He wasn't thrown off course by his competitor. There's a defect in the road that made them wobble and he naturally missed the barrier causing him to turn toward the people. The 3rd guy even wobbled on the same part of the road. It wasn't intentional.
He was going for the pass but didnt make it ahead of the other guy before arriving to the barriers. Then he tried pushing the other guy further left and failed. No road defect.

In reality the rubber bands are quite usefull fpr outdoor gym activities.

Traditional exercises were designed and stood the test of time for a reason: high muscle gain and low chance of injury. "Crossfit" simply lowers the effectiveness of the former and raises the risk of the latter.
