I mean, I just saw a Tesla swapped powertrain in a 1959 Big Fin Cadillac go at auction. She had 3x the regular amount of batteries because of her size, so 600+ miles on one charge, and 0 to 65 in 3 seconds in a 5 ton car. Everyone here wants a FORD V8, But I think a 300 cid straight 6 would go through the air a lot better. Thanks for the hug Mook, we all needed that.
I was 16 in 1971 and learned to drive stick in a black version of that exact truck. It was the 6 cyl with three on the tree. This brings back great memories.
A 300 Ford 6, please! The late model ones with fuel injection and a 5 speed go well while sipping fuel. AND- Tom is cool! Good cheer overcomes all adversity.
I love every episode but I love that I learn something new each episode whether it's from Kevin, Tom, Angus, or Dalton keeps me coming back every time!
I have a 58. Putting a 292 in it out of a 60 grain truck. Bought when I was 18 now 44 hasn't run in 20+ years. If I have my way this is the year. Keep em coming.
My 59 had a 272. Bought a kit at NAPA to run oil from a plug in block and split to both valve trains by plugging into the hollow shaft. V notched front of the valve covers.
Hey Kevin.... another thing that works well for making interior pieces, dash panel pieces etc are truck mud flaps. They make some that one side is textured, other side is smooth... works very well.
I have a 1980 Ford f100 stepside thats my daily driver and I've been fixing her up. A ton of butchered wiring, fixed the timing, improved the carb, all learned from(and usually done while) watching your videos. I actually just made a stack for it from a flex pipe and a glass pack 👍😎
I bought one of those brand new, my first new vehicle, I was 20. 300, 4 speed. Put some 8" Western wheels on it and had it custom pinstriped by hand, it was cool!
Back a long time ago when I owned a trucking company we decided to redo the interior on a 1976 GMC Astro semi. The guy that did it used cardboard from refrigerator packaging and shower wall material.. it came out absolutely minty
As always, this was great fun to watch. 2 cents on the "shrink-wrap-foam inside cavities won't keep moisture and therefore not rust": it doesn't work. The capillary created by the gap between the shrink-wrapped foam and the body draws the water in and holds it there firmly - right next to the metal. Some French car manufacturer had already tried this in a similar form in the 70s or 80s and thus created legendary rusty cars straight from the factory. If this is to be kept rust-free in any way, the cavities must first be generously flooded with something like Fluidfilm (I'm not affiliated to them in any way). Of course, the plastic must be able to tolerate the fat introduced to the cavities.
Fluid Film is a fantastic product. I treat the underside of my cars yearly with it and I've yet to see any new rust. I really like the smell of Fluid Film too😂
That is one of the most beautiful F-100 Truck designs I've ever seen. I would modernize the suspension, and swap the engine, but that's pretty much it.
I bet it has low fuel pressure. Probly a bad pump or regulator. Heat soak causes the fuel in the rail to vaporize, injecting gas gas is no good. Check fuel pressure under all normal conditions. Normal to sligntly low when running, drops when key off. Or after parking hot, and fails a single restart, vent the test port. Should start fast, then. For hard start cold, try leaving the key on for awhile, without cranking, to build fuel pressure.
Australian tip slow down Wind and Dust entry: first clean quarter vent glass, apply thinly petroleum jelly like vaseline on glass ONLY TO STOP adhesion. Now on rubber weatherstrip apply thinly silastic and close quarter vent. For doors first clean rubber weatherstrip and clean the painted contact surface, apply thinly petroleum jelly like vaseline on painted surface ONLY TO STOP adhesion. Now on rubber weatherstrip apply thinly silastic RTV, CLOSE DOOR LEAVE A FEW HOURS TO CURE.
I'm an actual audio engineer. What you did is not far off of some spaces I have treated. Yes I have completed very expensive spaces where they can afford the world class products. But I have also done some smaller studios where they just needed to deaden the vocal booth and prevent noise ingress on a budget. Granted we are dealing with mostly wooden structure but the process is mostly the same. Good work guys!

