My recollection is that they used road power for a little while after they stopped using gensets on this job.

Yes, my understanding is they stopped using the gensets because their performance was quite poor. Nowadays they use local power (but not gensets).
Gensets are shit compared to the SW1500s. UP should have kept them but caved to the "green locomotive" movement.
Have they continued to use sd60m/ sd70ms on the El Segundo since then?
