  • Enjoy a short proof flight of the Phoenix Waco ARF featuring a great running UMS 125 Radial engine. The plane was recently flown at C.A.R.D.S. Field near Lansing Michigan at the clubs annual fundraiser for local charities. Excellent maintained grass strips and friendly folks putting on the event for great causes.
Expert piloting by Andy Gideon of Andy's R/C Videos wowed the spectators with the low rpm and
power on passes with this beautiful model of the classic Waco YMF-5.
Enjoy and hope to see you next year at this great day for a cause!

Mine just arrived today and I could not resist opening the box even though I dont plan on a build right now. Thinking about buying a 60 cc RG 3 for it.

They are a great arf. Whatever power you use you will enjoy the plane. Not a bad idea to inspect the wing tube perches in the fuze..I felt the hot melt used on mine was not adequate. Added some structural gussets in that area also. Stripped the wings and added CA to all the ribs. Gussetted the tube junctions with fortified epoxy. My radial and exhaust added 9.5 pounds and generates 32 pounds of thrust. I felt the structural additions were warranted even with the smooth power curve of the 5 cylinder. Just me being cautious....

The Waco YMF series are the most beautiful biplane ever! Andy makes it look so easy, I really like him. I'm currently flying an old but recently built Dave Platt 1/6 scale YMF3 with a .91 four stroke. Total pleasure. You have an outstanding airplane!

Andy is one of the nicest people I have met in the hobby. I fly a 1/5 scale YMF also. The Wacos and Stearman are my favorites. The Pica is a sweet scale flyer too. I have a couple of them in the hanger also. Thanks for the comments. Have a couple other biplane videos up you may enjoy on a winter day.

    Absolutely beautiful, poetry in baritone.
    Makes a Panhead envious.

Thanks Marino. Believe it or not no. Balances with three batteries front of the cg. No weight aft. Thanks for watching!

That is a beautiful model, but we need to write the company about making them again. I noticed they discontinued this model when Covid hit... We want it back...

Couldn't agree more. So fun watching an accomplished pilot fly it too. Andy is a great guy, Gave me a chance to just simply enjoy the sight and sound.
Hopefully more will eventually be available. Another member got one last season. Phoenix made some structural improvements too.
      Thanks for commenting 😊

Nice flying beautiful plane. I Love the engine. Will you tell me how this plane disassembles for transporting? I want to purchase this phoenix model

Hi. Pretty easy for it's size. The upper and lower wings are on tubes and slide out after detaching the N struts.. Approximately 15 minute set up and tear down. Love the plane and engine.
      Thanks for watching

@@josephhubbard5299 will you tell me about your reciver/ transmitter set up? Do you use a stabilizer?
      Thank you.

@@I_am_archie Hi The radio is a Spectrum DX18 and a spectrum power safe reciever running two LiFe batteries and a third Lithion for the ignition. No stabilized options on the reciever. It flys really nice without any bad habits. Thanks for watching!

Fantastic engine and model. Need much weight in tail?.

    • @josephhubbard5299
      @josephhubbard5299  ปีที่แล้ว

None in tail. Battery pack adjustments directly under CG and it flys great!

Did you go with more throw on the ailerons than the book mentions? I went with the standard setup and mine takes 5 mins to do a roll. Its really bad on aileron roll rate. Thanks.

      Hey Tim
I have full servo travel with 30% expo, no rates set. Savox HV servos. Still lazy on aileron rolls.. I have been leary doing anything stressful with it. The ARF has a reputation for wing failure. I opened the wings on mine and found some marginal glue ups. I added fortification to the fuze perches also. I feel better about it now. I am still pretty easy on it though. I am not a real confident pilot, and it is a big investment for me.