As a fellow Fridge(side) owner”1960” I know the pain all too well of the interior noise and everything echoing due to lack of anything creature comfort wise in these trucks. I do like your 59 and I hope in the future you fix the blight that’s under the hood.
I had a 1996 Chevy Tahoe with a 4.3 Vortec engine that done the same thing. I took it to the dealer to fix it, Come to find out it had low fuel pressure. They put a new fuel filter and fuel pump in it. Keep up the good video's man, Nice truck..
I love these old trucks. I have a 1960 f250 4x4. Its kind of a rare bird. It's been in the family for a long time. It's been passed down from my grandpa to my dad then to me. My dad shot at it with a bb gun when he was 5. Lol that would have been in 1969. She still starts right up but the needs a lot of work. I hope to get it back on the road soon. They are just to cool.
I love that Tom referenced the song classified when we find the truck for the first time that was low-key kind of funny because I thought I was one of the very few people who knew about that song so shout out to Tom 6:37
Coming from car audio the dyno mat sound dampening material isn't technically intended to reduce sound directly. The purpose is to reduce vibration which in turn has the effect of reducing resonance. That's why strips work pretty well, its just mass the absorb vibration.
If the "rugs are secured at the seams you can lessen them by using a carpet comb to blend the edges together and hide the seam points the way they do in a house ( they use heat activated tape on the back side of the carpet to hold the seams together then comb the visble seam away.
Hey man I had to say that after watching all these years watching you hammer away with a pair of slip knot pliers I finally found a vintage 1930's pair I got from an old woman doing a swap out. I work in HVAC and like you those damn things come in handy when in a pinch! Keep trucking on friend, love the content as always!
Its incredible how well the draft works. My 2nd year racing karts i had purchased a kart that put me 50lbs overweight. As long as the guys were keeping a clean line I could draft no problem
Thank you Kevin and mook y'all are the only ones I look forward to seeing, so much fun to watch and we all learn stuff from it. Love you guys keep it up!!!!😊 And question what ever happened to the red dodge roll back are you guys still going to put the 12 valve in it?
Heat shrinking that foam just completely negates the reason that your trying to use it. The foam material absorbs/ disperses the sound waves through the “pockets” throughout the dense foam. Wrapping it will stop it from working; the sound waves will now just bounce off the heat shrink the same as they would bounce around inside the door/panel without the foam. You MIGHT see some differences, but just because your filling the space so less room for the sound to bounce around ( basically the same as if you just stuffed literally anything else in the hole), but the Benefits of using the foam are negated.
Thank you for everything you do I look forward to seeing your videos every week with you and thunderhead 289 as well add vise grip garage I learned so much from you 3 I know you hear this a lot but thank you so much and keep on making these videos
To see the previous owner, and his comment here is so awesome. It helps that billboard size brick, painted refrigerator white, build awesome character! As for the 3 slow 5 tuned port f.i., it brought me back to the late '90's when I had to trade my 1970 Malibu (because the 350 puked) for a 1987 Trans Am GTA, with the 5.7 Tuned Port Fuel Injection. It's truly fortunate for you 😂, that you couldn't hear me screaming at my phone whilst watching 😂. I went through the EXACTLY SAME THING and it was to the point I truly loved the GTA, but was contemplating burning it to the ground. I installed a "hyper chip" hoping to cure the problem. Nope. Inline fuel filter. Nope. Finally figured out that the fuel pump was weak; didn't quite have enough umpf to start the car; hence using starter fluid, continuously spraying, until the fuel pump can catch up. I priced out the cost of a new fuel pump, and the horrific job to change it, because it's in the tank, and opted for a Carb. swap. This entails purchasing the correct intake, because the angle of the intake runners on the TPI heads are at a different angle than the previous generation with carburetors. I also had to buy a clickity-clacker fuel pump, because there was no provision in the block for a mechanical fuel pump. I also had to buy an adjustable fuel regulator to reduce the pressure down to 7psi for the carburetor. I was stuck with the pump they had in store. I did miss the TPI, because of it's instant throttle response compared to the carburetor, but I am an old fashioned dude who prefers carbs. To me, the less electronic garbage that ALWAYS ends up with issues of some kind, the better. I liked the Bosch fuel injection system in the 1980 Rabbit I had. Simple and never had any issues. I sold that Rabbit (still running and driving) with 504,000 miles on it! Kevin, BEFORE YOU RIP OFF THE TPI, check the fuel line pressure, out of curiosity; and no, don't kill the cat!!😂😂 I know it's supposed to be between 41-47 Psi, but from experience I had a hard time starting at 42psi. Thanks! Looking forward to seeing the next video! 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I used speaker box fabric when I redid the head liner on my 89 Pontiac 6000 LE. I was blown away at how good it looked. I used it to recover the original headliner form after removing the old fabric off of it.
