I'm not even a lesbian and I think Somin is literally beautiful. When I first saw Bomb Bomb(which got me into Kard) I also thought she looked like a goddess there. Idk how Kard isn't more popular than they are but they need to be. They're so talented and ik co-ed groups aren't common and as popular in SK but it's so refreshing to hear songs made and sung by both men and women. It gives a perfect balance in the meaning of the lyrics, the choreography, the singing and rapping, all of it. Not to mention they're funny af together. Wow I did not expect to write a book lol
This year will mark 7 year Kard together, i am happy they stay stronger despite co-ed is not really popular in Korea but they're huge in south America and Europe.
With J. Seph finished his military i want to see more Kard in the future, wishing for the best for them...
Somin is my favorite, she is a great dancer, one of the best Vocalists of the third generation, her presence is very captivating and not to mention her incredible beauty

Seeing you absolutely lose it over Bomb Bomb and the visuals in that was so fun, especially thinking "he still got Dumb Litty ahead of him".
About why Kard aren't more popular: they're actually extremely popular! They are fucking HUGE in Latin America!
And they're the only really successful co-ed group out there. The problem is just that co-ed groups don't tend to be as marketable and successful as pure boy or girl groups. There have been other attempts at co-ed groups but they either completely failed (Checkmate, who had an incabable company), were discontinued because their members started dating (Triple H, where Dawn and Hyuna got together; Hui was also in that group) or they're just one off projects (Triple Seven, which combined all the members of girl group 3YE and boy group B.I.G. for one song).
And this Kard comeback in particular is just a prerelease from what I've heard so it makes sense that there isn't too much promotion around it.
One thing I really don't like about Without You is how little Jseph and BM are in it. They feel more like featured artists here rather than actualy group members.
I was lucky enough to see Kard at a festival two months ago and yes, I fully agree with everything you said! Their live energy is so insane. It's like they were made to play festivals.
so my theories on why BM & jshep took back step for without you are ..
1. the song was properly for somin solo debut in 2020 ,but got push back cause COVID etc and the revamp it just as they did with breakdown which was for jiwoo solo debut in 2020..
2.the song was supposed to be for jiwoo & somin girl unit debut as they with their enemy song . and they revamp it to include all members .
3. Girl groups are more likely to build fanbase in south Korea , giving that BM is American - korean it alil tricky to market the boys as Korean boy band , the girl where well receive during the ring alarm comeback and jiwoo is cause good girl so they are using this to build Korean /Asian market during live for without you asian fan ask for asian tour , which means it working , they have alot of asian fans doing dance to with out you more then years past( I know I have been fan since 2016) 😂 dap media / kard has been showing all feature on their stories alot of Korean are doing dance video .
4. they need Korean fans to win award and become more reconginze in awards and reping , we the international fans can't get to win award because of time difference and language barrier hence need for Korean fans to help with voting .
5. kard is group project and they all agree on doing this they hype each other up more then any other kpop group the boys and girl want group to shine and allow each member to shine , as each comeback each member get highlight , ring alarm was jesph , with out you somin, dumb lity jiwoo, boom boom BM .red moon all of them shine . etc it's like they want each other to shine an improve and become better .
As far as Dumb Litty goes, each member represents two Greek Gods and Goddesses, except Matthew who represents a Greek and a Norse God. I find it very interesting to know this while watching the mv cause it is so eye-catching and all members embody their characters to the fullest!
So the Gods/esses go like this:
Matthew: Hammer and chain = Thor(God of thunder, the sky, and agriculture), Magical staff and Lightning = Zeus (God of thunder and lightning, rain, and winds)
JSeph: Ornate mask and red suit = Ares(God of War), Throne and wine spilling = Dionysus (God of wine and pleasure)
Somin: Big shell in the background = Aphrodite (Goddess of love and beauty), Flowers and petals floating around = Chloris (Goddess of spring, flowers, and new growth)
Jiwoo: Red outfit = Hera (Goddess of women, marriage, and childbirth), Sword and armor = Athena (Goddess of wisdom and military victory)
that Bomb Bomb reaction was EVERYTHING 😂 the visuals of all 4 are so astonishing in this MV, it's impossible to not fall in love with them X)
Also love how in depth you analyzed Don't Recall, always amazes me how great you are at picking up the themes and meanings of a song/MV ♥
I really wish they were more popular (I know they are in Latam, but I mean more in general, especially in Korea). Their stage presence and energy at live shows is unbeatable and they compliment each other so incredibly well. Like especially Dumb Litty live will leave you breathless for days 😆
Nope you nailed it for Dumb Litty.. The concept was that of gods.. BM was Thor(if that wasn't obvious with the Hammer), Somin was Aphrodite, Jiwoo i think was Hera & i forgot who J-Speh is
From a quick search it appears that BM was Zeus and Thor like you said, and J.Seph is Ares and Dionysus :)

