I am an architectural designer (just graduated with a masters in architecture a year ago) and I applied to ikea's Retail Store Design Associate in the US. and I am just getting mentally ready because i have an interview in two days. I'm not sur eif this is the "right" path but after working a whole year in an architectural firm i wanted to try out interior design and well idk what to expect. ahaha. anyway thanks for providing some real life feedback on the job. thank you. and i love your video. firsst one i see and i already subscorbed. love your personality it feels like i know you since ever :)

I'm an ID with IKEA now and I'm trying to leave. I know exactly what you mean about struggling to direct your own career in the company. My background prior to IKEA is in graphic design but the company refuses to hire me on the graphics team despite the fact that I have years of experience for that role and no previous experience in interior design whatsoever. For me it's more of a housekeeping job than a design job. You were smart to get out when you did. I've been with the company so long that it's hard to be perceived by potential employers as a design professional and not a retail worker.
Wow they hired you as an ID with no ID skills, education, or interest? I wish you Luck in finding your dream job in graphic design. But hey, if not start you own fortune 500 Graphic Design Company! Gotta think outside of the box of being employed to Becoming an Employer..
@@prosperity. I think they just saw I had a BA in a design-related field and was willing to work hard. I'm not kidding when I say it's mostly grunt work. I would have loved it if it were an actual design job but it's really more about cleaning, building, repairing and putting messages on products that no one will read.
Thanks for the encouragement but I don't have the venture capitalist backing to start a Fortune 500 Company, but I'll be happy working in-house.

I'm industrial designer and I have experience in interior design and furniture desing... I would like to work in visual merchandising is one of my dreams.. Im very tired of product and furniture desing because you have a lot of responsibility in production and it is not good paid in my country.. Ikea is coming to my country (Colombia in south America) next year (2023) and I want to be part of visual merchandising team ... I saw something called "home furnishing and retail manager" do you know something about this kind of job in Ikea? Is Ikea a good company for the workers? What was your schedule? Did you work at weekends?

Doctors are the ones you should visit when you feel you need medical should consult an interior designer if you are looking for interior design is a difficult job that requires lots of skill and is a great service for interior design.
