I love it when you get Rambling! You seem so naturally in your element, so comfortable with your surroundings and confident! Your videos are the best, Clayton. Great work on another one!
Me and the family were fishing the Cranberry lakes in early July. I had no idea that neighboring Rocky Lake has smallmouth bass! We are booked at Viking lodge again, late June, next year so we will have to make a day trip to Rocky and try this out ! Thanks for another great video, Clay!
"I talk when I'm happy" fantastic video. Just absolutely binging content. This is a fantastic video, new fish, learning, different techniques, really good video. So good
Love me some Maine smallies. Be careful unhooking them, they save a lot of energy for when you hold them, been stuck many times haha!! Caught my PB through the ice this year, 21 inches!
Clayton. Love the channel!! Love your enthusiasm for catching anything!! It’s awesome when fishermen are excited about catching crappies, small mouth, gills carp, catfish, whatever. Pick a species and going after it with the right rod/reel & baits. What a great time!! Rule of thumb - big lakes - fish the shorelines wind blowing into or points wind blowing across. FIsh main points with stable weather - fish inside turns with a cold front.
Smallmouth have become my favorite fish to target! Last year I was staying at a resort here in Wisconsin with my parents and my dad asked why I wanted to target smallmouth when there were a lot of largemouth right near the resort's docks. Once he landed one he remembered why! The fight of those fish is so much stronger than a largemouth!
When you come back Clay, you’ll get your Manitoba Master, nvm 18”, it’ll be 20”+. I’m calling it now. I fished smallies the first time ever in Rocky last year, so much fun to catch.
2 great things combined again! Smallie Fishing and a CSO 30+ min video! Great job on the content. Way to slay em. You made it look like you knew what you were doing!
Love Rocky lake. Grew up ice fishing there in the 80's. Back then there were no Smallmouth in Rocky. You had to go into Two Loon lake to catch Smallmouth. We only fished for Walleye on Rocky.
Was really hoping for that hog laker video on the 3 way swivel. That intro made up for it though. Blows me away that you boat flip hog walleye and pike but net 15" bass while giggling. Another great video, keep em coming
Nice. We have lots of smallies and large mouth here in wi. But the smallies are less common. Its fun to fish them, and I didn't realize they were that far north. And wonderful video.
My American ears bled hearing a native Canadian say "I should fish for small mouth more, this is fun!" Haha so jealous of that prime real estate you have!
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors Any time I've gone up north (i'm in the midwest USA) most guys don't care about smallmouth at all, it's exclusively for walleye and muskies up there. I think that's insane, smallmouth are SO fun!
I always wanted to try Rocky, just to say I've caught smallmouth north of 54. I'll get my chances because my wife is from The Pas and I visit often. Here where I live in NW Ontario smallies are almost a nuisance, hard to catch anything but a bass. Cool video!
another epic video! iv never fished for bass cause I live in saskatchewan and iv never got the chance but it sure looks like a blast! iv been re watching all your ice fishing videos, its getting me jacked for ice fishing haha, still a little ways away.
Fish them like lake trout. Sharp shoot them. Find bait pods and fish the thermocline. My go to is a 1/8oz ball jig and match the hatch. I like to drift thru bait pods with a 10 ft ultralight noodle stick and 3000 series reel wrapped in 8lb. I also recommend catching river smallies.
I commented on one of your vids asking if the lucky strike half wave was any good, and you told me to buy the big one so I got one and caught a mid 30’s fish!
Just moved close to a popular River in Wi called Wolf River. More know for the walley run but my first time out I managed a few smallies on texas rigged plastics. So excited to have access to water 5 mins from my door!!! Have to admit one thing that amazes me about your videos is how confident your are unhooking pike with no net. I'm terrified to grab pike with cranks in there mouth. I wont do it. Hahahah
I have 18 years of guiding Pike experience, and out of all the species I fish for I have the most confidence in dealing with them. Quick hands is the key :) I have been hooked 4 times in 18 years so it does happen to everyone :) (oh 2 of the 4 times were in the first 2 hours of guiding Pike) :)
Awesome vdeo Clayton! I just had a simiilar day like that up in Oregon yesterday. I love catchin' samllies. so much fun. Hey I'd live to send you a Chicken Fried Fishin' Hat. Please let me know if interested.
I was fishing a 8 inch line threw for Muskie and I caught a 10 inch smallmouth that went for the bait and got the back treble in the mouth and i was like dam what are you thinking it sometimes makes me wonder ho manny smallmouth die because they ate too big of a meal and choked on it
Awesome video Clayton. I luv fishing that lake and funny enough I’ve actually done better on that lake using the fly opposed to conventional tackle. It’d be great to see a video of you smashing bass on the fly !!!
I used to be anal about my tag ends too. Until I realized that if they don’t care about the line, the tag doesn’t matter lol. And if you leave about an inch tag and curl it back it acts as a debris guard for your knot. I love smallies and was stoked to see you out enjoying may current favorite fish lol
Have you had any issues with it? I just got one this year. I was at Wekusko last week. Pulled it up from being anchored and I think the cable was not winding properly on the spool. Couple of more times up and down and it corrected itself.....hopefully
I love it when you get Rambling! You seem so naturally in your element, so comfortable with your surroundings and confident! Your videos are the best, Clayton. Great work on another one!
Cheers man!! Thank you for the kind words!
Hands down best fishing show on TH-cam along side the best host 🍻🎣🏞️
Appreciate the kind words!

