Mark, your camping video shows off your deep experience in camping. You have put together a good collection of gear to make your outdoor nights comfortable. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Mark Stumbled across your channel the other day n love the content !😊 The passion and excitement that you portray so naturally is contagious. I’m sure this channel will take off in no time. Can’t wait for you to start your adventure n look forward to you sharing it with us. Stay safe n keep living your dream 👍
Hi, Mark, Enjoyed your vid. My bucket list is to bicycle tour Route 66 so I’am watching videos, reading, trying to learn all I can. Also, I’am accumulating gear, trying different combinations, you know the drill. Thanks for your input. Om!
I love all the camping gear tips. My son is 11 and has been camping a lot with Boy Scouts this year. They went to camp in Colorado two weeks ago and he said it was so cold! I think I’ll get him the sleeping bag liner for next time. ….and maybe one for me too!
When we did it, we flew from Washington DC to Denver and then rented a 12 passenger van to get us down to Philmont. We brought all of our own equipment.
@@marktgreene I think we went with 4 crews from the south florida council. Each crew did different hikes. But training hikes in the everglades in June wasn't much fun, mosquitoes ate us alive. Still feel the bites 40 plus years later hahaha
I sure am curious to see an "after the trip" gear video to see what you wish you wouldn't have taken. It seems like your packing a whole lot of bags that could easily be condensed to fewer and lighter weight stuff sacks.
Agreed. I am deliberately choosing comfort(s) over speed, and when really in doubt I went with inclusion. I expect I'll drop (send back home) a few things after the first week and especially afer the first month. AND, once I get to Nebraska the temps should be consistently warm enough to allow me to shed some warm clothes and maybe even sleeping gear. And, from Nebraska on, I expect water to be much more available which may impact my cooking and water-carrying needs. But don't be suprised if I decide there's something else I want! Thanks for your note.
Hey Mark! i just found you here. Nice to meet you. i'm a cycle tourist from brazil and soon will be abroad with my bike. what a beautiful journey you're planning. To put the rear wheel in the Pacific and the front wheel in the Atlantic ocean! so inspiring. keep in touch!
Hi Mark, Concerning your JetBoil, was it difficult to find fuel cannisters for the trip? I'm debating either a butane or multifuel. I prefer a butane stove, but I would be concerned about locating cannisters during a long trip. thanks!
In the three months I was out, I only used a bit over one of the large canisters; it's amazing how long those last. I always carried one to use and one backup. I came close enough to Walmart and REI, that resupply would never have been a problem, had I needed more.
That’s my starting weight in TN. I may drop a few pounds before I start pedaling, and then I expect to drop more once the chance of any cold is minimal. That said, I’m definitely going for creature comforts over speed. (And do I REALLY need that heavy kickstand? The heavy power brick? All three drone batteries? Two sets of chamois? Etc., etc.)
That’s a stunning back garden to test out camping gear! I was going to recommend one of those MSR pot scrapers if you didn’t already have one. I’d like to try a jetboil for my tours but I’m quite attached to my trangia system for now. As bulletproof stoves go it’ll probably outlast me. Looking forward to videos from your tour. I’m Scottish but one of my dream tours is to cycle through all the lower 48 states. Can’t wait to see how you get on

The combination of the Nemo pad and Zen Bivy sleep system are working very well for me -- even when Michael is very cold.
philmont was great! was there in 78. they supplied the tents back then. maybe because we flew from miami to denver and bused to base camp.

@@marktgreene Good to know. Thank you!
I learned a lot from this one.
Looking forward to the trip videos Mark, when do you start the ride?
Five days in. I will do a post about these first few days early next week.
@@marktgreene Thanks for the reply, cycle safely!
My bike is 83 pounds. Every weight weenie just passed out! Enjoy the ride.
Thanks!!

If you do that tour of America and your route takes you close to Nashville, please let me know.
Your back yard is so nice, you could just skip the trip and camp there for 3 months! 😸🤣😂
Thanks!!
When does the tour start?
Around June 7, depending of a couple of factors once I get to Portland.
Has anybody ever used a bike trailer to store the camp equipment in as opposed to bike packs? What are the advantages of bike packs vs a trailer?
84 lbs? Okay! You win.
Too much stuff,,😂