Hey now, there's plenty of good fuel injection setups! TPI isn't one of them though, especially when hacked together and missing half the sensors like this one is. A carburetor is definitely the way to go unless you feel like shelling out the cash for a Holley Sniper though.
Now please be sure and keep us in the loop on changing that over to a carburetor. It will be fun to watch just what has to be changed and just how challenging it will be.
Super cool to see you stop in Menomonie! I've been going to Stout for 3 years and watching you for at least five. Excited to go to Chetek next year since I will be 21 then 😅
Truck is very cool, don't see many of the Ford Frigidaire's in my neck of the woods. Many years ago, (and I mean many) I was having similar hard start problem with my 56 F-100. I had bought it as a running 390-C6 combo, but it needed some work. I spent 2 summers finishing it, and it was a good runner in my senior year. Then it started. The truck, intermittently, wouldn't re-fire after anything longer than a gas station stop. Acted just like that TPI deal but was a carbed FE with a 650 Holley on it. Overnight it was fine. Drive me nuts for over a month. I was solo and learning, and finally found it. The ignition switch had an intermittent short in it, it would engage the starter, but when you release the key to the run position, it would kill all the power to everything connected to the engine. New ignition switch, problem solved. I doubt this was your issue, but I thought I would share it for others to learn from.
Really like the Pole Barn Garage reference....JYD & PBG are my 2 favorite car channels. Also, thanks for pronouncing Chetek the right way....lots of peeps think like the CH is Choo choo.
I loathe doing interior work so instead on my 65 GMC I shot the ceiling and back wall plus the whole floor in rubberized undercoating because it can be painted. I shot 4 gallons on the interior and and another two gallons on the roof and back wall sprayed it thinner outside. It looks fantastic and gives the paint a mottled look with candies and pearl.
I like the mindset about using similar materials instead of specific "automotive" stuff. My roommate has reptiles and has encountered the same thing, where the specific "reptile" branded stuff is much more expensive than the identical non-reptile stuff.
I would love to see more injection stuff on the channel, mainly because carbo stuff is waaay too easy for you guys. It was actually a breath of fresh air that you couldn't fix it in 5 sec. flat. and it is alot more relatable for us EU guys, since pretty much anything you find here is fuel injected. Love your channel and the crew!
I'm from the UK near London.ive been watching kevin and mòokes Chanel and episodes for years now I can remember the stretch limo they did. But got to say loving the work and rescue your doing on this truck it deserves it keep up the good work, Please keep bringing this great content out for us to watch and thank you for keeping me entertained 😊
I remember a Ford Mondeo wagon my sister bought. The previous owner had put a bunch of roofing felt and roofing bitumen under the floor mat material. It rotted the floor through, but it did quiet the car down. The amount of water trapped in the material was just insane!
fun fact my ex gfs dad threw me into the bridge in wabasha when we were out tubing on her boat 😂 used to have a ton of fun out on that portion of the river
Just a suggestion how about finding a sound suppressing material for under the hood and making sure it’s heat resistant material to stop the tin sound!
Hey Kevin, I noticed the tach was not jumping while you were cranking. I had an old 88 K2500 that had that issue. I jumped the fuel relay system and it fixed the problem. I ended up setting up my own 30 amp relay switched on and off by key and hot in crank as well. Have fun with that Fortriac Or Forloret lol
Would love the see you finish the work on this Truck by getting it to run properly and dial in the sound/wind issues. Would be cool to see you update springs, shocks, front end, rear end to make better on the highway.
