The Makarov pistol is an ideal self-defense weapon: compact, streamlined, reliable and safe, you can carry it in your pocket for years with a cartridge in the chamber without even putting the safety on, the self-cocking is as tight as a revolver, and an accidental discharge is impossible.
Вы не правы, как раз таки у этого пистолета случайный выстрел возможен. У него не блокируется ударник и поэтому при падении пистолета на что-то твердое возможен непроизвольный выстрел, когда патрон находится в патроннике
Is it the case that a Makarov is essentially a copy of a Walther PP that would have been for .380 (9mm kurz), but designed to take the Soviet 9x18 instead? I read that the behaviours of 9 kurz and 9x18 are fairly similar.
It's a copy in the sense that it is vaguely shaped the same, has an external hammer, pull down on the trigger guard for teardown, DA/SA with a decocking safety, direct blowback, and is a single stack. Zero parts compatibility. 9x17/9mm Kurz/.380ACP is weaker than 9x18 Mak, which is weaker than 9x19 Luger. Makarov is actually 9.3mm but that's besides the point.

Mine is an 'IJ70' (almost Makarov) --- looks just like one but fires a .380 acp. At first I hated it because pulling the trigger went 'twang' (rather than that solid 'Smith and Wesson thunk' sound as the hammer fell --- unloaded) --- something do do with the hammer spring. But it is a shooter --- very accurate. Around a hundred bucks (new) when I bought it in the mid '90's.

Still appreciate the video and all the comments about the great deals we could get if we owned a time-machine! 😃
Classic firearms was recently doing a deal on the surplus Arsenal Makarovs for $339. My buddy was getting one and he convinced my wife that I needed one too.
@Catgat37 Sounds like a good friend to have!
I had one also 380 I believe the barrels were chrome lined could be wrong I just traded for a Glock 42 had it since 1997 but I didn’t care for the mag release. Mine the slide was pretty hard to rack shot good never jammed.
Had one for years great pistol
I love the Makarov.
They make a swap out for the grip too ,I prefer it actually
Works great in the snow while the target is fleeing.
I would like to see a comparison of the P64 with the PPK. :)
I like fixed bbl handguns almost as much as revolvers .
