What is a more durable unit that'll last. That sanitaire or the Kirby g diamond? And which one cleans better too?

I’d say both are just as durable. As for cleaning, they both do a fantastic job, but I think the Sanitare has better agitation, mainly because of the vibra groomer II brushroll It has. Though if the Diamond Edition has the newest style Brushroll, it’ll be a great deep cleaner.

I'm assuming the sanitaire has lower cost of ownership since parts are cheaper and it has no transmission. I'm choosing between a 50 dollar sanitaire from 2006 and the g diamond for 100 bucks. Both have been serviced well

Well either seems like a good deal depending on your situation. If you just need a good and reliable deep cleaning machine, get the Sanitare. If you need a deep cleaning machine that serves as a full on home care system, get the Kirby. The Sanitare would be cheaper to service.
