Dude, as a proud Previa owner (x2) I’d like to clarify it is a SportVan. It says so on the title. Therefore even though it was competing with minivans, it is not in fact a minivan. Best vehicles I’ve ever had and I still regret getting rid of my first one. It had 240k miles and still ran like a champ.
I had a 93 Previa for a while. I wish I never sold it. Best running motor I ever had. Super comfortable to drive. I sold it because I was poor and it needed suspension work, which I thought I couldn’t afford. I should’ve taken a second job to get that thing back running good.
My neighbors growing up had a Toyota Van that they replaced with a Previa All-Trac as well as a Camry wagon. This couple is older now and they just have a 2012ish Camry, but growing up around their funky, long lasting Toyotas influenced my family to switch to Toyota after owning Saturns for years.
4:11 That's the same placement as the HiAce. Toyota had experience with it so they did it with their minivan as well. A certain HiAce that still in production today also has it. The newer HiAce has it under the hood.
Very cool. I vaguely remember (dating myself) some of the ads for this when it came out. One I recall was based on UFO sightings but it was actually a Previa. The Sienna became an instant hit because folks were waiting for a Camry based V6 powered van to replace this one.

I had an ‘05 … it was so reliable, wasn’t very difficult to fix when it had issues. Turning corners was fun bc mine was sitting a little lower. Mann I miss this car. But my AC went out, could have fixed it, but decided to sell it to get it a Honda Element SC. Love both cars
I have a 5 speed manual Previa. It’s a unicorn. An egg shaped unicorn. It’s a hoot to drive it. Rwd, manual, mid engine, and Toyota reliability. I’ll keep it until I can’t buy parts anymore. 200k miles and climbing!
The current Sienna really needs the 2GR and/or the T24A. That A25A hybrid is too weak. Displacement or turbo power are always on tap, the hybrid isn't and it struggles.
Agreed. I’d prefer the 2GR because the T24A might be stressed under load like the A25A. Now that would be a different story if the sienna had the HybridMAX powertrain

The US and most of the world got the IS250 as a base model. 4GR-FSE 2.5L V6 with direct injection only, and only the IS350 had the 2GR-FSE 3.5L V6 with direct and port injection. Now the really cool part is, the middle east didn't get the IS250, instead it got an IS300. IS300? Like your partners yellow one? No, a 2nd gen Lexus IS with a 3GR-FE 3.0L V6 with port injection only making more power and torque than the direct injection 2.5L V6 (228hp vs 205hp, 221lb-ft vs 186lb-ft), a beautiful old-school FE motor. No replacement for displacement💪
The current Sienna is quicker to 60 than any of the V6s of a generation ago. 0-60 in the mid to high 7s is plenty for a van. I'd much rather have the 36 mpg city than a half second faster acceleration to 60.
The owner of this car will come across two versions of this car, ONE that never breaks down and will last you a lifetime, the SECOND being one that breaks down every 2 weeks for no reason
Ooh I’d love one of these one day. Minus the somewhat egg shaped front end (imo), the previa is a reliable Porsche minivan. Why Porsche? Porsches are ubiquitous with mid engine vehicles. the previa kind of has a mid engine.😀 My only disappointment is that they offered a supercharged engine but didn’t pair it with the manual transmission. That combo would have been epic…
Yeah, uh, speaking as a guy who got the family minivan as his first car when he was in high school, and somehow had a girlfriend in high school too? ...lets just say that the middle row folding down flush with the back row was... not an unknown feature. Cough.
