    I went on a 4 day bender recently and blacked out all 4 days. I’ve had the worst dizzy feeling for the last week. I went to the hospital after watching your videos as I was worried I was going to have delirium and when I got there they basically told me my liver enzymes were perfect, perfect blood pressure, oxygen, etc. I know if I continue I’ll end up having experiences like you have and I never want to get that far. I really appreciate the work you’re doing, it’s helping me everyday.

    I went to a 28 day rehab. I got a lot out of it and made some friends for life. It may not have been 100% necessary but tbh it gave me a huge leg up and also reassured my family and meant the trust regained much quicker. Stayed sober ever since but again can’t say I wouldn’t have done without the rehab. The rehab just made it a damn sight easier.

    How you doing? We’re missing you. I had one rehab, 30 days. It was pretty posh, had my own room, own bathroom. Fabulous chefs with great menus. Only 24 beds Great staff. Lucky me, my psychiatrist got me in the right place. AA was prominent but Rational Recovery was discussed. 6 months of aftercare, I took it serious. 1986. Still sober. The most important thing for me was to help others. Daily reviews of myself. Daily gratitude lists. Daily “support reading”. Big Book. Other reading on sobriety. Daily good deeds. Very grateful. ❤❤. We don’t have to live in drunk.

    Rehab was a nightmare for me in the beginning. I was court ordered 90-days in patient rehab. Well, initially I had called them and inquired about going, then I got into trouble and that pretty much made me go. Anyway, before I went I spent a week in detox, then I was taken to rehab.
    The rehab I went to is located in a beautiful location. It was surrounded by a forest, and had a creek running directly beside the facility. The first few weeks I didn't care about that scenery, or anything else for that matter. I was literally freaking out trying to learn how it feels to be sober, haha it was hard at first. But, they had great classes, and activities to keep us occupied AA, and NA meetings daily (except Sunday) and like you said, THE FOOD was Awesome! Now, mind you I'm Native American and this was a Native American Rehab, needless to say they know how to cook some good dishes. I must have eaten more there in those 3 months, than I had in the previous 5 years combined!
    I completed the 90 days, returned home and relapsed (I know right!) I went on a 1 month binge, then I picked myself up, called the Rehab and voluntarily checked myself in for 6-months!
    I met a lot of interesting people in rehab, some in which I still keep in contact. The counselors, and staff were nice, some could be demanding but that's how it goes. I learned a lot about myself in those 9 months, I grew up a lot in those 9 months. And, I can confirm that Rehab helped save my life, it was part of the foundation I have today. I know God put me there for a reason.

      @@DeliriumTremensScaredSober Yes, that is a miracle brother. No other way of putting it. I've been following you for quite a while now, and I admire your courage to share your testament --Maybe I will have that same amount of too courage one day, God Willing.
      There are only a handful of stories like yours, and like mine on TH-cam. And I think that's because people are afraid to talk about it, or don't want to be ashamed, called crazy OR THEY DIED. But, what you're doing is helping the problem. No doubt about it. I need to get in gear and jump in the fight-- share my story-- I've been in autopilot for too long. Anyway, I'm done ranting lol, thanks for the inspiration Dirk, I've said it before and I'll say it again, your videos have helped me, servingas a deterrent to ever going back to that liquid fueled, self made Hell which is drinking. I've struggled with Alcoholism a good portion of my life due to stress or in general after taking that one or two drinks to ignite the urge to keep drinking. For me personally the key is just to avoid the first drink. Will power and avoiding people places and things that trigger the behavior.

      EXACTLY!!!
      For decades, I never knew what they meant when they said "It's the First Drink that gets me Drunk". But now I know that once I put ANY AT ALL in my body, I turn on this monster that can't be stopped unless I'm arrested, hospitalized or dead.

