Man I was surprised to see how good of a wrestler Norman Smiley is. He’s such a solid worker but you’d never know watching WCW. They didn’t really set him up for success.
Imagine wrestling a match and then someone just comes out and begins to cut a promo, I know it's just a show but I seriously wonder how the wrestlers having a match honestly feel. Some might not care but man that just rubs me wrong.
Just when you thought Vince Russo was the worst creative mind of all time in professional wrestling,….Billy Corgan bought the NWA and did the Samahain PPV.
Hard to believe that WCW really thought bringing in one writer was going to get them back on top. They had the talent, and probably the better workers at the time. They had Goldberg, if someone with just a little sense would have came in could have possibly saved WCW.
Definitely did NOT have the better workers, not even close. It's especially a joke when you claim they have the better workers and then mention Goldberg.
That angle with Ric Flair was just an excuse to show off how hot Kimberly Page was. Also, Russo and Ferrara wanted Madusa to wear an actual evening gown with a string bikini underneath and she refused and we got that match instead.
Some should tell Big Kev that when rappers talk about being messed up of Syzzurp or lean, they don't mean NyQuil. It'll just dry up your nose and make your tongue 🔵.
My boy Vince Russo actually did a lot of good stuff in wcw: La parka voiceover gimmick, three count, Jung dragons, booker t as champ, vampiro vs sting, vampiro vs mad jack, spring stampede 2000, fall brawl 2000, screaming Norman, jindrak/ohaire, Scott Steiner, flair vs Douglas, idgaf anymore gene okerlund, war games return, Stacey keibler, the 8/28/2000 nitro, etc
It was always bad in my opinion. They aired Thunder In Paradise immediately after Nitro on TNT so it made WCW just feel incredibly fake even though I was 5 years old back in 95. WWF I was obsessive over. WCW I never liked. I thought it was all actually real back as a Kid and STILL WCW couldn't get me.
good material like Mae Young giving an birth to an hand that we saw after Russo was gone? almost seems like Vince Mcmahon needs Pat Patterson or Russo (someone creative and who is up to date when it comes to current pop culture etc.) when it comes to two eras when he had huge amount of success he failed to replicate after those two were gone from the creative process.
@@gtasanandreas684 are you saying that Vince Mcmahon who put forward things like Mae Young giving an birth to an hand, Katie Vick angle, Hornswoggle being his illegitimate son, Abonymous Raw GM, Piggy James, Gobbledy Gooker and numerous other storylines that were absolutely horrendous was this magical filter? I don't know if it's worse, but the episode of WCW Thunder which aired before this very Nitro is one of the funniest two hours of wrestling I've ever seen. It was Kevin Nash's last night as head booker and he is on commentary and Chet Lemon is fresh out of Fs to give because he is trolling the entire broadcast. Even Mike Tenay and Larry Zbyzko end up joining in.
Tony: "Kevin, what are you doing here?" Kevin Nash: "Well see, there's been a lot of people who say i was a horrible booker but i've actually booked myself the best angle of all time; I'M RETIRED... And since they're paying me big money they decided to stick me on commentary in order to recoup some of those funds!"
16:26 Not gonna lie. I love these type of powerslam Goldberg did. It even appeared in WCW Backstage Assault front cover. Unfortunately, It seemingly never appeared in any wrestling game as moveset (even Backstage Assault)
Agree re sid and his network theme. His booking around this time was one of few highlights for me. Loved his feud with Goldberg made him look like a crazed lunatic especially when he got busted open the hard way in a brawl backstage. Genuinely felt like sid wanted to rip out Goldberg's throat
To be honest Russo's shows are much more exciting than most of the past 15 years combined. I recently started watching his first nitro run and then when Sullivan took over it was such a night and das difference on how bad it got. Then Russo came back and for me personally it instantly got funny and watchable again. Given some of the stuff he did might been questionable but still it's entertaining unlike most other stuff. And yes I rather watch an interesting story instead of what we got today 🤷
Maybe because Goldberg actually is a safe worker. People never give the guy his credit for being safe. Bret made his own concussion severe by continuing to compete for months because he didn't want to drop the title
@marcespinoza6068 yet he kept wrestling for months taking head bumps and it kept getting worse so yea he knew how severe it got. Bret still hasn't taken accountability for making his own concussion worse. He chose to continue competing because he didn't want to relinquish the WHC. It's his own fault like it or not
I noticed the masks The Outsiders wear are masks of the Villanos. That detail alone is the best part of the show excluding the cruiserweight triple threat. No, I didn’t see the show
These make me sad when so many of my favorite wrestling legends that are dead are on these .They seem so young and these nitro don't seem as along ago as they were .It makes it hard to believe .
Bret Hart vs. Sting for the WCW title could have been ratings but it's WCW. Under Russo or Bischoff there can't just be a match, there always has to be shenanigans.
What a chaotic and non-sensical broadcast. Would I be correct in thinking that maybe the title match went on in the middle because it was clashing with the start of Raw?
I was actually at this Nitro, sitting several rows back behind commentary and... we left early at around 1030 PM because it was so awful. The pop Jarrett got was like the only think memorable. Also, we could not hear anything that was show on on the big screens, DJ Ran was still doing his shtick during commercial breaks.
I always wanted to ask Vince Russo this but he was trained by Johnny Rodz, but to do what? Was he originally going to be a wrestler? I don't know what Johnny could do to train Russo.
Watching Wrestling Bios cover this era of Russo and the Outsiders were the epitome of channel changing doffus heel teams. I hated them during this time.
It takes a very special person to have Sting vs Bret Hart on the card & still end up with one of the worst episodes of rasslin' ever.
The title match just slapped into the middle of this clusterfuk is the patented Russo chef’s kiss.
Bro, no one is expectin' it
Man I was surprised to see how good of a wrestler Norman Smiley is. He’s such a solid worker but you’d never know watching WCW. They didn’t really set him up for success.
They REALLY didn’t, he was so good AND he got himself over. The wiggle was MASSIVELY over.
His hair cut and his little ass wrestling gear did more harm than anything else

The hawk should review november 29,1999 episode of nitro it's a pretty weird episode

Is that the one where lemme see.....they had Hall win a terrible ladder match or the one where they tossed the TV belt away?
@@JoeChillton the one they tosed the tv belt ,for some reason i like vince russo style of booking ,bro.
People like to blame the fall of WCW on Vince, but Hogan, Bishoff, and Nash did just as much as Ruso to destroy the company.
WCW was collapsing in 1999 and Bischoff was in charge for most of that year.
He ran out of good ideas and could not adapt.
Who ever ever gave Bischoff a pass?
I hope I’m not the only one looking to see Marky interview Glenn Gilberti, just to finally get the answer to how is he gifted 😂😂
