Suffer the Little Children Podcast - Episode 136: Bradley McGee (Part 1)

  • In 1987, four-month-old Bradley McGee was abandoned at a shopping mall and placed into foster care. He spent most of his life thriving and happy in the Lakeland, Florida home of his foster family. In 1989, despite reports of abuse from multiple family members and others, Bradley was placed back into the custody of his mother and stepfather, Sheryl and Tom Coe. Just two months later, two-year-old Bradley was dead.
This is the story of yet another toddler murdered over potty training when his stepfather punished him for having an accident by dunking his head repeatedly and viciously into the toilet bowl. It’s also the story of a little boy whose death prompted sweeping changes in Florida’s child welfare system.
This is part one of the horrific story of Bradley McGee.

Don't pay attention to people complaining about "recaps" and updates. As you said, if they're only interested in new cases, then they are not the intended audience. These children were real, as were their suffering, and the grief their families experience. These poor babies matter, no matter how much time has passed since their killers were sentenced. Also, part where they talked about there being no new cases to cover showed how little they know and care about child abuse. There will never be "no new case", unfortunately.
All this to say, thank you for all the dedication you put into each child's story, and not letting them be forgotten. Don't let this kind of reviews get to you, you're doing a great job. Not to mention almost every person you interviewed has thanked you for doing this podcast. You don't only help keep these children's memories alive, but also help their loved ones. That's more than anyone could ask from you.

If people don't want to watch an update how about don't watch it then. There are things I don't agree with you on in some non case related things but I put that aside because I think what you're doing with the channel is amazing. I feel like you do it for the children more than for yourself, and that is what truly matters. I think the updates are important. Mostly for me I want to know if someone who did horrible things to the most innocent in our society faced real justice. If I'm not interested that day, I simply don't watch it. Your not beholden to your audience to make content only they want to see. Rest peacefully, Bradley. may Jesus give you the most beautiful wings and hold you when you need it always.

@@samsalamander8147 it makes my blood boil that reunification is the goal and not what the child's best interest is. I had a horrible experience dealing with CPS as a mandated reporter when I had to report alleged abuse. They removed the child from the home away from their abuser... only to place her in the home directly across the street with people who were the abuser's best friends. It made me sick. Luckily, the child grew into a beautiful and healthy young lady and is doing well now-- which is the only reason I'm at peace with the whole thing.

I’m so sick of hearing about children being taken from loving homes to be returned to patently unfit homes and parents. It’s beyond cruel to take a 2 yr old from a home they are attached to and obviously love and I can’t imagine the fear and confusion this poor child felt in his last months all for the sake of “family reunification”. The needs of the child MUST be put above all else and there are alternative ways to maintain biological family bonds while still ensuring the child remains in a stable HEALTHY home.

It's so freaking frustrating that the poor boy wasn't able to speak up for himself and that those great foster people had to lose their little boy just cuz the failure that birthed him decided she wanted him back. Why do these people even want their kids back?? Isn't it easier for them not to have them? I genuinely don't get it. And I think that we need to have a boss towards wherever the child is doing the best and happier, not towards family reunification.

I could barely stand to listen to the details of what he endured on that last day... to think that this beast was right there, going back & forth between watching the abuses & joining in on them. Monster!

Oh my goodness. Why do they give the babies back to these people.
I remember when my, now 13 year old boy was 2, he was so curious about his body. We used to joke to him that'll it will fall off if he doesn't stop touching it. Just a normal part of being a toddler. I can't imagine punishing a child for any of this. Even toilet training accidents.
My brain just doesn't compute all this sometimes 😔 babies dying because they're learning

Thank you for not forgetting this story…Bradley found a safe and loving home where he was so loved unfortunately that wasn’t good enough for the state of Florida. Sadly it seems nothing has really changed. Love you Bradley and Uncle Jim

Your channel is amazing to me and a lot of other people I know also agree!! Yes it’s sad to hear but if people care they will watch and listen to what the little children had to endure before they died it’s sad and the more awareness that is brought to the issue of children being killed and Cps failing the children maybe laws will be changed and we will have more children that are helped and LIVE not DIE!! I love your channel and usually when you do a re post of a case it’s an update or you have learned more information and that’s what I love about your channel you don’t just not follow up or if u find out that something was wrong or mis interpreted you correct it and that’s how a caring person should be and do so the listeners are informed!! Keep going with your channel and how your doing it❤

What the actual fuck is wrong with these people. I can't believe their are so many sick people in this world who can do these unspeakable things to these sweet, innocent, trusting babies! It makes me absolutely sick. Rest in peace sweet baby boy 😢

My kids have never touched themselves... I was all ready for for the "it's natural and normal" convo, and it hasn't happened yet. I started wondering if maybe it was only caused by abuse 🤔

Most little boys especially, after they "discover themselves," are fascinated with that area. It's a very normal developmental stage. www.whattoexpect.com/toddler/behavior/masturbating.aspx

When you think you've heard the worst, then there's more.
Ppl who've never suffered child abuse just can't wrap their mind around that this stuff really happens.
& the survivors can sometimes find the courage to talk, but the ones who don't survive, they're gone.
For the ones who don't understand, don't worry about them. You have how many more who do understand!
Thank you for your work! 😻😻😷

I'm fostering my baby grandson. For 18 months neither parent showed any interest in this child. However, one used my baby to get out of prison early and one only wants him because the other one supposedly does. Scares me to death because neither one of them will ever be a good parent.
Parental rights should NOT trump a child's well-being. EVER.

Absolutely absurd… failure of cps and a fool of a judge returning a child into the hands of pure evil. These stories absolutely devastate me. This little boy was a mere 21 days older than me, but never had a chance to make it much past two. 😭

I’m so glad that you do this podcast because it brings awareness that there are no agencies in the US that protect and it’s just so sad that so many people in power don’t ever have to face the consequences of what poor little children go through here in the US

Didn't intend to abuse and kill him..dunking a 2 year old head in a toilet, throwing him in freezing shower, hitting him with couch pillows sounds like intent to me. the parents and ms barber should all get life in prison. All the government worker should have been criminally charged and prosecuted that ignored his abuse. She didn't do her job because a child was killed, and there were old bruises and injuries. I have raised 4 kids and all 3 boy were not even potty trained until 3 to 4 ..dunking their head in the toilet was never a thought in my mind.

@Texas Delight, I wish I could give you a million likes for your comment. I 💯% agree that the social workers need to be held accountable also, not paid leave, but jail time and their license should be revoked. My heart goes out to the foster parents, I hope and pray they can eventually heal from this trauma that was so preventable.

A baby his age would likely have some curiosity about his genitals and would certainly have accidents. It's definitely not something worth punishing for and for sure not like that. Poor little mouse. Rest well, Brad.
