We have to appreciate how this generation of players have elongated their top-level careers into their mid-30s. Messi, Suarez, Benzema, Modric, CR7, Zlatan, Giroud, etc - have forever changed views on football professionalism.
That is due to advanced sports science, better diet, better physios, better training plan and what not. Almost in every sport players' career are getting longer and consistent. 33 is now the new 28. 20-30 years down the line footballers would be playing till their mid 40s.
dont forget the stricter foul rules as a part of the lengthened careers. Look at van Basten who retired early partially due to being kicked to absolute bits in the serie A
Nice concept, here in Portugal, José Fonte and Pepe, are examples, Pepe is now at forty showing some signs of regression, but at 38 he was still flirting with peak performances at Porto
Pepe won his first CL and the euros after turning 30 as well. But idk if he got better with age, he was always brilliant, but one thing he did get was less dirty. He was still a master of the dark arts though 😂
I don´t if Emiliano Martinez really fits the idea of te video, but in the last three years he went from an unknown sub keeper at Arsenal to a World Cup winner and national hero of Argentina.
Jamie Vardy only turned professional when he was 25 and had been playing non league and lower league football prior to winning promotion with Leicester City in 2014 and it was only in his 2nd season of EPL football that he rose to prominence when he was among the main contributers to Leicester's surprise title win at which point he was almost 30 years old before that few would have recognised his name
Good shout-outs for this list would be both Werder Bremen strikers Niklas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch whom both have hit double figures this season and Füllkrug even winning the golden boot EDIT: I see you have included Füllkrug
As a Barca fan, signing Ilkay Gundogan on a free is basically the only thing I'm excited about for the future, considering it looks like the hammer is about to fall hard for the officiating scandal.
Alfie you should really consider doing a video on the Bosnian men's national team, from being ranked 13 in the world in 2014 and qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil, to not qualifying for a single tournament since, yet managing to win their uefa nation leagues group, but genuinely hitting our lowest point with a 2-0 defeat to Luxembourg. Aging players, players who represent other national teams that are eligible to play for Bosnia but aren't seeming interested, just the genuine geopolitical mess that Bosnia is with how the Dayton agreement was meant to simply end the Bosnian war yet became the country's de facto constitution. I think it would make for a very interesting video, and could even span additional videos like how Velez Mostar are forced to play away from their original stadium in Mostar as it is on the Croatian side of the river, with their old stadium being taken over by Zrinjski Mostar. A club that was actually banned in Yugoslavia because of their nationalistic origin

Calmness, the ability to dribble through, the progressive runs and the defending when we most needed it was just unreal! I might be slightly biased because I consider that his contributions to both country and, especially during the last two years, for club football has actually increased, but Giroud's game hasn't stayed flat, but actually improved since 2016, when he turned 30. France wouldn't have won the 2018 world cup or reached the 2022 world cup final without his selfless contribution to the team's attacking play, and Milan wouldn't have won the 2022 scudetto without his brilliant linkups with Leao. The 2022-2023 season was actually his most prolific since 2016. Sure, his physical prowess has decreased somewhat as he's aged, but his overall game has kept on improving as he's perfected his off-the ball game, both during buildup play and as a poacher.
Damn i didn’t except an Amahl Pellegrino shoutout, but i am happy it happened. He, probably should’ve made some better career moves or gotten a better agent, but is consistently class, wish he would have tried himself in France or the netherlands like most up and coming norwegians, perhaps he peaked too late.
That goal he scored in the second game of the season, I think it was, was amazing. The nonchalance to bring the ball down, then on the half volley, curve it perfectly into the far top corner.

I'm a bit bias as a Newcastle fan but I think Kieran Trippier has to be in this list. Solid player for Burnley < Squad player for Spurs < key cog for England < winning the league with Atletico < being one of the best Right Backs in Europe in 22-23
Joselu for me, almost unheard of a footballer getting into his mid 30s getting called up to the national team. To be fair Spain tends to be one of the more meritocratic national teams and they usually get selected on form hence why there a lot of one cap, two cap wonder Spanish footballers. His story is similar to Aduriz who played at Euro 2016 age 35.
As a Newcastle fan, I can recall Joselu not even making the bench in the final few months of his second and final year at SJP. Him now being at Real Madrid is quite the puzzling turn of events. Bet if we draw Los Blancos in the Champions League he'll score against us

If you’re having Ream then the omission of Lewis Dunk seems a bit egregious. From a player who was seen as a one-dimensional (yet solid) CB he had the MOST Passes and Touches in the ENTIRE Premier League last season. Led the team to their highest ever finish and first qualification for European football. Received only his second England call-up recently. All at the age of 31.
He’s always been good for Brighton but he’s had to adapt as we got better and climbed the divisions. Dunk made every step (some quicker than others) and upped his game each time - so as he’s got older, he’s got better - culminating in this season where he was the lynchpin of our defense once again but also had more passes/touches than Rodri for goodness sake. Its not like when he was 24 and played 6 games in the Championship teams were beating the door down for him. And if he’s that good - why 1 solitary England cap? Finally at Age 31 he has forced his way into the squad through his outstanding performances. Southgate would be an absolute clown to leave him out.
Dunk has always been rated. Ream used to be so bad in a USMNT shirt Puerto Rico abused him. What deal at the Crossroads Tim Ream made to find his game at an age players retire still escapes me.
