It was Ned’s and Ronny’s first movie. Both went on to have great careers. Ned Beatty is a very underrated actor. Should’ve won the Oscar for Network. He’s great in White Lightning with Burt Reynolds.
Gotta love James Dickey. He performed his lines convincingly...............he was a poet, NOT an actor. Favorite line of the movie: 'these boys is lying' (said by the deputy). I took my girlfriend (now wife) to this movie on a first date. Not the best choice. She reminds me of this EVERY anniversary............#39 is next.
They used the roughest toughest Bill climbing monster of a truck in this movie ,to this day there hasn't been a 4wd vehicle that can out pull an International Harvestor Scout . When Chevy put out the blazer & the jeep Cherokee came out we used to do bumper pulls and I never lost in my old scout 2 ,in granny gear those things will walk up a tree,it's geared so low you can be on a 60 degree incline downhill & you have to give it has to go downhill ,I really miss those trucks .
Has America ever won a war ...like EVER from vietnam to Dessert Storm it was the UK-Infintry no US -soldiers on foot ,know your history as our army,Navy,SAS ..Ect are the best in the world .... USA are to trigger happy and waste tomuch time not planing thing's properly why our lot are the last to leave The Hellmand Province to this day . Poor America is built -on Immigrants & Crime - FACT
Well tell that to my grandfather who served three tours in Vietnam and Cambodia he has seven bullet wounds and PTSD to back it up pictures of him and his buddies throwing charlie into lie pits the Vietnam war was overwelmingly american "know your history" you pommy know it all, and yes we lost the war was measured by body count with the objective of eradicating communism it was a lost cause from the start and not worth the lives and money it cost to fight a war that wasn't ours to begin with 58,000 american soldiers died there so don't belittle their sacrifices in comparison to yours.
What an amazing movie. One of the greatest pieces of art ever made. It's too bad that the rape scene stigmatizes this work instead of Dickey's prophetic true vision of what man has done to the land....and himself.
That scene inputs a very important message into the film. It puts a fear men never think about that women have all the time. And then they all have to go through the same mindgames that women go through afterwards.
Deliverance is nearly the perfect film, except for the day for night bad effect sequences. Those really take the viewer right out of it. How could that have been reviewed and approved?
Man, imagine making a major motion picture in today's day & age, with about 9-10 crew members and a few Jeeps full of gear. Nowadays, there would be 200 people involved and the rape scene would have been partly GGI'd somehow. Simpler times. Better results.
@@douglaspaterson5269 It ruins the film to the point that’s all anyone remembers. Other than the dueling banjos scene of course but even that is an afterthought. But the banjo scene is powerful because it feels creepy and forbidding. The sodomy scene is simply there to shock and repel you when an implication was all that was needed.
Too bad the "scene," out shadows the amazing beauty, symbolism and prophetic nature of one of the greatest American films of all time. Just watched it.
I’m very surprised that this great movie hasn’t been removed from Netflix or anywhere else for the fact of the rebel flag on the vehicle Burt Reynolds was driving.
I guess nowadays an experienced canoeist like Lewis should have known not to take a canvas wooden canoe down a river with rapids. He should have gotten a royalex canoe. The aluminum Grumman may have survived a few bumps but there's a risk of a puncture through the metal hull.
In the book, Lewis only had one canoe which I believe was the canvas one. He had to get the aluminum one from a friend. This coupled with Lewis’ desire to get onto the river before it’s dammed shows how rushed and how many corners he cut. This goes to show how unprepared the four of them were to set off onto that river with open canoes, wooden paddles, etc.
Amazing to see this exists now after years of loving this film 🤘
Bar none one of the best written, produced, directed, and acted movies _EVER_ made, Dickey's masterpiece!
I love Burt Reynolds
That bango sequence was a great moment in Deliverance.
James made one hell of a sheriff.
TY for posting this to show James Dickey when he on the set of Deliverance and doing poetry gigs at Universities. Awesome.
It is such an authentic looking film.
I saw this when it aired on TV during the summer of 1972.
Vahmrick60 Me too, way too young, on a small black n white TV and didn't understand nothing...nuthin' !!! 😉Lol
Vahmrick60 .... It wasn’t on television in 1972 it was at the movie theater.
@@phillipsmom6252 He might've meant this documentary.
in my top 3 movies of all time. so wonderfully atmospheric and brilliant acting by all.
Reynolds Rules in this Great Film!!
He was great as Lewis the doomsday prepper survivalist...Every one in Deliverance was great

Great classic movie. RIP Bill McKinney.

Not everyone can say 'our love is stronger than Deliverance.' Well done, both of you.
Well, in your defense, y’all probably didn’t know about the rape scene. Still a great movie.
James Dicky is a space case.
I always thought the guy who said "these boys is lyin' sheriff" was a relative of the missing mountain man, but I could be wrong.
Outstanding.
Arguably, John Boorman’s greatest film. A remarkable achievement in filmmaking.
Really enjoy that 1969 International Scout that the crew is using. (seen in the first minute or two)

Burt at his best.
I often wonder if this flick was a true story.

Could have been one of the greatest films of all time had one scene been left out.
If you are talking about the sodomy scene that was the beef of the movie.🙈🙉🙊

nice upload, thanks
There's a much better version of this on youtube, but I can't cut/paste for some reason. This one looks like it was recorded with a toaster oven.
Sad, since l remember seeing it when l was young, not having any idea how much damage l would live to see.
Timless classic movie !

I thought we were gonna see the film crew pissing themselves laughing, as Ned Beatty does his love scene.
I love this movie but I don't like what they did to Bob
Wow, hold up - 'written by Jay Anson'... as in the Jay Anson who very poorly wrote the novel of the Amityville Horror?! No way!
He is the Sheriff at the end of the movie.... don't ever come back here!
