Some one was able to get a refund with almost 100 hours, stating that they do not agree with Sony's decision. So I think if players state they are unable to access the game because of their country, Steam might actually start giving refunds.
If this is the case then I'm fine (as much as I can be) with this. My only thing is if someone put money into this game they should get that money back if PSN is forcing this in this way.

I had to resubmit 6 times, but with a well stated and respectful reason (that I totally wrote myself and didn't just copy-paste from the discord) got refunded with over 380hrs.
Steam just delisted 177 locations from the storefront so yea SONY basically just knowingly forced Arrowhead to rug pull 2/3rds of the globe yea let that sink in .
Also, people should understand that notorious Jeff only post on a single channel.

@@denzel_thegreat1681 *Correction. Every other company already does this, but makes it mandatory and unavoidable at lauch, not 3 months down the line when the refund windows are closed, and after people in regions which can't access their network has already bought the game.
Most other companies also don't have the terrible security and data breach track record that sony has.
Also the account linking stuff has already gotten too far. Feels like I need 55+ accounts linked just to play a game these days.
Ubisoft, Activision, Rockstar, and for a short time EA, and Bethesda. They all did this. And these arent the only ones.
Sony doesn't have normal game releases on PC at all. There are legitimately only a small handful of games. Xbox has an app with a store to buy games. Epic, EA, GOG, and Ubisoft don't have their own consoles to sell games. So it makes sense that they do it.
If Sony creates their own online app store and puts it on PC, it would make sense.
We shouldn't have to subscribe to PSN without there being a reason to do so. Buying a game through Steam isn't one of those reasons.

Sony didn't censor Stellar blade though? The directors of the games have said multiple times it was there decision to do so and it had nothing to do with Sony. Sony still sucks though there is a lot you can call them out for, the censoring is not one of them

@@nelluc8831 Except it is. The censorship was not based off just the suits. Blood and Gore was completely toned down and the removal of the infamous "hard r" is clearly a sony thing and not from Shift Up.
And devs may be under NDA and could have taken some money that they relied on sony from. The Devs have clearly stated that they will release the game uncensored in all regions, and a lot of those suits were actually based off some things that are commonly wore in the east.
We also have examples such as Tsukihime which is somehow releasing uncensored on the Switch so it's clearly Sony at fault here.

I was going to buy helldivers 2 today until I saw the reviews. I instead decided to get ready or not, because Sony pulling this stunt doesn't deserve my support. When they revert this option, I'll dive into robot Vietnam and support my fellow divers..

@@rarepug2086throughout 2011 it was confirmed at least three times that Sony had data breaches. Their super unreliable and scummy. Last one was in October of 2023 confirmed. Now imagine the hacks they swept under the rug

Not to mention that those major hacks were motivated by unhappy playstation customers, which actually makes this kind of psn requirement a dangerous choice. When hackers see that Sony is trying to convert millions of players into having a playstation network account, that makes it into a high priority target by said hackers. And if Sony does get hacked, they will ultimately lose shareholder money in that scenario, completely negating gains made by the added numbers.
Sony is about to nuke a major part of HellDiver's player base, one of the worst things you could possibly do to a live service game.
Maybe they'll have to send it to xbox now.
You can't link a PSN account to Xbox. If they are making account linking a requirement for Steam, why would Xbox be exempt?

Sony, What have you done? They can't revert back to a PlayStation exclusive now, because the majority of PC gamers made the game successful. All you had to do before the game even launched, was not tell the devs to also port this to PC. I'm not saying PlayStation players weren’t contributing as well to the success of Helldivers 2. It was just that the game wouldn’t be this successful without PC as well. Why would they try to assimilate PC players to PSN accounts when it's was optional before? Why did you do that?

Also they charge for PlayStation Network functionality on their consoles, so how long will it be until they start charging us PC players to play their games online?
Even more concerning to me is that their anti-cheat gives kernel level permissions to SNOY, so hackers can take over my pc simply by going in through the developer's less than stellar security.

It’s pretty much par for the course with Sony. They’re not the first to do this nor will they be the last but this was their one opportunity to stray from the norm and they botched it. They pretty much proved to all of us that they’re nothing more than your standard, run of the mill, greedy corporation that only serve to please the shareholders.

