I'm brand new to Avada, and when I edit a page in the backend and click the Live Builder button, it navigates me to the front end, but only the main navigation bar and footer are displayed. No content or controls appear. Any ideas?

Perhaps, for a newbie like me, you could break up the tutorial into segments or "lessons" that would allow more examples of choices that are offered in the Avada editor. For me it was hard to follow which are containers, columns or elements in the layout that you were manipulating. Thank you, again.

Yes! A previous developer had added a function that moves the scripts from the head to the footer which is what broke the live builder.
