    OSB is amazing, I made an outdoor step(just piece of osb screwed to 2x6 box frame) leading into my shed. It isn't sheltered from the weather in any way...snow, sleet, rain, ice and/or blazing sun. That was 14yrs ago! Its still going strong. Great shelf build, thanks for sharing! 2:24

    not only was this a thorough and well explained video, the reason I am here is bc I've moved into a house with the EXACT kitchen layout you used in the example 😅 Unfortunately the previous builders chose to go with curved shelve ( similar to the lazy susan but without any rotation option) so I'm pretty stuffed when it comes to storage space 😭😭😭 Nevertheless this video has provide me with helpful information that I can arm myself with when dealing with cabinet makers in the future! Thank you so much!

    It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

    That dead space is something I first noticed and found odd when I was like 3years old. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention. Im going to try bifolding doors there. That'll be one of my signature selling points. I also don't like sharp 90° corners on islands. A kid might hurt themselves or maybe even to a couple fighting or an old person slipping down that just looks like an involuntarily murderous weapon. Btw, nice art work 🙂

    In my small kitchen, I just left the corners empty and put drawers on each side. The drawers are much more efficient, so for me, it was the answer. Later, I will access one of the corners from the bathroom (when I get to that project). The other corner I might make an electric lift for a larger machine.

    • @arealassassin
      @arealassassin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am of the opinion that; if you don't want to stack and reach into the far back, a lazy susan IS the way to go. The presenter over-dramatized the downfalls- 1) the location of the pivot point is variable, and dictates the radius of the susan. 2) any normal person will stack items that are used infrequently around the edges, so utilizing that space, and 3) his point about height restriction is simply baloney- the susan swings out into the clear- and items can be dropped straight down, no need to clear the rail.

    I'm now wondering - and hear me out 😆- about a _lift-up corner section of worktop_ concealing roll-out metal basket shelving on a (pneumatic?) sprung hinge system that lifts shelving for full access (a little bit like a sofabed). The lowest shelf housing things accessed less often so it doesn't always need to be lifted to full height. Pick out what you need and close the 'lid' again. Make it easy access by only storing large appliances on that part of the worktop on a tray - like a breadmaker so you can still use the countertop freely.
    But I'm neither an engineer, nor a kitchen designer... 😉

    • @helmreichenterprises8391
      @helmreichenterprises8391  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's funny how so many can chase some complex and expensive method of getting to the last bit of the corner, and waste half of the space and access to achieve it. 😅

    • @realityandnaturepill
      @realityandnaturepill 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This actually exists, the Qanto from Häfele, and as helmreichen states you lose about half the space for the mechanism. Additionally you get to spend 4000 dollars on a single corner, touch a button for 20 seconds to get access to the bottom shelf, not being abe to have wall cabinets above and a countertop that's visiually seperated.

    • @realityandnaturepill
      @realityandnaturepill 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@helmreichenterprises8391
      There are two types of magic corners now;
      The one you show loses almost no space (theoretically...they make the second set of baskets too small) but you don't get easy access to the second part.
      Then there is one where the first part rotates or slides out of the way completely and the second part is a set of drawers. Easy access however you lose a lot of space in the corner, about 20-40 cm.
      I think there are two solutions, one for each.
      System one; just buy the mechanism of the second option, so the door slides or rotates out of the way completely, then attach planks or baskets to the mechanism that just fit in the cabinet (no drawers, just like the magic corner you showed)...still easy access and you lose no space at all.
      System two; the mechanism itself is great, you just lose a bit of space next to the set of drawers. You can attach planks or baskets to the mechanism next to the set of drawers (don't attach to a rail/sliding mechanism), ideally make these planks a bit higher than the drawers for easier access.

      @@helmreichenterprises8391 Hi Michael, thanks for your reply which I've only just spotted when reading @realityandnaturepill's. I think my rather complex wondering (!) comes from living in a minuscule cottage kitchen, and now having to accommodate my elderly father who is losing his eyesight and has broken his hip. 🥴
      He kind of needs to see things right under his nose or they don't exist for him, so I'm continually searching for innovations that help him to remain independent. He has a hardwood coffee table, with a similar robust pneumatic contraption inside which he finds very helpful so it's what made me wonder if the same principle could be applied in the kitchen.

    • @221b-Maker-Street
      @221b-Maker-Street 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@realityandnaturepill Thank you for this information. I took a look at the Qanto - I wasn't thinking of something anywhere near this sophisticated, nor electric, or that rises vertically like a lift, actually. More a simpler manual pneumatic mechanism that rises up and forward. I also hadn't pictured something that would impinge on any cupboards above.
      I don't really mind about the break in line in the worktop, though I know that would bother some people...

      I have been installing kitchens since 1982, and yeah, they ain't square, but I usually design in some points of 'slippage' in the whole layout.
      Things like dishwasher openings are a great place to allow some give.
      Bench tops especially long ones with long returns are even more problematic.

    My solution is to just put a big sink in the corner. You lose a lot of space under the sink anyways and usually just keep cleaning products underneath.

    • @helmreichenterprises8391
      @helmreichenterprises8391  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of my customers like the sink in front of the window, which is usually away from the corner.
      But I agree, plumbing wastes a lot of space, and it may as well be in the corner.

    after all that my feeling is that corners suck, realy not worth making a corner unit better off leaving the corner dead and butting two opposing cabinets.

    • @helmreichenterprises8391
      @helmreichenterprises8391  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That can often be a good solution.
      But most times if you can give reasonable access, the space can be useful.

    I found this very tedious to watch. We went from talking about corner cabinets to talking about walk-in pantries. And the pencil lines were so faint and hard to make out. In my previous home I had a cabinet with a lazy Susan and I think that's the way to go. We stacked cans in the corners and made good use of the space.

    • @helmreichenterprises8391

    Hmmm. Am i stupid because i think ur idea is the poorest of those all. I think u should mention that it has to crawl to the space, not walk. I think there is majority of people who rather just choose lazy susan than any of those "crawl in" kitchen cabinets. Beside u lose tons of space when u leave crawling space there... But hey it just my thought

    • @helmreichenterprises8391
      @helmreichenterprises8391  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to crawl into shelves, so I agree with that, but also true is that the moment you try to use fancy fittings to give you access to the corner, you lose so much volume that you may as well blank off the space.
      This simple shelf idea gives the largest available storage volume, although it is still a shelf.
      Like I said in the beginning "The problem with corners, is that corners are a problem" ;)

    You make some interesting points, and we learned a trick or two watching your video. One thing I'll give back to you is to treat yourself to a 3DConnexion Space Navigator. Your movement about the model at the end looked pretty clunky. A Space Mouse lets you move about with smooth fluid movements. I use one mostly with SketchUp, and love it.
