I read a book on Angel Investing and the one thing that I highlighted from the book was to use the word consider instead of telling someone they need to do something. I appreciate that fact that you use this, sez alot.

Nice video and great attitude. My little 6 year old son has recently taught be how to beat eBay at its own game. He took an interest in a specific kind of toy, and when we started to explore the listings, we found that we could by multiple lots of this toy (often sold by the parents or resellers) that don't really know what they have and don't want to take the time to assemble it and show the true value of what they have. We have buying them, splitting them into individual sets, assembling them and reselling it.. He's killing it, and it just goes to show that the more things you do in your real life and take an interest in, the more knowledge you are going to have to make a profit reselling.

Our thrift store implemented a return policy on clothing. Now, people can return clothing for store credit. I think this policy sucks, because it encourages people to make bad buys and not learn from them. The BEST learning lessons I ever had was when I lost money. That's a hell of a motivator!

My honey pot is what it is because I've coveted and treasured my co-workers (my thrift store employees). Consistent shopping, calling them by their name, and being genuinely concerned and interested in them as humans has paid off. They look for me at the same time and even begin pricing and stocking when I show up. I love them so much and would do as much for them (and have) as they do for me. This video has cemented my approach.

I check tag color sale and that helps me to get good stuff which are originally priced so high for 50% off, 75% off or even $1. Sometimes I wait for a week or 2 until the color goes on sale.
Also always grab a cart to encourage myself like you do!

Great video. Info, pep talk and kick in the pants.
My tip: Capture what you learn. Build a list of items/brands/categories and keep that list with you. I have a 200+ item/brands/category list that I review before I go thrifting, in the parking lot and even in the store. I built it in Microsoft Excel so I can easily add to and alphabetize it. I honestly think it helps on a conscious and subconscious level. My next step will be adding logos to the list.

I love your videos. I interned at a thrift store a long time ago. What a shocker that experience was for me. I did the administration and pricing of items for them and streamline their system for consistency. I was amazed at how much good items were donated and that were valuable. That really change my perception on thrifting, yes there is a lot of junk, but some things are really valuable too. All your recommendations are really good and inspirational. Thank your for taking the time to share your experience and giving back. Also, thank you for the links.

  • @eblanco7605
    @eblanco7605 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great advice!
Years ago, I was watching a thrifting video and the person said they only look for $100 items. At the time, I thought was impossible.
But as years went on and I honed my skills, I realized it was possible.
You can find an item that will make you $75 and up in profit in just about any thrift store. Like you said, the stores dont know everything.
I like your tip about the shopping cart but for myself, i dont get one. Its my method to be a bit more selective on what im purchasing. Trying not to spend my time and tie-up my cash on low profit items. Obviously if there's a huge haul, i'll grab a cart.

I make every dollar I spend part of The Game. Grocery shopping- sales, discount gift cards, coupons, rebates; Electricity - phantom electronics, comparison of electric use by appliances and light bulbs; buying a car - price, dependability, depreciation and maintenance; it’s not something I think about, I just do it. It’s all par of “The Game of Life.” Learning new things doesn’t end at HS or college graduation. (A mistake by our school system is not explaining the reason and benefit of learning and learning skills including how continually learning improves a person’s life and it’s quality.)
Thrift stores are supposed to take donations and get the the best price they can to support the charity involved. Most put the majority of their profits towards their charity, others make their charity secondary to their paycheck, Goodwill is an example held up by many. I agree the Goodwill CEO has been overpaid in the past by charity standards.
There was a time when people felt they provided a dual purpose; support the community with jobs and low priced goods for those in need as well as support a defined charity. The commercialization of Goodwill shows a family who runs a charity can change from their original goals. But EBay and other platforms have helped in that change.