One of the funniest, non funny videos i've ever seen. The look on your face, in multiple spots was priceless. And I have to agree with you about Somin. I've seen pretty much every woman in Kpop and while there are some beautiful women, I think Somin surpasses each and every one of them. She is perfection! And yes they need and deserve a larger fanbase.
Fortunately, Korea is starting to wake up since Ring the Alarm. In terms of publicity, while I agree that Without You should've had more promotions, their full comeback with an album will be coming up later this month or next month!
I think you would like their You In Me MV/Song...its a very different take on two relationships - both which are dead but 1 person in each relationship won't let the other one go. It's really creepy but also so well done. Personally I think its very overlooked out of all their title tracks.
If you ever get the chance to see them live, go. They are a whole party. Chemistry and creativity is unlimited with this group. I think the rumor is that Without You is a pre release and that an album should be coming. They also have some of the best B-sides.

KARD don't get enough attention. They only make bops, and have featured in my summer listening for years, they're the perfect summer sound. The coed status is something you don't see much in kpop, especially with the way the industry acts like men and women are different species and shouldn't make eye contact. But they have such amazing chemistry, and a great sound, like the industry is missing out.
I also love the way they're like openly and comfortably sexy if that makes sense. Kpop does the sexy thing with their idols, but they often do it in a way where it's like "we're sexy, but by accident", like a flash of collarbone on a made idol that you know has been choreographed and styled to be juuuuust right. Which no complaints, I'd hate to think any idol would be made to wear or do something they're not comfortable with. And obviously many groups do mature concepts and styles too. But I love KARD just being like hello, we are incredibly hot, don't look away. Maybe it's the confidence, or the coed thing in combination, I dunno.😅
watching their mvs is a vicious cycle of "do i want to be WITH them or do i want to BE them?" + kard id the perfect example that men and women can dance exactly the same which is SO nice to see since usually choreographies are made to "fit" either gender

I gotta give it up (heh, please!) to J.seph and BM because it's hard to hold your own when you have a Jiwoo and Somin in your group looking gor-geeeee-us. That they manage, tells us exactly how high-end their visuals are. The talent is there, too, as Without You indicates. It's so unfortunate that there's not more knowledge of them, but they're pretty well known internationally, and spend a lot of time touring overseas. It's nice that they're all mature adults in an industry that so often values youth so highly. Like Monsta X, they can have those lyrics that are enticing and sexy without making adults feel icky. ;) I kept substituting you saying "Jiwoo Christ" because reasons.

Don't Recall has a "Hidden Ver." as well, which is the English version! I think the lyric translation was spot on and didn't detract from the song at all. You In Me has to be one of my favorite songs from them, and probably my favorite MV they've ever done, it's wild as hell 😂

You In Me, I think, ties into the storyline of Don't Recall, with it portraying a sordid, a bit horrific of an end to the respective relationships established in Don't Recall. Not gonna spoil how so, but, I will say, my personal theory (which I can't stress enough is not official, not even a fan theory, it's just based off of a personal reading between the lines , coupled with a consideration to the title) is... Cannibalism as a desire to move on, yet, still keep one in oneself. So... Have fun if you ever decide to revisit their pre-debut stuff with that. And thanks for reacting!

About Dumb Litty, yes, each one of them represents two different gods throughout the MV and Jiwoo absolutely chose violence, she picked that red outfit herself and she went so hard on the choreo she actually injured herself by stabbing her own foot with that sword so, you know, there is that.

Looked forward to your breakdown of "Don't Recall" the most and wasn't disappointed at all, haha. And "Bomb Bomb" was a delight as well and I knew Somin would get you! That was her & BM's era and the former was indeed super LETHAL there. People not too familiar with them always mention their glamour shots & "stares" and with good reason...
And funny you bring up Dreamcatcher, as them & KARD have the connection of both being much bigger internationally than domestically. Though with KARD, it's always been a higher hill to climb, since boy & girl groups are the big thing. Co-ed groups are very niche & fanboys/fangirls can't be invested in them ... But so glad you can see their talents and appreciate them. Hope you react to them more down the line, cheers for the video!

exactly i think groups like K.A.R.D. or DREAMCATCHER ,AESPA and RED VELVET groups with EDM or electronic songs can fit Coatchella for sure .

in dumb litty each member represents two gods: bm is zeus (lightning) and thor (in chains with the hammer, though i personally feel like prometheus would fit better tbh and keep a cohesive greek theme), j.seph is dionysus (throne and wine) and ares (breaking the statues and the headdress), somin is aphrodite and chloris (spring goddess, you could say persephone too) and jiwoo represents athena (sword) and hera (in red). i absolutely love dumb litty, and when you say it sounds new and fresh i agree 100% - they were definitely ahead of their time with this one. later when you have nct doing hot or sticker, or you have stray kids coming in with thunderous, or ateez. (not to mention that they also spearheaded the latin influences in kpop)

KARD is unarguably my second ult group after BTS. They're very different and have SOOO much variety! I hope you check more of them out later but one this is they'll not disappoint. Plus BM is an amazing producer and was the main producer for dumb litty!

