How is it harmful to tell a true account of someone who set out not to just find out what the evidence showed, but that the evidence showed it was a sham--then came to the exact opposite conclusion. Considering what the claims of Jesus are, specifically if the evidence points to and not away from the Ressurection--that's in no way harmful. Pointing to the reality of God, and how despite all the evil and selfishness mankind has caused He has met us at every place we have been--no matter how low we have sunk. That this life is not the final say and there is more to existence then we can comprehend. That's the greatest news the world can ever receive. If the evidence points to that--we should proclaim it from the rooftops.

The folks at Pure Flix have this weird misconception about what Atheism is. In this film, in God's Not Dead, and in several of their other films, their Atheist characters are depicted as people who have lost their faith due to some personal trauma, and who find their faith once again through their experiences in the film, generally by being talked into it. The problem is that repeating this character type over and over again teaches the Christians watching these films that Atheists are all spiritually broken people that can and should be converted and brought back into the fold with a bit of convincing, and that's not really what's going on with most Atheists. It's bound to create situations where Christians try to convert Atheist friends, Atheist family members, and utterly ruin their relationships with them. It's terribly harmful.

Now this movie The Case for Christ its based on a book and based on the true story of Lee Strobel's quest to find the truth about Christianity, so depicting this man as how you perceive it, is exactly what you will find in the book. I will recommend you to wait for the movie to come out and watch it to make judgment on the intention and its similarity to other films.

Lee Strobel (the main character in this film) did not even have faith in Christ to begin with, if you read his book then you will see that he investigated Christianity as a skeptic. He scrutinized the available evidence and the evidence led him to Jesus.

My religious sister gave me the book Case for Christ about two years after I came out as an atheist. I read through it and was surprised that I could refute every single point Strobel made with contemptuous ease. This was the book my sister handpicked to try and convert me? This was the book religious people thought presented good arguments? That says more to me about the validity of the faith than anything else.
And for everyone saying Strobel began an investigation to disprove god and ended up converting, that is most likely a complete lie. If he began as an atheist, why did he only seek out Christians when trying to 'disprove go', and not even one well-respected, intelligent atheist? Why was he convinced by arguments like "well, one guy said that five hundred other guys said something, so it must be true!" Lee Strobel is a charlatan and a fraud, plain and simple.

Something changed all of the first followers of Yeshua. What caused the apostles from going into hiding and then two months later going around the Roman-Greco world preaching Yeshua had been raised from the dead? They all believed they saw, talked, ate with, and touched the risen Messiah. God came as a man as he said he would and was killed by his own creation in order to make a way for his creation to become Sons of God.
Why did they take in the Turin shroud? It ruins real evidence for the resurrection, it's not in the book and a medieval shroud Has nothing to do with Jesus :-(