People also skip the part where just before this issue, sony announced theyre going to monitor voice chats and messages to apply some "safety" bs. That means they wanted to extend their reach along with padding their psn numbers.
btw, sony will ban you if you use a vpn just to try and play the game. so it's like a contradiction/double edged sword and both edges are pointed at sony's neck.

It details that circumventing their stipulations is against code of conduct by the consumer as using a vpn can and is an act of bypassing their authorization and authentication requirements by obfuscating your actual location

No new money coming from me anymore.
Thats why i never play/buy/preorder Games that are the current Hype . I wait and watch & after few months with most needed Patches and a Discount then i may buy the Game.

Imagine buying a boat and the store page in fine print off at the bottom says "May contain a bomb but... we don't know" you get on the boat check it head and toe for the bomb but don't find it only to sale on it for months for the radio on it to chime in and say. Yeah Reddit has been on fire with this recently and I don't blame them, both sides are arguing about it. The idea of it being just to please shareholders isn't one I've seen or thought of, but its a very likely reason.

And Ghost of Tsushima will require a PSN account for multiplayer on PC. Only a matter of time until it requires it for singleplayer too.

I am just gonna say this, it sucks that Sony is putting their foot down the way they did but the CEO of Arrowhead shot themselves in the foot as well since when you make a game you MUST be careful who you decide to have publish your game if you have given the publisher the rights to your game it sucks... But really that is your fault, its like giving your car knowing that they have a horrible record of driving cars... Both are to blame for different things, I hope Arrowhead in future try to be more independent

My theory is that with people cancelling their subscription to PSN because of the Stella Blade stuff, Sony might think this will bolster their numbers back up.

It’s easy to tell it’s for money. Just like how they tried to not have crossplay on PlayStation and thought if you wanted to play with PlayStation players then get a PlayStation and it was controversial and forced to implement crossplay
Dang it’s a shame cause I was planning to get Helldivers 2 when my exams were over.
I bought the game and like $20 of super credits the day before this happened lol It is what it is. I'm not going through the trouble of refunding cuz I just don't have anything better to play but still.
EU has consumer protection. Forcing customers to make an account that will collect data after the fact is a pretty easy way for every EU person to request a refund and if steam denies it they get to deal with consumer protection. Which they wont, they’ll just charge sony for the refunds. Even worse if sou are in a country that cant actually make an account.
This has to be corporate sabotage, If the dev's can they should sue sony or atleast the shareholders should.
The devs are almost certainly under contract not to use sony.

Imma be honest. I would use any other launcher if I could just use one launcher.
The biggest problem is that it's a bait and switch. If a sony account was required from the very start, no one would care because those that don't want to create one wouldn't have bought the game in the first place. It's the fact that after paid money for the game, after you learned to enjoy it, did sony pulled a Darth Vader and altered the deal. Also, brain dead response from their community mangers made things worse.

I want Sonny to make a statement because right now it looks like they just threw arrow head under the bus as soon as they made their announcements and dipped. No follow up or nothing, just letting arrow head take the brunt after basocally stepping in, napalming the PC community ans just staying radio silent to maybe squeeze a bit more PSN accounts for those EVER oncreasing shareholder stocks. Its disgusting, Helldivers 2 is my game of the year, bugs and all, and to see this come from the big guys up top is disheartening for the devs who've worked so hard to build up the community we have so far. One thing that will also be affected is our ability to tackle MAJOR ORDERS as effectively as we have so far, but thats way less important
The worst part is it took Arrow Head years to get this game ready just to have it in this state.
Sony has caused so many problems in gaming, it's not funny. From denying some games cross progression to now this that will cut a significant amount of the helldivers playerbase. They are just a difficult company to deal with

It sucks that the developers will get a good chunk of the consequences for Sony's actions. They made a good game and deserve the money they got for it, unfortunately Sony just couldn't sit and let it make money they just had to mess it up somehow.

