You didn't even talk about the A1 and A2 icons at all! They are usually the most important ones to me since they indicate how well the card performs when it comes to application/OS usage or general read/write performance when you deal with a lot of small files.
Appreciate the technical knowledge you share ThioJoe especially when clearing up any confusion on the topic thus sharing what is important or useful to know about it.
I never knew this stuff about SD cards' symbols. I've always just ignored them, thinking them unimportant. I had an instructor at community college who told me that you can learn something from anyone, but ThioJoe does a lot more teaching than the average guy 😁
One thing I would mention is that SDHC and SDXC look the same but sometimes you might have a computer with a reader that does not detect SDXC only SDHC since XC came out after the reader was made.
Thank you very much for this video, this really made me understand the ratings, the written websites can never really explain this propperly, I'm also a bit dyslexic so it tires me to read those, in fact, recently if there's something in computer hardware and OS's that I don't understand I tend to search that with the word ThioJoe at the end, because likely, you have made a video about that, and it did absolutely help me. I find it funny how I use computers since the late 90s, my dad got me my first computer probably shortly after Win98 came out, I remember using his Win95 Computer before that, and I'm still learning so much, learning how OS's and tech actually works behind the scenes is so interesting.
Legendz do you play pubg, call of duty? Well i have one video that u will like! How about free kinemaster premium for your video editing? I have a video for it also!
Perfect timing for me on this ThioJoe lesson! My mind has been near meltdown breakdown just trying to find out what I need to buy for my 16gb capacity Android ZTE K88 TREK 2 HD tablet that has been my only device used for (PC computer access) because we were involved in a major flooding ordeal 8.12.16 that we lost everything house computer of 25 yrs. My iPhone 7 currently has 4000+ Pic and my Google account I just upgraded to 100GB subscription which I am on limited income now and it's an extra EXPENSE I never needed before. Flashdrives took care of storage issues before but now technology is getting overwhelming and I can't grasp everything because I'm stressed out about loosing my important info & pictures that I have because my precious memories of life b4 digital camera etc.. my son and family photos were destroyed and my dad was actually my computer guru and he passed away before the flood and I purchased myself a HP Stream 14 laptop 12/2017 and never finished attempting to set-up just pulled it back out 8 mths ago before my tablets got full and the rest is dumb blonde 😭 56yr old computer/technology illiterate dumbass trying to get education and not make matters worse 🤔😨😱. Thanks for your informative UTUBE (very underrated) in my personal opinion! Gotta alot more of your post to watch🕢8️⃣1️⃣3️⃣2️⃣0️⃣⏳▶️
It may not be the best idea to buy the biggest capacity card your camera can handle, rather 2 or 4 smaller ones. I was speaking to a professional wedding photographer and noted she used a number of quite small cards. She explained that it was a precaution, if one card got lost or was faulty she still had images on the other cards for the shoot. If she had used just one big card, a loss or a fault would have been a total disaster.
It seems a few things have changed since the last I researched this. At that time Class 10 SDXC was top of the line and a few devices (including at least one phone we had) couldn't use them. It's also not the first time I looked back into something to realize that new standards have somehow emerged without tripping my radar like Wireless AC (which I learned about a few years ago when looking for a new router and is now being replaced by AX/Wifi6) and M.2's (which I learned about when designing my new PC a couple years ago). I actually learned about USB 3.2 after I had already assembled my new machine and found out it had a couple of the ports (phew). Recently heard that DDR5 is soon to be released or may already be released. The scary part is that I actually read and watch tech news all the time.
2:07' I really like this atitude - if it's not important, don't overload the average Joe with tech jargon ! Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work :)
VERY good video. Clear explanations, to the point short examples, great structure & gradual explanation style. Keeping it good for beginners while throwing out some key words for people who want to study more or perhaps know more. Thanks!
Fantastic! Had always wondered at the Egyptian markings on the cards and never even once thought of googling it. Now all the Greek explained in plain old English😊😊
Congrats on the R5, could you make some video about it? (don't worry I won't ask about the overheating) hoping to get mine soon as well! (BTW, the moment you showed the CFexpress card I knew you are going to have or already got the R5!)
Some devices have to have an older card due to the voltages used. we have to get Sandisk edge HC 1 8GB cards for this Altera/Intel SOC processor. Strangely the newer cards work once, but then Linux fails to do a warm reboot.
ThioJoe, please make videos about features of MacOSX and Linux. You only focus on Windows. I think that you only have Windows, but investing for that having a huge TH-cam Channel isn't a bad idea. Please consider this.
I made the mistake of getting a V90 card before I realized it was rated in MB/s not Mbps so it was way faster than I needed. Lucky I was able to return it and get a V60 card which is still more than I would ever need because that V90 card was expensive. Camera does up to 400Mbps, but I usually record in 100 or 200 anyway.
i think there are devices that doesn't support SDXC because many doesn't want to be formatted in FAT32 nowadays, but NTFS of exFAT only, though there are some softwares out there that can force-format it in FAT32 still, if you REALLY need it to be formatted in FAT32 (for reasons like the device you're using the card on doesn't support NTFS or exFAT)
My computer tells me that I'm not connected to internet because no ethernet cable is connected, even though I have an ethernet cable connected and I still can access internet. Anything that is windows related does not connect to the internet, so I cannot update or open microsoft store. Do you know why this is happening?
Can you do another video on this subject that specifically addresses one SD disk and talk slower and less information? I can’t process all the rapid talk. Thanks.
At least SD cards generally speaking don't use stupid caches like thumb drives. My SanDisk thumb drive can do 70MBps for half a GB and then it's down to 20MBps. My SanDisk Extreme Micro-SD has 60MBps continuously - 11€ for 64GB
Hello I'm trying to download mods onto my ps3 for fallout 3 and I don't have a computer. Do you think that you can find a way to download mods onto the console with my phone. P.S it is an android.
Those little symbols mean stuff. A.K.A buzz words. Only ratings I worry that is the storage capacity. Since the only things I use SD cards for is storage expansion on my android devices and my DosBox all in one SD card.
Hmm... Okay, I guess. SD card is quite confusing as they became more and more sophisticated. I mean, I can't blame them because technology evolved too fast for us to catch up, but still, they need to like make this information available to the public instead of letting the public scratching their head and wonder what that symbol really mean.
Oh god, thank you so much, I mean, my wallet can't say the same thing now.. £200(ish) for a properly good SD card, i shoot pictures with the Canon Eos 90d, and I do a lot of continuous shooting, I only got a crappy little 128gb 100MB read speed card for £30 but it struggles with the continuous shooting as I take a lot of pictures of birds 🐦 and it takes like 20 seconds to process 10 pictures.
I actually still have a working 16 MB sd card :)
Hell yeah!
I acctually found a 512kb SD-Card!! But it's not working anymore... 😞
@@M.4.R.V. I had a similar one before, but unfortunately it's not working now as well
I have a working 56 kb sd card

Thank you for the information. Looking for something to use with a go-pro knockoff and trail cams. Helps simplify things.
Thanks its very useful video
great video... very useful and decluttering
Joe, do these codes and ratings also apply to microSD cards? Thank you for your help and for your great videos.
microSD cards are SD cards, so yes

Now please explain those hieroglyphic symbols we see on laptop charger.
They mean double insulated, recyclable, hazardous waste, and the logos of the safety standards the charger complies with.
It's so confusing already, but they keep adding symbols.
