    This what happens when your manager pushes you hard to meet some unrealistic deadline. Frustration prevails.

    To the benefits justify the risks to privacy and can anyone prevent senior officials from misusing their access to confidential information?

    These breaches highlight the potential snares for Singapore’s push to make data more accessible and centralised.

    funny, I don't think this CNA speaks know that infrustratcture in China is also heavliy rely on windows. From subway turnstiles to bank to airport, window is everywhere. The reason that China was not heavily affected might just because they has GFW (great fire wall) that isolate it network from the world. An intranet for China itself.

    Testing is not the key problem . The key problem is the lack of defensive design in the OS. A bug in a non-core component should not bring down the whole OS.

    • @TeChNoYmE
      @TeChNoYmE หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-xk2zy3ng1o A driver sure is a core component, no?
      The patch being circulated is to delete .sys files under C:\windows\system32\drivers\crowdstrike\
      I wonder how the driver got deployed unchecked and why not all systems were affected because of this driver file bug?
      It's definitely an exploit, but no one would claim given the scale of impact.

    This is very likely due to a human error, and also someone who is careless when it comes to QA and QC before rolling out the content update. A single point of failure like this can cause disruptions to millions, perhaps billions of people down the line. Worst still, it could cause a rolling effect that results in billions or even trillions of loss in money. For the healthcare sector, it might even affect some people's lives.

    CNA, please do not use 'expert' like the one you interviewed from Dorset. He said a strings of words without answering the host question. Seems like he doesn't know his subject matter any more than the host.

    Peel away this confusion labeling the issue as a Microsoft/CrowdStrike issue but instead to just treat it as an IT outage issue which happens all the times and will definitely happen again in future by another bad actor software. Singapore has not suffered as much as some of the foreign companies because as our Minister has put it "some of the services that were disrupted, such as postal services, recovered relatively quickly as business continuity plans were activated." .... "we must always plan for recovery and be able to implement those plans swiftly when needed". That is the keyword and not what some 'experts' trying to hint that you suffer because you run Microsoft OS. You can run on any other OS but if you are not prepared for IT outages, you will not be able to recover fast and you suffer the consequences. The problem is not Microsoft/CrowdStrike. The deeper problem lies within the company's inability to handle and recover from IT outages.

    China also have big reliance on Windows OS, the difference is they don't use Crowdstrike.

    Ok, to help you clear all these confusions about who should bear the full responsibility of this outage, let do a scientific exercise of proof. The hypothesis that many CNA 'experts' has alluded to finger pointing the full responsibility to Microsoft/CrowdStrike as the sole culprit. Therefore if we can find a company that run CrowdStrike on Windows OS but who are not adversely affected by the outage and suffers minimal to no losses to their business, then these CNA 'experts' hypothesis does not stand. This company or companies are living proof or proves that the issue does not lie entirely with Microsoft/CrowdStrike (though it is undeniable that CrowdStrike send a faulty software update).
    I understand that Singapore has not suffered any backlash from this episode. Do Singapore companies run CrowdStrike on Windows OS? Besides Singapore there are many other countries that are not affected by this outage. CrowdStrike has customers all over the world in many countries including Singapore. Why then Singapore companies not affected? Think again. Identify the right cause of the problem and only then you can find the right solution to the problem. Don't be misled by the so-called 'experts'.

    This is not the first time they are deploying such updates.Such a widespread outage indicates testing was either not done or someone just screwed up.Not even phased push based on timezone or location but just a one shot update.

    A real defect or were certain parties playing out a possible scenario to gauge the effects of such and the use of other potential threats to the whole world. Or, is this the result of some parties tinkering with international undersea communication cables?

      Crowdstrike issued a patch for their customers, it is a buggy update for Windows Pc. Antivirus runs as a driver, a ring 0 process. A buggy ring 0 process can produce blue screen of death.
