    My observations from this video:
    1. Look for every other detail that you can possibly find like Sherlock Holmes
    2. Steve Lawson's personal example to find 40 observations from Acts 1:8, where he struggled after 10 !
    3. There were things that were not apparent, where you will have to read the text more than 2-3 times.
    4. You cannot interpret what you cannot observe and you cannot apply what you cannot observe.
    5. To be profound preacher, you'll need to be observant and go down into depths.
6.Your observations can be categorised into two groups:
    a. Macro - Big picture ( who is the author, who is the audience, why did he write, where was he when he wrote this, what is the big idea, where does this passage fall into, what lead to the passage, what is preceding and succeeding to the passage in question, what is the immediate context.
    b. Micro - the granular details, now you are walking through the text and are looking at the various parts of the text. Don't believe devil is in the details but rather God is in the details. Note: Major interpretations often hinge on the smaller details like a verb tense, word study, what is the cause and effect etc.

Great introduction to the work of observation of a biblical text! I can hardly wait for the full explanation. Dr. Lawson is correct to put such an emphasis on the necessity of observation to the interpretation and application of a biblical text. Deeper and richer sermons will be the result. Thank you Dr. Lawson!

You will never get a better lesson in expository preaching than from Dr. Steve Lawson. Hear them and listen and learn.

That assignment would be a nightmare for me. That’s like asking you ten best and worst qualities. I am 70 years old men’s Bible study teacher and I am wanting to be a good expositor of the word. Could you maybe post your observations to this scripture so I will have visual example to learn from. Thanks

thats all well and good but you are going to the bible from the lens of Calvinism so its not really reading the text for what it says. you bring your doctrines to the text and look for proof texts. which is bad
