Ryan Vikedal left Nickelback in January 2005 after a royalty dispute with the band. According to reports, the band had already decided Vikedal needed to go by December 2004. Chad Kroeger, the band’s lead vocalist, filed a lawsuit against Vikedal in November 2005, claiming that Vikedal forfeited his right to future royalties when he left the band. The band stated that Vikedal’s heart was no longer in their music, while Vikedal reported that he had been asked to leave by the group on January 3, 2005.
