I've always looked at our city now and wondered what it may have looked like before... So thank you, it gave me a great insight to its past and development.
it's crazy how the streets look full but honestly I live downtown and it always looks pretty dead. it's actually kind of sad, the traffic there looks insane to. I still love and will always love Sacramento (:
But also remember, actions were deliberately taken to remove people of color from certain areas and force them to move out. Very racist actions, in the name of renewal.
Thank you, Mr. Lango, for that post! Could you tell us how you acquired it, and how you posted it? Let me assure you, I'm not the TH-cam copyright police; I'm Tom McElheney, an English teacher at Burbank High (now a little jealous of McClatchy...). I noticed that everyone was much more slender and more formally dressed; two things that make the people seem fascinating.
In the 1980s and 1990s, there were a few “top floor” restaurants and bars. John Q’s was atop the Capitol Plaza Holiday Inn. There was a bar atop the newly opened Hyatt Regency on L Street. Those are 2 I remember. Both places were classy and people dressed nice to go into these and other places. Now when you go to nice restaurants, the crowd can be dressed a little too casual. For example, if someone is going to dinner at The Firehouse in Old Sacramento, don’t wear shorts and beach shoes, regardless of the season.
This is how I remember Sacramento as a kid going to Sacramento it sure has changed Never seen homeless except maby hobo camp down by the rivers Sacramento has seen better days
Imagine going back in time and living as one of these people then next day ur back to ur time of life then next day ur in someone else's in the past lol
Only for racist white folks mostly... I own a bunch of real estate property and don’t work unless I get bored of fishing or skiing. A huge improvement from my grandma. All she ever did was lose all her worldly possessions and was forced into a concentration camp. Karma is a bitch.
@@jamesdaneke I do sometimes, it's fine. I assume you're referring to the homeless encampments? I understand those are so scary for Republicans to see. I think Republicans get attacked by the homeless every day. Fortunately as a Democrat I never get attacked.
+Ben T I see no racism in his/her comment. Just a pragmatic, minimally observant person that knows full well minorities and the deceitful media and anti-America body politic that supports and nurtures them, while they deconstruct the greatest and most freedom and prosperity-giving nation on Earth, will inevitably one day have to answer and atone for their misdeeds. Mandatory labor for shiftless, welfare-sucking millions sounds fair to me.
harold land Your names harold so I’m guessing ur a white male Over 50.. so I already expect ur mind to be clouded by traditional white supremaced culture. It was only 150 years ago when blacks were in chains and only around 60 years ago where racism was the norm. But things are changing :) you failed to recognize that the negative treatment has worked against you and made minorities stronger. Stronger to the point that now you are forced to sit down and shut up... this leaves u with a bitter feeling in which u take out in the TH-cam comments. It really sucks there are ignorant old people that can’t let it go, but ur old so it’s all good
+Ben T Hey, no offense but, even if he *is* white and "old", lol, something tells me that a man(?) of that awareness and intelligence, will probably outlive and outachieve the likes of you. You realize that the average lifespan of black males in the U.S.(due to drugs/violence/prison medical care), is less than 70, right? Hispanics trend just slighty higher than that. The rest of your post is nothing but SJW/BLM drivel. Blacks in the U.S. need to stop worrying about whites and start getting their collective acts together and that is an immutable fact that will *never* be overturned. But please, continue on in your ignorance. In truth, *your* own ignorance and attitude towards life, is *exactly* what makes *true* white supremacists(of which I'm *not* one, btw), very happy. Because it's a textbook formula to keep blacks underachieving for the next 100+ years. Age and generation have nothing to do with anything, sir. Right is right and wrong is wrong, regardless of what the calendar says. If you had a lick of sense, instead of silly SJW/BLM platitudes in your rhetoric, you would know that.
Fascinating to see a snapshot of life in Sac back then. A lot of what I love about it now applied then and glad a lot has been preserved.

The "very gay crowd" from that 1950 night club scene is different from the gay crowd of 2018.
Michael Harris faces night club😂
John Deer

I wrote a poem in 2nd grade using the the word "gay" but wouldn't have the same connotation today.
OMG! Truth! But gays were around then, too. Just in the closet.
Dammit, you beat me to it!!! 🤣😭😂
great clips you've assembled here. i'm turning into a bit of a sacto history junkie.
Same.
i like the modesty of the people then..
Not as modest as you think. Floozies were alive and well - showing lots of skin! short shorts.
It's a shame what urban renewal did to the city...
Everyone moved to the suburbs and downtown decayed badly. It really needed renewal to pump money in.
But also remember, actions were deliberately taken to remove people of color from certain areas and force them to move out. Very racist actions, in the name of renewal.
@@kalidescopemind1 The point of urban renewal was to destroy the city via highways, parking garages, and suburbanization. It just about succeeded.
