Booking is more of how an indie show is put together, you take talents that you pay for a show and "book" them, paying them usually for that one appearance. WWE was a lot like that in 70s and 80s, there were a lot more talent from other promotions that Vince was working with, although it was a rare occasion (like the original Tiger Mask appeared on both NJPW and WWE in the late 70s). The set roster became more popular as each of the major promotions became big and guys like Hogan and Savage were big draws, so if you contractually kept the big guys on your show and had a roster, you would make more money than the promotions that didn't have those guys and gave your product sentiment and a reason to tune in. No matter what euphemisms they use, it'll always be wrestling, so don't worry about it.