The Devs are practically watching there game burn within 72 hours just because sony practically forced them to do it as of now and are still getting hate when it wasn't there decision, Yes they did sign the contract with sony. But if they never did,HD2 would have never existed to begin with and we would still be playing modern games by terrible AAA companies
100% this. People speak on things they don't understand when they say that they should have never signed with any publisher. That's just not possible. It's not how the industry works. For a reason. Their only other options are just as bad if not worse. This is why in my opinion, most of the anger and hatred should be directed towards sony.

Currently as of 9:19pm EST May 4th, I created a new steam account to verify a rumor I heard on reddit. I set my Country to Egypt and turned on my VPN for an Egypt server. I went to the Helldivers page and COULD NOT find a way to purchase the game. Please somebody tell me I am in a fever dream and that this is all just a figment of my imagination. I WANT to be wrong.

I hope this motivates other gaming studios to not work with Sony and just work with some other publisher.
I hope in the future, developers see how detrimental having a big greedy publisher can be to their game. It is literally selling the soul of your game to the greatest sources of evil in our world.
The best that we can hope for is developers trying to fight for negotiating power in their contracts. Similar to what Bungie did with destiny. They signed a deal with Activision but made it very clear during the meetings that they would give Activision no creative control over the company and the company would reserve the right to pull out of the contract at any time for any reason and Activision agreed. If studios are able to enter into more agreements like this situations like this would be more easily rectified and potentially publishing companies would be more worried about making mistakes like this because they'd lose large studios like crazy. Hopefully leading towards publishing companies being forced to act more pro-consumer.
@@papasivir4241 I don’t get how these developer studios get into these issues in the first place. It’s pretty common for publishers to mess up game franchises just would expect every studio to have safety measures in place for when the publisher inevitably decides to ruin everything

Microsoft had just shut down a bunch of studios. Including a studio who made a game that won a award last December.

You can't grant immunity to those in the countries where they can't create a PSN account, and then claim the whole reason for the account is "Security" and "Able to ban the bad players." It's either everyone has the PSN ID, or get rid of the ID altogether. To quote from The Day The Earth Stood Still, "There must be security for all, or no one is secure."

Something most people don’t talk about is that this was mandatory from the start, it was just temporarily made optional due to server issues.
Though I do have to say, Arrowhead are at fault for not adequately communicating with the newer players who didn’t know (they only had one pop-up & it wasn’t very clear on Steam), and Sony & Steam are at fault for selling in regions they weren’t supposed to.
Sad thing is, just like the Warzone situation, this might not be resolve. Knowing AAA corporations and their loyalists, as long as we don't know what move we must do, the chances of winning is negative.
This was a predatory business practice used by Sony
if it was just for the crossplay feature then the backlash wouldn't be that severe,
everyone could still play and those with PS friends would just make an account and the few that live in areas that can't create one to play with PS friends would be upset but they can still at least play the game.
As many times as the Sony servers have been hacked and they didn't tell people until long after the damages were done makes me astonished people even buy their consoles in the first place.
As for the devs, they sold out to Sony and are just as complacent.

if they just required my email and phone i wouldn't care but a PSN account requires my address, my zip code , a face scan and my id for a company that is know for having leaks. also over 100 countries player bases will be forced out of their game if they were originally gonna need a PSN account why did they sell it in those country.
Man I really do feel physical copies or pirating is about to really become a main topic as a savior, which is probably overselling it but looking a few years ahead and seeing if gaming companies keep doing the same thing like this....

Everyone forgets the Sony BMG CD copy protection rootkit scandal was a scandal focused on the implementation of copy protection measures on your PC to track those copying music they bought leaving security holes that needed to patch.

For me, creating and linking an account is not a problem. the problem is that PSN doesn’t work in my country, and there are no guarantees that I won’t be banned for creating an account through VPN

You're missing the entire point as well as some critical details: the main issue here is REQUIRING THE LINKAGE 3 MONTHS POST-LAUNCH AND NEVER HAVING COMMUNICATING THAT THE INITIAL LACK OF ENFORCEMENT WAS A GRACE PERIOD IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Also you keep saying the devs had no hand in this and it was all Sony, but even 14 hrs ago when you posted this video we already knew the devs knew about this in advance.