In the Dumb Litty bts it’s explained the entire concept is Greek mythology - I can’t remember all of which they are but each member represents two different gods.
Jiwoo is Athena and Hades. J.seph is Dionysus(?) and someone else. B.M is Hephaestus and Zeus, and Somin was Aphrodite and… Venus(?) but I’m unsure.
They're really BEAUTIFUL. I Saw Kard in concert and OMG, SO SO beautiful, aunreal, talented, so nice people can't write in english. Son increibles, gente muy buena y agradecida. Love them

You can blame the current poor marketing on RBW and the previous poor marketing on DSP :) I love Kard but I didn't know this was coming out until like the day before.
You picked a great selection of songs for this spotlight. With Dumb Litty the concept was Greek gods. BM is Zeus, Jseph is Dionysus(god of wine), Somin is Aphrodite, and I think Jiwoo is Artemis. But yes Somin looks like a greek goddess in almost every MV :) Dumb Litty was the first title track composed and written by BM.
One of my favorite songs of theirs is Oh Nana. That and don't recall I believe were predebut MVs. Also Somin and Jiwoo have a performance video called Enemy. And BM has some good Solo MVs. Also Jiwoo was a cast member on Good Girl if that ever gets any votes on the next poll.

About Dumb Litty, BM actually co-produced the song :3 and indeed, you're correct on the mythology thing. They actually took the concept of Greek and Norse (very random lol) mythology and each member has two gods/goddesses.
BM channels Zeus and Thor, both strong and leading figures (fitting for his role as leader) and I mean, I guess both of them are tied to lightning in a way.
J. Seph channels Aries (in the sequence of red and sculptures) and Dionysus (where he plays with wine, obviously lol).
Somin in the bedazzled jumpsuit is Aphrodite, much to the visual position she has in the group (cause god that woman is STUNNING) and Chloris, who was a greek nymph/goddess that's mostly linked to flowers and spring (hence the scene she's surrounded and carries flowers.)
And finally, Jiwoo is Athena in the sequence she carries a sword and has a golden-leaf head piece and Hera in the one she's in that red ILLEGAL outfit cause how dare she look that good. UGH.
Don't ask me why Hera is represented like that or why BM is the only one who has the random ass Norse god stuck between the greek representation cause zero idea 😹😹

As for what you said at the end of the bomb bomb reaction, there are 2 groups in kpop who i absolutely cannot understand why aren't more popular: Kard and A.C.E , it's like, the talent is over the charts, the concepts are unique, the songs are catchy, the members are charismatic and good looking and then WHY aren't more people talking about them ?!?! i truly don't get it.

Yes they are all so good looking! These are grown up lyrics. Especially in bomb bomb. And that part where BM has his shirt off with the flames always gives me mortal kombat movie vibes lol and sheesh I thought the same when I first saw them..how are they not bigger!!
Dreamcatcher is my ult group but Kard is a close second despite not being my usual music style, they're not afraid to try different sounds and when they click they REALLY click. I'm so glad I got to see them live, BM's english helped make the concert even more engaging!

I don't know why BM is the only Norse one and not just Zeus/Jupiter instead but I think he wanted the hammer?

You should check out the remaining Hola Hola, Oh NaNa, Rumor (Hidden version is the best mv), You In Me, and Red Moon. I personally don't like Ride on the Wind, and I always forget that's a song but check it out as well if you want to do all title tracks. The mv/song I really want to hear your analysis on is You In Me since the story behind that song and mv is intense.
one of the hardest things about stanning KARD is that my sexual orientation switch from one to another in just ONE GOD DAMN MINUTE!!

I liked Kard because of the co-ed group but their tropical/house/Latin/upbeat/easy listening songs weren't my vibe. When they came out with Bomb Bomb and the chorus hit, I remember thinking "They didn't come to play!" Then came Dumb Litty. My favorite Kard song is Gunshot, then DL and then BB. I'm not feeling their latest song but I'm looking forward to their comeback.
They came to Seattle last fall. Was so happy...never thought that I would get the opportunity to see them live. One of my favorite groups.
There's an English version to Don't Recall that is also fire. It was one of the first songs I really obsessed over when I got into kpop... kinda nice to be able to sing along without entirely butchering the Korean language. 😄
