I love steam locomotives. There's nothing like hearing a powerful steam engine thundering down the tracks or the gentle noise of shunting with slow chuffing and bumping of buffers
Can you explain how this was produced? Single sound samples from train operation? Loops of sounds layered and mixed? Or synthesized sounds? What about timing? Would love to learn.
Hi - sorry for the long delay in my reply! I started with a long clip from a ride I took. One recording with many things going on in it - so not a lot of control. I cut out the loud sounds. It ended up as shorter segments that I then looped. I put a short clip under the main track when the clips met - to blend the transition. I built up it up to a segment that I knew had no loud sounds, then repeated it for the 10 hours. The goal was to be sure there were no startle sounds in case someone fell to sleep listening. Thanks!
Railfan here too. I’ll put another one up with those sounds in the future. I think a lot of folks like the no-startle aspect for whitenoise. Thanks for letting me know.
I ran a night steam train with sleeper cars on it in real life. When I had to blow the whistle for a crossing,I gently pulled the cord out slowly,so people wouldn’t be startled by it.They said it worked perfectly and it was nice to listen to the whistle a couple cars up.It might work well in one of these too.

Agree - like a living thing
Thanks! My drama class is doing a play where a scene takes place on top of a train and we needed the sound to make it realistic, this is very helpful!
That is so fun! Glad to hear. Hope it went well.
best Steam locomotive sound-scape ive ever heard!
Thanks!
@@LeavesSkyWater please friend, what’s the difference between this and the other one with black screen ? Seems to be a little bit more loudly ?
I always love to ride the train and hear the sound of steam locomotive chuffing and sound of the car’s wheels ❤️🚂
Same! Thanks for your note.

I really love this! Relaxing steamtrain! Use it every night now! Is it weird I fall asleep to this?
Exact purpose - so glad it works!
Love this!
Thanks, tim wilson!
Thank you
Can you do a dark screen version please? The sound is perfect but I'm worried about screen burn x
