Lost Paintings - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (solo piano arrangement)

- FINALLY GETTING AROUND TO DOING SOME MORE STUFF FROM MY FAVORITE GAME EVER SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT YAY (also, netflix season 3 can't come fast enough!) I know you wouldn't know it from all the Final Fantasy stuff but I love SOTN like my own child, I guess it's because there's just so many FF piano arrangements already written out there compared to Castlevania stuff that I have to write my own, and then learn the ridiculously hard darned thing I just wrote sob and record it and it all just takes so much TIME.
About the second half of my adaptation here--I stumbled across an exceedingly interesting and very beautiful piano arrangement of this theme that I had NEVER heard before. It's not in the game. It's not the redux from Harmony of Despair. As far as I know, it is not on the official OST, at least not my soundtrack CD, though I'm not ruling out it might be part of those secret tracks that play when you put the game disc in a CD player. It's possible it's a fan arrangement, but the author of the upload says they ripped it from the OST. Anyways, if anyone could shed any light on the origin/source of this piano arrangement, I'd be very grateful to give credit where credit is due, as I cannot find anything in my research. I transcribed it and used it for the repeat since I didn't want to put myself through playing my own writing again holy crap lol.
Lost Paintings, though a very beautiful theme and one of my favorites, always struck me as the black sheep of the OST because it's so different from the gothic metal/rock baroque sound of the other themes. Moreover i felt the Inverted Castle was stretched a bit thin in terms of music compared to the regular castle and the same 3-4 themes got overplayed, including this one, unfortunately. Dunno if anyone else felt the same way. It also felt incongruous with the more sinister vibe of the Inverted Castle, especially paired with Finale Toccata but I still totally loved it.

@@pedrofelix5342 demorei muito tempo pra jogar SOTN (até 2017) mas quando comecei a jogar e cheguei na biblioteca, sabia q quando os créditos rolassem eu iria ficar de olho pra saber quem era o compositor (no final compositora ausuusussh) pq musica barroca com progressão hamonica de rock é coisa de gênio... N deu outra virei fan instantâneo de tudo q a michiru faz auhsushshsh

It totally respects the original, even when you start playing around with it and doing your thing, it never runs away from the original and even takes it to new heights. Outstanding! I came here from Dance of Pales, and while I echo *everything* that everyone else has said, I wanted to touch upon one other thing. I love the way your emotion is visible as you play; it's evident that you're not just performing a piece, but you're feeling it at the same time, and the two feed into each other. This is an underrated aspect of musical performance, so I have mad respect for you.
hey I originally came for Pales as well & as a pianist in a past life, I agree with you wholeheartedly about her embodying emotion!

what makes this the best piano cover out of every other piano cover on youtube is the fact that she does the strings @ 1:15 etc.. that makes the song much more powerful than doing solely the keys.

I remember working on this piece a long time ago (maybe 10 years) and also never heard that arrangement before, and I listened to a bunch of versions of the song and looked at all the sheets I could find. It's very nice, but unfortunately I can't help you with where it's from.

hahaha thank you so much!!! and yeah it's all right! i thought I knew the SOTN OST inside and out and was shocked to come across this version. tbh my money is on a fan arrangement, since it just isn't found anywhere else, but given the quality of the recording and writing, it's strange nobody has come forward to claim ownership or that it isn't found anywhere else. it's a big mystery.
Be honestly it is outstanding and excellent arrangement I ever heard so far！Especially the accompaniment of the left hand and the assisting accompaniment of the right hand, there are often seen in Liszt's music.

I know this is late but I’m really glad you included the beginning notes. Most people just cut them out. I understand though as it’s a stressed on the fingers but still, it just doesn’t sound the same without it :) thanks!

do you have any advice for me if I just wanted to learn 1-2 songs? I've taken piano as a kid long ago but it's not really relevant anymore lol. I don't have the interest or patience to go through the ABCs for piano, but I do have the interest and will dedicate an unlimited amount of time to one song if I have to. For example, a couple songs from SOTN and depending on how that goes, perhaps a couple other video games.

Lost Painting always reminds me of the Forbidden Library in the reverse castle in SOTN
I grew up on the PS1 and my all-time favorites are Final Fantasy Tactics and Castlevania SOTN (still playing them on emulators to this day).
I love how you've covered every single one of my favorite tracks from these games.

How did you discover these Soundtracks? Did you play the game yourself? Or did you just hear the Soundtrack from somewhere and thought you need to play this on the Piano? :D Castlevania SotN is my absolute favorite game with the best Soundtracks. You should check out Bloodstained Ritual of the Night. It has the same composer as Castlevania SotN.
lol how else would I know these OSTs if I haven't played and loved the games, everything I cover on my channel is from all of my favorite games, I can't write/learn/record an arrangement of something I'm not deeply emotionally invested in. SOTN is one of my GOATs and Michiru Yamane is a queen with the work she did on this super eclectic OST. I did play Bloodstained and enjoyed it, but it just wasn't the same, though I really loved Curse of the Moon since I grew up with old school Castlevania. Bloostained 2 looks really awesome though.

This is honestly one of those themes that's close to my heart for reasons I can't explain well but I wonder how many years it's going to take me to get this good. I only just started a couple months ago.
Ha, I was JUST thinking this exact same thing. I only started a few months ago too and wish I could play nearly as well as purpleschala. I just keep telling myself that eventually, after consistent practice I'll someday be this good (trying everyday!). It's a marathon, not a sprint :)

@@LagunaLeonhart I conquer tough sections by practicing slowly with hands separate at first, focusing on accuracy and feel instead of speed. Practice in short sessions too. Work on it for a few minutes and then try again later in the day. After a few days (or weeks) you'll see improvement. Same thing with hands together - accuracy over speed. Speed will come naturally with enough practice. Overall, work on your weaknesses the most :) don't get discouraged if it takes a long time. You're literally building new pathways in your brain when you practice this stuff.

I just recently got and played Symphony of the Night, and wow... the soundtrack absolutely blew me away. But this? This arrangement pulls and plays with every bit of the emotion of the original tracks, weaving a tapestry of nostalgia from a game I only just had the pleasure of battling my way through. I am so glad this showed up in my youtube suggestions, and thank you so much for taking an already incredible piece and arranging it into an equally incredible piano piece. Bravo! :D
