Z Fold 5 exists because it's better than the Z Fold 4. There is a new model Honda Civic every year but they don't always have a game changing feature either.

I've been enjoying my Fold 5 an absurd amount. I thought it would take a bit to get used to, but it felt really good and natural right off the rip. It's so nice to have the split view and even just media has been sooooo awesome. I'm also an enjoyer of the slimmer front. When I need to do some stuff and want to quickly one-hand something, I've never had an issue even with typing. I could understand for someone with bigger hands preferring the passport of the pixel fold style, but I personally love the profile of the Fold 5. The phone is so worth it if you can get it on a discount w/ trade in. I still think I should contact Samsung and ask to swap to the icy blue. It's extremely nice in person. Thanks again, enabling me to purchase things and putting out an enjoyable video!
Fold 5's crease is absolutely better than the 4's. The hinge is buttery smooth and silent, unlike the 4. The sustained performance of the SOC is improved as is the battery life over the 4. The screens are much brighter and more comfortable to be used in bright sunlight. The lack of a gap and the thinness that comes with that are absolutely noticeable, as is the reduction in weight. So many small refinements made going from the 4 to the 5 a choice I don't regret at all. Bonus: I traded in a Flip I bought for $300 for $900 trade-in credit, sold a pair of Buds2 Pro for $110 that came with the Fold 5, and sold my Fold 4 for $1,200. I was able to go from a 4 to a 5 for about $500 CAD out of pocket. No brainer.
Just some practical comments from a user. Coming from a Apple 13 pro. Here are the great advantages that are relatively not spoken of. For those of us who still know how to read, it is the equivalent of having a Kindle in your pocket. I read all the time on the phone and I have a couple of hundred books in my Kindle library. Another practical thing is the front screen is great, I have about 20 apps on that screen stacked from the top plus a Google widget at the bottom and I rarely have to go to the inner screen unless I'm going to use the Kindle or I'm going to watch a film. The phone is actually easier to hold when it's narrow and when you open it you can still hold the entire open phone with one hand. The crease is a non-existent issue it is like a yellow line on the highway, after a little bit you don't ever notice it unless someone points it out. These are just simple practical things that make this definitely worthwhile and I got rid of my 12.9 pro iPad and my Apple 13 pro and find this phone excellent.
As a Flip5 user that came from a Flip3, the difference in brighness outdoors is NUTS, I've never had a screen go this bright and it's so easy to see outside, I love it :D
Tried the Fold 3 and was meh about it. Loved my S22U. Decided to give Fold 5 a try. I'm absolutely loving it!!! Front screen isn't an issue at all (shoot, I've used iPhones that were this wide; heck, 3 thru 8 I believe are this wide). It's absolutely usable and great for one handed use. Crease isn't an issue; I rarely notice it. I am hoping next year Sammy will make the 6 a little wider - just wide enough to have the S-Pen inside. The display is amazing and I've caught myself using the tablet less than usual for content consumption. The Fold is a great device for sure!
Am I the only one that likes the aspect ratio of tall screens? I often use my fold to read magazines, books, and pdfs, a lot more than watching videos (I use my tv/computer for that). Wide only makes sense to people who like to enjoy more video content on their phone I guess.
$1800 is not expensive for a folding phone. $1800 for tickets to see Taylor Swift in concert is enough reason to have ANYONE committed to a brain 🧠 probe for science!
I bought into the hype that the Fold is suppose to replace your phone and tablet into one device. After a while, I noticed I used the front cover screen 80% of the time and I barely even opened the Fold at times. I kinda realized after that experience that I prefer having multiple devices over merging a couple of them together.
After using the z fold 5 for a week now, the crease is not really noticeable when you use it. If you're in the store staring at the crease on a demo unit, that's not really how it's going to look when you're actually using the phone on a day-to-day basis
The list price is 1800 but it doesn’t really cost that much Wait for black Friday and you can get the newest Galaxy Fold for around $1500 Wait for black Friday and buy the newest S Ultra, you can get that for around $850 and then next year trade it in for the fold for $1000 off. Combine both of those deals together, a year of the latest S Ultra followed by getting the newest Z Fold is potentially as low as $850(lowest price to outright buy S22 Ultra last Black Friday)+$450 (lowest price after trade-in for Fold 4 last black Friday). $1300, you end up with a Z Fold next year and the newest non-fold this year
What about for $800, with a free storage upgrade, another $120 off if you get a basic color, and a 40% off coupon to the accessories store? Sure doesn't sound too bad to me.
my tab s8 has become my desktop with dex. sold my galaxy book 3 cuz of that. the Tab S8 does everything i need a computer to do and it fits very well into my setup. last tablets did collect dust but since i got my new one, i wouldn't wanna be without it anymore.
I dig the narrow screen, I looked past the weight, I wasn't afraid it would break apart and I carried my Fold 3 without a case since it's width made it easier to hold. I even liked taking care of dust and dirt particles stuck inside the inner screen bezel with a soft brush. The one thing that made me sell it was the anxiety of the inner display cracking in the middle by itself, as it started doing during the first year where it got a free replacement. I just couldn't enjoy it knowing it will someday soon stop working. Sold it, got an S23 and I'm sure I'll come back to a Foldable in another 2-3 years.
I was never interested or own a fold till now. After I sold my Note 20U, I was mostly using an iPhone 13 mini. The one hand experience on the mini made me wonder if that long narrow front screen on the zf5 was intentional. Bear in mind, zf5 width is even wider than the mini, if I can use a mini, how bad can a narrow zf5 be right? So I bought a zf5, max out the ssd since it was on promo. Turns out, it was a great decision. I am enjoying the zf5 very much. Front screen for quick msg, info browsing and calls, main screen for content viewing, multi-tasking and other tasks requiring larger real estate. If one complaint that the front screen is too narrow, and get a pixel fold, I think they are better off saving money for a normal phone than a fold. Likely they will just use the front screen only. And so, design speaks.
Nobody is ever going to convince me on the Samsung folds, only due to the aspect ratio. I hate the narrow tall front screen, and due to that the inner screen is too narrow and tall too. The pixel fold is the perfect size like a passport. Shorter but wider, and the inner screen due to that is more of a tablet experience and better for consuming content, at least for me. I hope to have a folding device one day.
Carrying both right now (23U and ZF5) and, quite frankly, leaning towards the 23U for various reasons.. That outer screen on the go is ehh..(but I suppose that's intentional by Samsung), the lack of dust resistance, having to kinda baby the device, not much in the way of mounting it in my vehicle, pocketability (suit) isn't the best especially if you carry two devices (my primary is the iPhone 13 Pro Max at least until Android can figure out an Apple watch ultra equivalent..no, the galaxy watch 6 ain't even close.. ) etc are favoring the 23U for me.. As a media device, the Fold is amazing and absolutely love the taskbar! I really wanna like the Fold 5...just struggling to justify it over the 23 ultra right now..
I still believe getting flip 5 with s9 plus tablet is a cheaper and better deal than getting fold 5 alone . I would not want to carry fold 5 to the gym or anywhere for that matter where i need to keep it in my pockets . So having the freedom to consume media at home or outside on the s9 plus tablet and carrying the flip 5 in my pocket when traveling is a very versatile option i would prefer over fold 5 alone .