Another is Tacitus, a Roman historian and proconsul of Asia (A.D. 112-117) who wrote "The Annals" which include the account of Nero inflicting tortures on followers of Christus (the origin name of those called Christians) who "suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius Caesar" ..
Another Roman source was Lucian, a second-century playwright who wrote about "The Christians" and the man they worshiped and was crucified and who's tomb was found empty ..
These are first centuries records of Jesus' existence from non-followers which can be found in historical archives along side records of other historical figures you've never met outside of history class that existed before photographs and recordings (Aristotle, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Plato, Ghengis Khan, Galileo, Constantine, Socrates, Copernicus, Queen of Sheba, King Tutankhamun, Ramses the Pharoah, Cleopatra). Unfortunately you have to search for records of Jesus (outside of the bible) because although Pharaohs and Babylonians and Romans and Persians and Greek leaders are recorded in the Bible (to validate their existence in God's order), educational systems refuse to include the records (outside of the Bible) of Jesus in history books.. Read the book this movie is based on "A Case for Christ" and also "Man, Myth, Messiah" by Rice Broocks for more resources of the true existence of Jesus in history.. and may the God i serve (El Shaddai) bless you :)
There were no eyewitnesses of any 'miraculous' Jesus outside of the Bible, that's the point.
Flavius Josephus for example only mentions a Jesus in one small paragraph that some historians now think was inserted at a later date.
The 'real' evidence for your 'miraculous' Jesus if you count out the Bible [and I do] is zero.
Ooooooooh, you're given three accounts of Jesus' existence (Flavius, Tacitus, Lucian) and discount one and your balance sheet says 'zero'..? Hmmmm.. Okay, because some historians (a minority) think it was inserted later you believe them instead of the majority and won't consider the accounts by Tacitus, Lucian, Nero or even Pontius Pilate who was face to face with Jesus or even the census (birth of Jesus) taken by Quirinius for Caesar Augustus or even the account of Theophilus who ordered an investigation of truth to substantiate the existence of "this miraculous Christ" .. because we SHOULD trust historians who told us for years that Marconi invented the radio when it was really Tesla or Samuel Morse invented the telegraph when it was really Joseph Henry or only men worked on sending a rocket to the moon when now we know women played a key part (have you seen "Hidden Figures"?).. All of the evidence is out there, but are you searching for it or just accepting what SOME historians say about it? ..
And what "eyewitnesses" do you have of Ghengis Khan, Galileo, Socrates, Queen of Sheba, Cleopatra ( she was not European), Aristotle,etc outside of history books and artists renderings..? Due diligence will reveal more truth than second hand smoke and mirrors :) Be blessed my brother. . .
The Jpsephus passage is forged and Tacitus was writing in the 2nd Century and only repeating what Christians were saying. Those are the only two non-Christian writings that mention Jesus at all and even then, all they say is that Jesus was crucified. Most scholars think there was really a guy naed Jesus who was crucified, but that's as far as it goes. There's no evidence that he did magic tricks or came back to life. There is no eyewitness evidence for Jesus either. These "case for" books are amateurish and ignorant apologetics which are extremely easy to refute.
Please... Someone tell these religions to stop making bad movies. The trailer gives an immediate feeling of trying to prove something.

The story is based on real person Lee Strobel, who was once a committed skeptic turned Christian after searching out the evidence for Jesus' resurrection, all of which is documented in the book "The Case for Christ." The movie is based on the book.
+Mikkel Lowe It's based on a story that Strobel claims is true, but it's pretty clear that Strobel wasn't a skeptic when he did his investigation. I read the Case for Christ, and you know what really stood out to me? He never once interviews anyone who isn't a devout Christian. Not once. I mean, there are countless Biblical scholars who became atheists after investigating the historicity of the Bible. Yet Strobel, the self-proclaimed skeptic who wants to disprove Christianity, doesn't talk to any of them. And it's not like Strobel does a good job of presenting the arguments that they would have presented had they been interviewed. There are extremely compelling counterarguments to some of the points made in the Case for Christ that have been around for decades that Strobel doesn't even mention.
This all makes it pretty clear that Strobel was never interested in an objective investigation. He certainly wasn't trying to disprove Christianity, as this movie claims. No, he was simply trying to sell a book that he knew would appeal to Christians. He might have done this to spread Christianity, or he might have done this just to make money. In either case, he was *not* an honest skeptic when he started his investigation.

I have a question though: since we are finding ruins that pre-date the bible and all the stories within it, what do we do? Every religion we've created is predicated on our current timeline that's been established by scholars, archeologists, and some anthropologists. Maybe they can intertwine it with stories where Cain and Seth go off to neighbouring villages and start their own families. Ironically, all faith is based off of feelings; which is what trans people say about their bodies and yet religious people have no patience for that. I want to know what religious beliefs humans had +20,000 years ago. THAT would be interesting!

I'm an atheist. I don't think I know it all. Not all atheists "follow" science, whatever that means. Lots of Christians accept the Big Bang (and evolution too for that matter). Why would we spend time hating on a Christian video? Because Humans sometimes like to make fun of things they think are dumb. And this movie is exactly that. So is the book it is based on . And Lee Strobel is a dishonest con man, as are many professional christian apologists.

The life, death and resurrection of Christ cannot be erased from history. A skeptic's search for the truth portrayed in the film reveals how pride blinds human beings in their quest to prove their reason, but in the end God always wins.
There have seen a lot of poorly made Christian films, this is not one of those films; this movie is superb.
