      They don't tell you this because HP doesn't really want you knowing this information... Unfortunately. You can also access the Service Menu directly if you keep pressing the back button (not the (

      @@tamalodg196 Thank you very much. It did reset my printer. However, after the reset, an error message showed up rejecting all my ink cartridges saying, "failed or damaged ink cartridges" "remove and replace them with new ones". I saw on TH-cam where they said that HP updated firmware has a block for third party ink cartridges, so they won't work on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium Printers and other HP printers also. I always buy hp compatibles from Ebay and they always work. This is my first experience, and it is very disappointing. Can't print. I would appreciate any help.

      I have bought a 8600 plus second hand a few days ago and when i cinnected it to wifi it got automatically updated itself. I was afraid it wont accept my third party cartridges. But it does! Its still accepting, however it is saying that they are counterfeit. I have disabled auto updates, i dont want to be surprised.
      But i believe i now have the latest fw on my 8600 plus and its accepting other cartridges so i dont know wht yours isnt. Did you find solution?

      @@strongarms2127 try removing the chip off your old HP cartridges and place them on the new non HP compatible cartridge.

    Thank you so much. This helped me reset my printer to use the CIS that I've been using for 5 years now. Every once in a while it needs a hard reset for it to continue working. The hard reset gets it working flawlessly again.

    Thank you for this!! I LOVE this printer, but about 6 months back, it started to go into sleep mode..and I could NOT get this printer to NOT go asleep. Every time I needed to print something, I would have to unplug, and wait a minute, then plug back in, then it would print fine! Of course HP wants money to helping.......with this problem...F.O! Thanks again!!

    Sept 3rd, 2024 here. This STILL works. Made me happy. What DIDN'T make me happy is that my HP 8600 and HP 8600 Plus has developed the "ink cartridge is damaged" and "something is wrong with our piece of junk ink system." HP continues to nerf hardware from within the FW if it doesn't match all the parameters and the "Settings Panel" does nothing in the way of assisting one in isolating the problem except to blame it on THEIR ink cartridge. If I didn't have $$$ invested in ink, I'd take this thing out for target practice. "PC Load Letter?!?!?!?!"

    Thank you so much for the info. I haven't been able to get rid of the blinking blue light for a long time. The reset fixed my problem.

    My HP 8600 received the "Message of death" after installing an older cartridge that much have been faulty. Had to order new reman cartridges online. Installed the new cartridge; yet the "message of death" still appeared. I then performed a semi-full reset on the printer. Performing the reset purges the serial number of the old, faulty cartridge from memory. With a new cartridge installed, the printer now appears to be golden. Getting to the reset menu on my 8600 was slightly different (Home, and press bottom 4X), and I only had the option of performing the semi-full reset. The video helped. HP tech support; not so much.

    Awesome! This solved my print ink system error after fixing a spring for the cartridge that popped out. I removed head to do this and I could not get rid of the error despite it being repaired. All better now. Thanks.

    Is there a way to do this without the screen? I've got an error message that won't go away and that's why I need to reboot it. Where's that magic little button or hole in the back you're supposed to use to force the system reset?

      You need to unplug it from power for a few seconds.
      Press and hold the power button (do not release), then plug it on the wall again and keep pressing the button for about 10 seconds.
      When you release the button it will turn the printer on (you will see some leds on).
      Now press the buttons: home, home, back, home, home...
      Then a blue screen will appear, just go to menu, press next a few times and look for reset option, I think there is three types of reset there.

    My print head and cartridges went bad long ago, but since I only use my 8600 to scan to my computer and fax it did not matter. A few days ago the fax would dial, but would never connect. After testing I determined that the telephone line itself was OK, but whenever I plugged the line into the 8600, the line was "in use" just like I left a phone receiver off the cradle somewhere. I could input a fax number and it dials, but never connects to the receiving fax. I progressively went through all three types of resets. When I tried a factory reset, I now get only a cartridge error and then a setup tutorial that keeps repeating. Is there any way to breathe life back into it to just have scan and fax available without buying a new print head and cartridges? The home screen will no longer appear.

    This does [not] work on my 'HP Officejet Pro 8600'. When I hit 'Home, Back, Home home' nothing happens. I do not see the Engineering Menu as you're showing here.

    I'm wondering if resetting would help the printing problem I have been having since the last printer software update. Unless I download a pdf (from an email) and then print it from the download, it prints the pdf very tiny. It happens if I try to print directly from the preview. This was never a problem in the past. It always printed at 100%. Now, it approximately 10%. Thanks!

    Can you help please .My HP 8600 wont budge.Screen 'stuck" in " Printer failure.There is a problem with the printer or ink system".I cant access the Home screen despite using your "fix" as in video.I have also removed a cartridge and closed cover again to get a different screen --it worked once , done semi full reset --did not work.Tried again but not able to get past the above mentioned screen to do reset again.I also removed print head and cleaned everything and flushed all nozzles. Inserted new HP cartridges as well , to no avail.

      Same issue with both of my machines, but at least I get it further with the video's directions than I did before. I just ordered a print head cleaning kit. Hoping that'll resolve the issue.

    Everything is perfect until it restarts. Then I choose the language, country, the "continue" on the next screen, the Setup.
    It doesn't show the "counterfeit or used" screen, just continues to animations.
    From there, it won't leave or clear the animation screen with "replay" as the only option, even after a hard restart. Help!

    After "Service Menu" my 8600 stops responding. Those invisible buttons don't work anymore.

      Yeah mine too. I think this was a HP Software (payback) after losing the Law Suites. Heck I bought 8 Carts in the process of trying to fix the Damaged Cart warning myself in 2 days. Brilliant way for HP to sell off millions of tons of $10,000 per gallon ink carts sitting all over the world... as they middle fingered their loyal customers. Hey HP... the World has wised up, moved on... Yep cheap Eco-Tank no cart systems is the future and You and Big Brother can't control our lives thru a $150 printer any more!

    recibe un saludo tengo un problema con una impresora hp office jet rpo 8210 esta nueva el problema es el siguiente mando imprimir 10 hojas tamaño carta la primera si imprime bien, la segunda imprime la mitad, y la tercera no imprime nada sale en blanco, despues empieza de nuevo una bien etc etc me puedes dar una solucion, gracias .

    I'm am very THANKFUL I ran across this post. I've been working for the last TWO WEEKS trying to get my non HP printer cartridges to work. This has done the trick. I did remove the HP chip off my empty black cartridge and placed it on my new one, which allowed me to remove theirs quite easily. Yes @tonyrushing180, this video is relevant and a life saver. Thank you!