    Rehab saved my life but it took a couple of attempts. Life is good today, I'm slowly getting back what I lost and more. Cirrhosis is stable. All is good. My problem is I'm now addicted to eating, food is not fucking safe around me and am putting so much weight on its becoming unhealthy. But hey ho we can't have it all.
    You OK Dirk? I'm not picking up your usual vibes. Sending love as always x

    I went to the VA hospital for a hurt foot but when I was in there I started going through withdrawals. They x-rayed my foot and said it was just a sprain. However, they wouldn't let me leave for 3 days to detox me. I wasn't happy about it but they were great. I haven't had a drink since

    Hey brother I don't have a way to send you a direct message but I need to reach out. Have you ever met somebody with hyperchondriac tendencies that are worried about withdrawal? Would you ever tell anybody you're not that bad or would the rule of thumb be "if you're worried, it's probably gonna be bad". I'm starting the journey for the nth time and I'm scared, but don't know I should be. I've hallucinated but never seized, even tho I've only ever had a bottle a day for a few weeks at most. Thanks again. Your vids are important.

      @DeliriumTremensScaredSober  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worry, man!
      Now, I'm not a doctor. Being said, it sounds like you may be overthinking it. If you stay hydrated, eat & sleep some you are most likely going to be ok. Uncomfortable? Oh, fuck yea, we ALL go thru that. But full blown DT's? Doubtful. They only affect about 3-5% of all (REAL!) alcoholics. Or about 250,000 US annually. It's alot, but is still a small percentage.
      The MOST important thing is that you know you have an issue and are willing to DO something about it. Great! Just remember, don't quit QUITTING! Relaps is not required...but it does happen. Last and most important- it's ONLY a 24 hour program! That's it. Then, we do it again for the next 24 hours. So on & so fourth.
      Please keep me posted as to your progress! Let me know what I can do to help?
      Thanks so much,
      Dirk:)👍👍👍

      It means the world thank you. I'm more concerned for my heart than dts. I have some sort of heart condition and withdrawal makes me vulnerable to palpitations that keep me up making me feel like I might die. If it wasn't for that I'd be significantly less frightened. But I will keep extra hydrated and keep you posted. Thanks again, Zach.

    A proper detox is for EVERYBODY, but Rehab isn't. Sadly. The forever question is to find out WHAT is it that makes us want to quit completely? I've been to two inpatient rehabs, both that were run by overinflated, egotistical, elitist individuals wanting those dollar bills. My last one almost ended in a fist fight with a very dramatic staff member proclaiming I wasn't following "their" road of rules. And boy, does it fucking add up. It also puts a pay check in their pocket - hence the aggressive delivery & persistence by some of the operators of the company. Everybody's sobriety path has different terrain on it. We all aim for the end result of remaining sober at the end of the night. If it differs from someone else's - so be it. The simple fact of the "rehab industry" being so massive shows that it will cost you an arm and a leg if you want to try a different approach to getting sober. Mine is spirituality & concerning myself WITH MYSELF. A relapse happened but I have been sober for over a year. Keep the videos coming, Dirk! Love to hear your thoughts & input as a seasoned veteran.

    • @DeliriumTremensScaredSober
      @DeliriumTremensScaredSober  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude...
      You hit SO many valid points and we could have kept the list going. I've been in a FEW of those 'Rehabs', and it didn't do ANYTHING for me to help in my Recovery. In fact, I used those as a perfectly 'reasonable' excuse to get fucked up. Either at discharge or I'd just leave AMA.
      At the end, I was in shit hole State run detoxes...and that's when I FINALLY got sober.
      Isn't that a trip.
      But, for some people, Rehabs DO work. They just didn't work for cats like us.
      Oh! This is funny... I did get kicked out of this REALLY bad one I was in about 25 years ago. This guy wouldn't shut up, so I asked him politely to 'shut your fucking cocksucker'. Yes, that's what I said:) Anyway, he DOVE over a lunch table, and it was ON! God, that makes me laugh today...😅
      But the 'Bottom Line' is really this- We will NOT be done until we are finally defeated and our options are simple. Stop or die. For me, it's just that real.
      So yea...what an awesome comment!!! Thank you so very much for your positive feedback and support:)
      Dirk:)👍👍👍
