Hi there! I know this video is a year old but I just came across it because I bought this machine very machine recently. I wanted a work horse and I think I found it. The biggest problem with the machine unfortunately is me I think, lol. I’m not experienced and ended up taking it in because I had it all messed up but after servicing it I was told it’s perfect, in fantastic shape, and will outlive us all. It came with a container full of so many attachments that I wouldn’t even begin to know how to use and with 30 cams. I’d be happy if I could just keep a straight stitch going with no issues. I’ve looked for videos on how to set everything properly for basic stitches on common fabrics but I’ve only seen reviews on it for the most part. Like I said. I know it’s not the machine but me so if you ever feel like making a how to on this machine I’d love to learn more properly. Thanks Yannis!

Just saw your comment. I’ve really been busy lately. To be quick. There is a learning curve , when learning how to sew with these vintage sewing machines. Assuming that the machine is mechanically sound , we must pay special attention to the tension that is applied on the thread. On this specific machine we have the top tension which is regulated with the front tensioner dial. And then we have the bottom tensioner. This being a class 15 bobbin , it has a small adjustment screw on the bobbin case, small incrementally turn to the right will tighten , and a small incrementally turn to the left will loosen. Proper tension is of utmost important so that we have the formation of a proper stitch. The thickness of the fabric and also of the thread will dictate when we need to make tension adjustments. It takes some time to learn these nuisances.
Don’t expect to learn everything at once , it takes time and patience. Think of it as an adventure . Good Luck.

I own a 1954 Singer 216G machine that was manufactured ar Singer's factory in Karlsrhue Germany. I acquired it from a craigslist ad in 2011. It came to me with its original portable case, and original wooden base. The machine has the length of chain that you mentioned to hold it up at an angle in order to change the bobbin etc. To prevent the machine and its base from flipping backward when in the raised position, there is a swing-out steel 'outrigger' that swings out 180 degrees from under the right end of the wooden base toward the rear of the wooden base to prevent the machine from toppling over. That outrigger works very well, and stores away at the bottom of the finger well on the right end of the wooden base..

Hi Yannis! I have one of these beauties and absolutely love it! Everything is original and in mint condition, including the lamp, the wooden accessory box with the feet and tools that attaches to the left extending the bed, the booklet that looks like it was printed last week, the tin Singer box... Mine had been purchased in Germany by a lady who used it with extreme love and care, god bless her soul. My best machine and possibly the best Singer ever! I would gladly add a gas strut as you did (well done btw!) but I dare not touch it! - Christos, Thessaloniki GR

Chris, It really isn't that difficult to do the gas strut mod , needs patience, Unfortunately the Greek word ορεξη really can"t be translated in english.

Hi @YANNIS, did you managed to get the missing lamp part? I also have a 316G with a complete lamp assembly. I was thinking on making a printable 3D model of it, i believe it can be post processed and painted to make it look right, considering you still use a LED bacause of the heat.

Giorgio , I have a replacement but love the Led because of it small size. If it was for display , I’d put on the original lamp shade.