Iove that exact place!! So many master anglers in one day. A 10 minute boat ride from that ramp and fish after fish can be had!
"I talk when I'm happy" fantastic video. Just absolutely binging content. This is a fantastic video, new fish, learning, different techniques, really good video.
So good

Funny, because I edited out a part where I said, I have a feeling I am going to get hooked today... I didn't, but I could see it coming for sure....
Clay thank you for the small mouth surprise!!! Nice!!
You bet! Cheers!

Some great tips there!! Thank you! Cheers!
Nice change of pace Clayton. Gotta love the North. Looks like a fun lake to fish.
The North is so amazing!

I was starting to figure out a few things... It was fun looking for them :)
Thank you for sharing this! 🐶🐶🐕🐾👋
Thank you for watching!!

Such a gorgeous lake. I hear the story about how the Bass really took off in that lake. Crazy!
Great fishing videos.

HAH! I hear ya... It goes to show the difference when you are comfortable in a situation compared to not comfortable...
Nice. We have lots of smallies and large mouth here in wi. But the smallies are less common. Its fun to fish them, and I didn't realize they were that far north. And wonderful video.
I had a pile of fun with them!!
Can't wait to get on Rocky Lake this fall! Timely video Clayton, thanks for the recon info 😁👍🎣
Amazing! Enjoy!
Holy Crap! Clayton using a baitcaster!
haha... You didn't think I could?
Fishiest, love it.
This man catches master angler lakers, pike and walleye and gets all excited over a smallie
HAH... Ya I am bad for that lol
You are exactly right! New lake and the first thing I say is 'where do I start?'
haha! Me too!
I love fishing new lakes. When I do it I never give myself enough time. I would stay for 3 days if possible to get a good grasp on it
Still on my bucket list to catch, look so fun!
So much fun!
My American ears bled hearing a native Canadian say "I should fish for small mouth more, this is fun!" Haha so jealous of that prime real estate you have!
HAH! We do have some gorgeous waters!!

It was such a fun lake! Highly recommend!
Always nice when you can hit a new lake and figure something out and now I wanna go scrap with smallies... after pike though
Sure it fun to figure it out!
Great video man! One of my favorite fish to target. Pound for pound, one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish out there.
Thanks buddy!! I agree very much!
another epic video! iv never fished for bass cause I live in saskatchewan and iv never got the chance but it sure looks like a blast! iv been re watching all your ice fishing videos, its getting me jacked for ice fishing haha, still a little ways away.
Ice fishing is not too far away!!

Great idea!
Amazing as always CSO!!!!
Thank you for watching!
I commented on one of your vids asking if the lucky strike half wave was any good, and you told me to buy the big one so I got one and caught a mid 30’s fish!
Right on!! Congrats!!
The most aggressive fight around here especially beside the boat lol
YES!!

I will look and try to remember to get back to you :)
Amazing Clayton

Oh man would that ever be fun!!
Great video you should try a slip bobber and a night crawler I went out the other day and caught 8
I bet a night-crawler would have caught a lot of fish... I really wanted to do it with artificial baits :) Cheers!
Cheers
If your in roblin any time
soon maybe we can meet at goose lake and do some trout fishing one evening
Smashing out the vids
You know it!
I used to be anal about my tag ends too. Until I realized that if they don’t care about the line, the tag doesn’t matter lol. Was a super fun day! I think like you said tag ends really depend on the fish :)
Another good video!
Cheers man! Thank you as always!!
Drop shot a berkley maxscent is my go to
Drop Shot would have been a great bait too!
Want some big smallies Come to Lake Simcoe fish with seabass outdoors
Pretty far to drive :)
No Talon? 🤷♂️
Took it off for this last trip. :)
Have you had any issues with it? I just got one this year. I was at Wekusko last week. Pulled it up from being anchored and I think the cable was not winding properly on the spool. Couple of more times up and down and it corrected itself.....hopefully
Victor Eiriksson I’ve only ever had one issue with it but that was after 4 years of extreme use.... was an easy fix too.
Ok, good to know 👍 thanks
my uncle lives on Rocky lake manitoba
Such a beautiful place!
Old family camp there that used to be a school house. Really enjoy your videos :) I've been getting skunked or near skunked lately. damn warm water!
Ah yes the elusive 29-in smallmouth, haha
HAH! :)
Have you ever watched NDYAKANGLER TH-cam channel. loves small mouth fishing.
Watch for rocks that lake is full of them and they come out of no where
I see that!! Rocky Lake! :)
Clay I need to know: do you believe in Bigfoot and have you ever had any experiences with something like that?
HAH!! I can't say I do... But I am not going to judge anyone that does :)
Clayton Schick Outdoors fair enough