I think this form factor in foldables would become obsolete very fast, like in just two or three years with more innovations in hinge mechanisms particularly for inverted fold, so that there are two folds in a foldable with one conventional fold and one inverted, one won't need second display, samsung has already made concepts of it, but some fine tunings are required, but it would have era of its own once commercialised.

The Fold series is starting to make sense to me. It's a sacrifice in durability I'm not willing to make, but there is objective utility in being able to open it up and split-screen multiple apps. I too have never really been much of a tablet user - it's a pointless middle-ground for me between phone and laptop/desktop. I don't think I'd really benefit from the Fold's multi-tasking capabilities to the point that I want to deal with the quirks of the form-factor (I didn't like flip phones back in the day for many of the same reasons - give me a tightly packed, rigid slab where I can get to the full experience with one hand right away). But, again, I can see that it's actually adding something of value. I'm a lot more skeptical of the value of the Flip series, but whatever, people are buying them so I'll just let people enjoy the things they like.
Part of me feels like Samsung won't change the design simply because they can charge the same and generally use most of the same components. Much like cars, if the bones still have appeal, why change it. . The Flip 5 was probably the biggest shift but I also wish they innovated more outside of just a better cover display.

The Z Fold series is impressive as you're getting a powerful smartphone and a mini tablet in 1 device. Personally I'm waiting for Apple to make one to see if it's worth it over a standard iPhone. But about double that for foldables... 🤷♂ I think when Apple has their foldable smartphone to compete with the Z Fold series, maybe we'll see prices become more affordable and features be more enticing.
Actually.. the aspect ratio and ofcourse the money that are holding me back to buy this phone.. the Oppo Find N2 aspect ratio is a lot more logical to me..

I never ever going to buy a Samsung Foldable Phone. I just think It doesn't look nice and I don't even don't like that it's thicker than the Current Galaxy S series phone when folded.
Add to the fact that there are already folding phones with more wider and usable outer screens like the pixel fold, and thinner bodies like the Mi mix fold, doesn't help Samsung's case

Cant go back to a regular phone again. If people stop worrying about dumb imessage and eco system they dont know what they missing. ❤❤❤ was an iphone 1 thru 13 user. Never going back. Maybe if xiaomi mix fold 3 gets a global version
Probably because the Z Fold 4 is a year old I think
Curious how many people actually are buying these new phones... my S22 feels new to me all the time. Reply underneath with your phone …
Because Samsung released it?
Nah they gotta improve their services

Not paying 2k for a phone😂😂
Samsung has the worst customer service. I am done with Samsung foldables! Absoultuet GARBGE!
すいちゃん!
Nuh uh
I never ever going to buy a Samsung Foldable Phone. I just think It doesn't look nice and I don't even don't like that it's thicker than the Current Galaxy S series phone when folded.
Add to the fact that there are already folding phones with more wider and usable outer screens like the pixel fold, and thinner bodies like the Mi mix fold, doesn't help Samsung's case