Upon initial opening of the hood and seeing the TPI, I thought, "oh shxx, this ain't gonna end well!" What a pos they are, but then again.... you got home w/o a tow truck! Wish the winter weather wudda come thru and made for a better snowmobile outing, but it looked quite fun anyway! Fun video, brother....an hour well-spent! A+++++

I dunno man, I've seen a few LS swaps hacked together with truck computers, and half the sensors unhooked that were way too good.
@@ryurc3033 the key there is that it's an LS, not a finicky TPI system from the '80s. Modern systems are much less temperamental
Girlfriend broke up with me an hour ago… this upload immediately made me happier
Good riddance, she did you a favor. there’s about 3.5 million of them to pick from. Hit the gym and keep your head up! 💪
Now please be sure and keep us in the loop on changing that over to a carburetor. It will be fun to watch just what has to be changed and just how challenging it will be.
I get you're from Iowa, as am I, but don't put ranch dressing on steak. Hard pass.
Another Iowan here, damn straight. Ranch belongs on salad, fries, burgers, chicken strips, wings, sometimes pizza, but sure as hell not fucking steak
Use franks instead lol😂
Nothing wrong with Ranch Dressing on a steak. It's kinda like Italian Dressing on a pizza.
@@hoosiernickI don't do that either
Honestly, I was praying it was horseradish sauce.
I'm not a Ford guy but that thing looks really good. Carb swap it and drive the hell out of it, super classy and clean truck!
Never seen you finish a project lol
That truck looks incredible for the year and where it is. EFI works when done properly Kevin This truck was hacked, but can be fixed!
Henry was right about the engine swaps, hell I even hate when someone puts a LS into any other brand, even to replace another engine in a Chevy.
I’m hoping there’s a part 2 where you get that truck running and starting well. Gorgeous truck though! Thanks Kevin
This is all absolutely brilliant!! I love it when creative, functional, and cheap come together!!
Really like the Pole Barn Garage reference....JYD & PBG are my 2 favorite car channels. Also, thanks for pronouncing Chetek the right way....lots of peeps think like the CH is Choo choo.
Tom is pure gold, "v-8 powered garbage can"
Genius!
Tom GREAT JOB BROTHER!!!!!!!
Tom is the man! Always get a laugh when he's helping out!
I like the mindset about using similar materials instead of specific "automotive" stuff. My roommate has reptiles and has encountered the same thing, where the specific "reptile" branded stuff is much more expensive than the identical non-reptile stuff.
Love the banter between apprentice and sensei - Woodstock is catching up to both generations with the last one being in '99, 25 years ago!
But got to say loving the work and rescue your doing on this truck it deserves it keep up the good work,
Please keep bringing this great content out for us to watch and thank you for keeping me entertained 😊
I have found if you shove a sponge, or sponge material, in the holes in the fire wall, it keep the cold out and it fills up the hole nicely.
I’m voting for 302 Windsor with a dual plane intake
Hey Kevin, I noticed the tach was not jumping while you were cranking. I had an old 88 K2500 that had that issue. I jumped the fuel relay system and it fixed the problem. I ended up setting up my own 30 amp relay switched on and off by key and hot in crank as well. Have fun with that Fortriac Or Forloret lol
Would love the see you finish the work on this Truck by getting it to run properly and dial in the sound/wind issues. Would be cool to see you update springs, shocks, front end, rear end to make better on the highway.
Glad Tom is teaching you well
As a guy that is looking to insulate a bare steel '56 F-100, this video just put me on a great path!
I like the 59 and 60 Fords. Lots of good interior tips on this episode.
Thanks Doc!!
What a huge difference. So quiet. As a Pontiac fan I approve the powertrain, lol.
Tom is a character and i love it!
"this is what Woodstock was like Tom?"
I almost laughed to death😂😂😂😂😂
I love this episode. Interior updates are never covered!
