Sticks in gardening gloves, red ants in the compost pile, spiders in the shed falling on her head - All things that are annoying for Emma, but comedy gold for us viewers. 😂

Have to share as I know you get the excitement 😊, I have only one tomato plant in my green house I've tended to Tommy (tomato) 😂 like the king he is he's been pruned, talking to and loved tapping flowers to pollinate you😅 know the love story😂 . Tonight I tapped a flower and it fell off in shock I thought.....noooo Tommy don't tell me I've tapped too much and bruised your ego 😢 .
Alas I dropped my head in disappointed gutted till I looked up to find two tiny green Perl's of green 🥹😲 Emma I nearly peed my pants 😂❤❤ Go Tommy, go Tommy 🙌🙌 my little legend 🎉 😊😊

Our allotment sites rules is any path that borders your plot is down to you to maintain regardless of it being communal or not. I just use shears to keep it down and stick all the clippings in the compost, as it does make fab compost xxx

Emma, if he is not cleaning up after his apple tree, and you are, help yourself to all apples you'd like that are hanging over your plot or the shared path. hope they taste lovely!

Our Tom's at home have just started to ripen. So much rain this season. 😫 our allotment site is also responsibilty of us to keep the sides of your plot clear. Invested in a battery operated mower, its had its uses.

As you take your gloves off pull them inside out and then if the spiders etc get inside you will in fact you'll be pushing them out as you put them on and less likely to touch it

I would put some plastic sheeting/weed fabric/loads of empty compost bags/dust sheets over all the weeds on that path which hasn’t been weeded. Hold it all down with bricks. After a few weeks all the weeds will be dead

Back in May when we had that flash of Summer, I had at least 2 ant nests, they made it into my new compost bin (first time ever composting), and their eggs were absolutely everywhere . Once I added some green material and/or with the cooled weather, the ants disappeared, I'm thinking died, and they left behind a beautifully textured compost, like it had been through a sieve. Makes your skin crawl to see them, but they do good work in the compost in.

I have brown ants everywhere, luckily their bite is not as bad as red but it still hurts, I use afterbite, get it from superdrug type shops, its in a white tube, its a game changer on bug bites.

Emma I grow lavender and hang bunches in the shed. Also I make lavender sachets and have one under my pillow in bed. I also spray my skirting boards with peppermint oil. Spiders do not like either.

    For the ants try this:
    In a 1gal bucket
One glub of orange oil concentrate (Amazon)
Two good squeezes of blue dawn dishsoap
Fill bucket with water and mix
Pour over the ant hill. This will effectively kill them without harming your veggie plants. BUT be judicious as this will also kill any other invertebrates in the soil. So pour just in the hill.

Ants are probably best in the compost heap as they won’t disturb the plants there. Ants are important in the garden, they help citron pests and keep them in check
My poor sprouts - which were supposed to be cabbage white proof ..... no one told the cabbage white! 😂. Think I’ll have to admit defeat on those, they were doing so well too!

My tomatoes took ages to go red but once they went red theres no stopping them. Also if you top them off the energy goes into ripening the fruit rather than flowering anymore.

My whole plot has red ants nests, it’s ant city! It’s always been like it 😬
I’ve just tried the orange oil ( I made it myself) with dish soap mixture, I poured it into a couple of ants nest yesterday so I’m hoping it helps🤞🏻🤞🏻
Still love watching all your vlogs, always keep motivated to get on with my plot and make me giggle 😊

i tried a late sowing of peas this year (i think it was some time in june) but i didn't have much luck with them, despite the cool/wet weather we've had. i could be totally wrong about this, but i will explain my theory for why peas only survive when sown early in the season. i have noticed that what ultimately kills my peas is fusarium wilt. from observing the plants, i get the sense that they would keep going until the first frost if not for that. it seems that verticillium wilt effectively permeates the entire soil/air so it cannot be protected against. it must get knocked into some kind of dormant phase in the winter, and only returns in the summer once the temperature/light reaches a certain level. this is around june/july when your pea plants are all dying off. therefore, if you try to sow peas later than this, the verticillium wilt is already in full force and kills/stunts them before they can produce any meaningful amount of fruit. the solution solution is to wait until after winter to sow them early again before the fusarium wilt wakes up. just my theory on the matter and could be wrong, would be happy to hear any replies from people who have successfully grown peas in the autumn

I was told that it’s the heat that ripens tomatoes, not necessarily the sun. Also, how are your February sown parsnips doing, cause I sowed mine at the same time? 👍🏻🤙🏻

Sprinkle some diatomaceous earth on your compost bin every week until the ants are gone. It won't hurt the compost.

Don’t talk to me about council workers or their subcontractors!! We have a job number from our council to clear the first 3 metres of an oak tree from ivy and remove the lower branches, cut the verge (now 3feet tall) and remove a dead shrub …..their land remember outside our house. Today, arrived home they were parked across my driveway and moved their van with no comment or apology. I went through what the job was and they said they only do trees and were only doing the oak which they did to head height. So another long protracted time wasted contacting the council again. Rant over!!

Great video, Emma! My girlfriend had a spider in her shoes, so her outdoor shoes, she steps and steps and steps on them and squishes anything inside and then puts them on you could do the same for your gloves, step and squish anything and then put them on. Here we don’t like the white fly too much because they kill the plant, you could spray some neem oil on them and then do the yellow card with Vaseline that another commentor said it’ll stop there Egg laying yummy. If they’re good you can make some lovely apple butter. If you want a recipe I can send you one delicious on scones.