The thrift stores didn't get smarter... this is what happened. I managed to make it years apon years without the thrifts stores knowing what I do. Insert problem cocky sellers.. the ones running around like its supermarket sweep filling thier carts and then stand there looking up everything only to buy 2 things hours later... the ones making it blatantly obvious as to what theyre doing and I wont even get into the ones who brag like r&+ards to the employees on how much they sold something for. This for real used to be so much fun. But, the insane increase in resellers, thrift stores becoming stupid expensive and the down right flooding of ebay categories is why its becoming less fun. My sell through rate is still over 60% month to month despite this but its getting tiresome. Going to start my own channel over the winter breaking down the real aspects of reselling. I think its time.

My regular thrift store is a small place. For a while it was my honey hole. I profited thousands. About a year ago things changed and they must have hired someone like you used as an example. They figured it out. Prices went Sky high. I found occasional items but stopped going daily. Recently, the thrift / consignment shop directly next door went out of business because the rent became unaffordable. It gave me a new look at why my honey hole evicted the bees. I stop in about once every week or two now. Most of the time, I leave empty handed. In fact, most of the thing's I've bought lately were for personal use at a great deal. Not worth flipping but I can't live without it. A new in box BOSE surround sound for $50. Could have flipped it for $200 but my girlfriend needed surround sound. Thrifting in CA has become quite hard. They need to make money to keep their doors open. I get it. I catch them slipping here and there but most of the time I know I'll walk away empty handed.

Goodwills online store is all over the place with pricing. You can filter by store.
A couple stores had a habit of listing a low price but then insane shipping costs from $90 to $226 for a soft toy or small purse.
Right before Christmas i was browsing and refreshed right after midnight.
They offered 1 day free shipping!
I immediately filtered to those two stores.
My total for about 20 squishmallows was $34.00 and my receipt says i saved $600 in shipping costs. The best feeling ever.
    I sold 1 squishmallow for $170. The rest I made $400 so far .
So yes you are correct. Its a great challenge and can be fun.

I too have noticed the grumbling about how thrifting is “dead” now. Totally agree with you; it may not be as EASY as it was say maybe 10 years ago - but that doesn’t mean treasures can’t be found. I’m having fun doing it anyway!

I have found a gem in my local charity shop. They bag items up in lucky dip bags for £2.50, approximately 20items per bag.
Bought 2 yesterday, in. One bag I had 7 high quality shirts 2 pairs of men’s jeans, 2 women’s tops and a women’s skirt / blouse suit. One of the shirts average £17 alone. Have learned to get crafty in my reselling tactics, sales are up.£££££

I have 10 years retail management experience with a single company. (The first 8 years was a single store)
You're not joking about inconsistent store behavior, because of the revolving staff 😂
And thanks for the confirmation I need to broaden my knowledge... Every time I go to a thrift store I see the miles of clothing, and it bugs me that I know 0 about all clothing. I bought a T-shirt and women's shorts today... Both high quality, cost me a couple bucks, and it's just my toe-in-the-water method of learning something new 😬

Thank you for your insight. You are correct on improving your game. I was at the GW and found a painting that was missed priced at a whooping 9.00 … sold value 5,000$ 👍

Very true on the employees at the thrift stores pricing, if it’s not the managers pricing the items or overseeing pricing they miss a lot of items, plus they pretty much only use eBay for pricing and miss a lot of rare high end brands and older brands/ items.

Very good point on researching items online. I've learned so much in the past year alone just from doing that 😊

I have 7 kids and thrift for stuff i actually use, but try to keep these tips in mind for potential resale value of an item that my kids may not want, or grow out of quickly and it's still in good shape.

You have earned yourself a new subscriber, it's so hard to find people to follow who are not doom and gloom. Just a handful of resellers I follow who keep with the positivity. I agree with all your points, I still find amazing items that are missed, or as you shared have paid up, however, definitely received a strong return back on investment! 😊

I found a store that I have to travel at least 25 min in commute one way. They have 50 cent day... it's amazing! I found a way around the price increase at the local goodwill. Love your advice!
