I realised there was NOTHING I could do to please him and my parents were my whole world, my late mum especially was my best friend as well as my mum. I couldn't imagine basically being responsible for something terrible happening to them if I stayed with him. So I broke up with him.....it was bad for a while. He wouldn't take no for an answer and my parents didn't know what he'd been doing as I always explained things away (and he was careful to only bruise or cut me where it would be hidden by clothes, and of course there were other ways to hurt me....so many.) So to see women like this it breaks my heart......

Unfortunately, I know what you mean when you had said that he made sure to hide the abuse he was inflicting on you in a multitude of ways, as well as that you deflected and played down just how the abuse was out of denial that it was really that bad, until it started, again. I don't know you, however, as a stranger who's been in similar situations, I'm very proud of you for making the difficult yet necessary decision to leave. He separsted my mom from her mom (took her to another country) and right when my mom wanted to leave and escape my mom had me and my brother so she felt stuck. I spent 5 years in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship and the level of control he has over her is scary. The fact she refuses to voice her own opinion unless she gets his first makes me feel sick to my stomach. I’m truly afraid for this woman’s wellbeing. UPDATES: she did wear lori’s pick when they got married in 2013. they’ve been married about seven years now and are still married, parenting a couple of cute kids. she glo’ed up even more, looks great and seems to be doing well
