I sent this to Next Level Games, told them they should see this, and I guess one of their reps responded to me, and then provided a message from Chad York. "No, I hadn't seen that. Thanks!! Fun to hear that one as a solo piano on an upright. That's how we talked about it when we were creating it. "let's create a fun old ragtime tune but with an LM2 twist on the instruments!" He could even make up entire melodies off the top of his head. I have a few videos of him doing just that, as do one or two other TH-camrs. Here's one of my earliest videos of him making up stuff: th-cam.com/video/p56lCmsYnbI/w-d-xo.html
Its called improvisation us musicians have been doing it for longer than you can imagine you just sinply play what you feel goes with the flow of the piece.
Yes, I forgot to mention durians before. Got 'em all. Went to a couple Japanese towns on Sunday (their time) and got the special Tanabata item (the American and European versions of the game don't celebrate Tanabata), which is in my house now. It's bamboo with a bunch of tanzaku tied to it which you can read. Funnily enough, the localization group did translate all the Tanabata-related text; they just decided not to include it in our version of the game.
I was giggling the whole time when he was improvising … man this was well worth the wait! So great hearing this like actual music, and not just a game tune.
I was listening to one of those playlists that TH-cam makes the you listen to a music youtube channel a lot. I was wondering what tune would come next and when I heard this, at first I couldn't believe it, but then I looked a the title and it was true! Luigi's mansion is my favourite game ever, and I always loved it's soundtrack. Listening to this version of the victory theme is awesome!! Thank you !
I haven't, though I do have a basic transcription to work from. The piece, I think, is quite similar to K.K. Country in Animal Crossing, so maybe a fusion score is in order...
Cool! I just completed Luigi's Mansion 2, and that tune always sounded like it needed some serious filling out. Tom does a great job of it as usual. I am about to open my copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and I hear there's some good music in that too.
Yeah, they want to hear everyone play the game's track ONLY the way the game plays it. It's understandable, I'd come across Tom's videos when they were first uploaded years back (like the Super Mario World Athletic Theme), and just never got into them because I personally thought it was only acceptable to hear the tune ONLY as it's played in the game. But once that got boring, since anybody can acquire the skill to play sheet music, I found Tom's videos again and fell in love with them.
This isn't his piano. You can see/hear one of his pianos in Tom's house (he has since gotten another -- a player piano) beginning at 5:52 in video "4THb5cTT6Lk" (name "ViewFinder: Best of the Collectors") from a local TV documentary segment done about him.
Well, all of them: Pears, lychees, lemons, oranges, cherries, peaches, persimmons, apples, coconuts, bananas, bamboo ... did I forget anything? Persimmons and bamboo don't typically arrive for quite some time, but a Japanese player was kind enough to give me them. (The game came out last year there.) Fun fact: The "Re-Tail" shop in Japan is called "R. Parkers". Why? Because "R. Parkers" sounds the same as "Alpacas" when spoken in Japanese phonetics.
I know. What I meant was, many people don't play them like actual music, they just play it exactly like it's heard and imitate what the game does. Tom, however, sees it as just regular music, and plays it like so.
Never heard of that piece, but looking it up, it doesn't seem like a particularly difficult piece (it couldn't be, to be played at that kind of speed). I'm sure it would take a while for him to build it up to the kind of speed people would expect though. If you know of a score or MIDI file I can make a score from...?
I'm playing ACNL as I type this. If you need persimmons, bamboo, or anything, we should exchange codes. Thanks to my meager Japanese ability, I've been able to befriend some Japanese players and get fruit that normally wouldn't be available to newer players!
No disagreement, that's exactly what I was saying. I was just making fun of the other point of view a bit, because that was the way I used to think. ;)
Well, with classical music, even if you follow the music exactly, there's still many different ways you can play it. There is no "definite way" other than what the composer wrote, which is a vague blueprint. Meanwhile, let's take Koji Kondo's Mario theme. While in-game it's played one way, he performs it differently. Not to mention, he's made entirely different arrangements in later Mario games. Hard to say what's the "definite version" when even the composer doesn't have one.
Having no luck. Tried asking the person that got it from another person to let me have it, but I didn't see that they have not been on the site where they uploaded for over 2 years. So other than the video that has the sheets on the video and the Synthesia video on it I don't have anything to give. here they are - /watch?v=hSfRGcx_xGY and the synthesia - /watch?v=U68DFIGB6r0 Don't know if that would help, but that's all i got.
I don't think that's exactly up his alley. He plays ragtime music primarily. If the music happens to be from a video game, he'll play it and have some fun with it. A good Pokémon tune would be the Bicycle theme from Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal. (The one from Red/Blue/Yellow would be a good one, too, actually…)
I received a comment in response when I expressed how I liked Tom's version of the Zelda Ending theme over Martin Leung's. One guy replied and said while he likes Tom's improvisations, he "prefers hearing the original." (Someone playing it exactly as you hear it in the game isn't 'the original,' it's merely someone imitating 'the original') Besides… as if "the original" is the "definite" and thus ONLY acceptable version.
I think you should also add “Luigi’s Mansion 3” to the title since they ended up re-using that theme from the previous game: th-cam.com/video/bOb8qo-bjUc/w-d-xo.html
Yes, but it was first heard in the second game. It will likely be used in later games… hence we'll still refer to it as the Luigi's Mansion 2 Level Clear theme. Super Mario World's Athletic theme was reused in many more games, but we don't refer to it as the "Athletic theme from Super Mario World, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Maker"

That's really cool you got a reply. Kind of interesting they created a ragtime tune without actually transposing / playing it in a ragtime format!

Here after the Luigi's Mansion 2 HD re-release. I hear all the variants that Tom made of this in my head every time I clear a mission.

Wow, nostalgia. I remember you saying that at Martin Leung's video. I suppose that makes you famous...
This scares me that it said it was posted 10 years ago, which means it was only filmed in 2013. That genuinely horrifies me
Lol if you gave him the music to the character select theme from super smash bros for the n64. He'd get a true "Infinite loop"
That would be neat, there's already a Martin Leung transcription, too. I don't know if it's exactly something that Tom would do though.
