EdMylett thanks. As a topic suggestion, I am sure you have found that being a better listener to others helps you listen to your authentic self. When facing a tough decision or taking action in the face of uncertainty, how does practicing the act of listening to others, help you find the strength or courage you need to live more authentically? Virgil said “fortune favors the bold” and Samuel Mockbee said “proceed and be bold” maybe the root of that boldness is a quiet calm that has been cultivated through the act of “listening until the other person has finished talking, then responding thoughtfully.” Ed Mylett said that last one.

In my business I have to be very intentional about listening to understand and not listening to give my response.
In general, Mirroring energy is where I struggle the most. Especially with really quiet people that do not show outward emotion.
I was playing golf with a guy recently and I holed out for eagle from the Fairway on the very first hole. I was going nuts, and I would have expected my playing partner to react the same, but he didn't even say Nice Shot or a fist bump or any emotion he just put his head down kept walking.. the entire front nine was a one-way conversation of me asking questions or making statements and getting little to no reply. On the back nine I was getting a little frustrated and thought he must not like me so I won't give him any more of my energy. I kept my mouth shut and neither one of us said a word for about 5 holes. It was brutal! Then on the 15th hole he ask me a question, and a follow-up question...and another.... after the round he said he had a great time and couldn't wait to play again! It wasn't until I started mirroring his energy that he felt comfortable.

Few weeks ago it occurred to me that I was being a major douche to my wife. I did a fantastic job confessing it and apologizing and assuring her that I was going to try to do much better. I thought I killed it on the apology and we could move on. Nope. She needed to express how she felt about it. Even though she was pretty much restating what I had just said, she needed needed to go over it with me from her point of view. It was wicked difficult to keep my mouth shut and not defend myself. Super hard to look in her eyes and not say anything while staying interested in her speaking with my body language. It was a pivotal moment in our relationship. I know it's difficult but if people could just listen to each other better it would save marriages for sure.

One of my pet peeves in gathering is I'm having a pleasant exchange with someone, and another person walk up, cuts in the conversation with something else - always non-emergent- and that's the end of the first conversation. In fact, I quietly walk away, and neither of them notices. When an interruption happens in business, ie; at the conference table, I let the 'intruder' finish...and I continue with: "....as I was saying..." and pick up where I left off. The only time there are never interruptions in conversations is in movies, television and radio - why? Because the conversations are scripted! The greatest joy I receive is from listening - folks share very personal things sometimes - especially when I'm writing a feature article. The other thing I grant when I'm listening is tending to the speakers' trust via empathy. Mr. Mylett is one of my all time faves! He's always right!

I recently changed how I administer advise , and have taken to only speaking of things that I know from my own experience , in hope that others would see and hear the truth and sincerity and not ever feel like I'm just pointing or waiving a finger at them , so to speak. It has not been going so well. It has been brought to my attention that I talk about myself too often etc. my thing is, I and my personal experience , my testimony is truly all I have to offer. My brother Ed. Thank you once again for this amazing content! I have noticed a huge change in myself when I listen to people & then when it's my turn to speak. I used to be the type of person that would let them speak & interrupt them wheb we're conversing. However, now that I have been watching & listening to you! You have helped me become a better listener during a conversation & then I speak when I am able to. I even do repeat back what they say so that let's them know that I truly am engaged with them. I also thank them for opening up & sharing whatever it is that they want to tell me. Just yesterday when I went to get some lunch, I prospected the lady that helped me. I then followed up with her over the phone & she opened up to me about her personal life. I then repeated what she had told me & then I made her feel good about herself with a compliment. I have an appointment with her next Monday. But that just goes to show how much I have changed as an individual & as a listener during a conversation. I do need to ask more open ended questions, that I will say. Brother Ed, thank you again sir. Phenomenal job! By the way, if I had a 3 hour plane ride with you, I would be asking you as many questions as possible & then soak up your wisdom like a sponge. I definitely wouldn't be talking about myself unless you asked me to tell you a little bit about myself! Just saying. “People just want to be heard.” So good! That phrase was the greatest point when I trained new hires in customer service. Asking questions and non-verbal communication are great, too, Ed! On the flip side, I tend to finish sentences and offer word selections, which is terrible! I have GOT to do better with this. Also, I would be multi-tasking while my hubs was talking to me. He often would ask me, “can you just stop and look at me?”😬 Ouch! I’m learning to stop being busy and just give my undivided attention to my hubs when he is talking-he has noticed! As I switch careers, this is such a tremendous teaching with so much value, that I can move to my new niche. And this was TOTAL motivational Ed!! Thank you!!

Just moved out from a bad relationship of 4 years today, and while I’m getting organized I thought I’d listen to “Ed Mylett”. Everyone at WFG has been talking about this guy. I watched the 9year old WFG talk first. Then I watched the video about closing. Then I watched this one and he told me to comment, so I am. Hello, I’d love to be lucky enough to have a training call with you one day so I can truly learn how to WIN in WFG. I have big goals, need to be big enough to give money away. Coach able and willing to listen.

I think this was one of the MOST motivating videos I have seen by you. And here's why: you are humble, present, and LISTENING, while you are coaching us to get inspired to become more of our best selves through listening to others deeply and thus serving them and us! They get to be heard and learn about themselves, and we get to learn about their gifts. People are presents that are meant to be open by listening to them: that alone made me feel heard by you. Again, just gold.

Yes! I love this topic. Fortunately it’s one of my super powers but I still have much work to do. Nobody is ever perfect.
I have trained for acting for 8-9 years to be an expert listener, to truthfully connect, to respond truthfully in the moment.
When you clarify what you heard then, as jim Kwik says, you are learning to teach.
Body posturing is more telling than someone’s words. It tells the truth. Someone with closed arms saying they “love you” is telling you they don’t love you; or are mad at you. #maxout
I would have driven you crazy by asking questions...ha ha...it’s because I am comfortable with myself...He wasted that time...3 hours?! Oh man...@edmylet when we listen and respond truthfully we can heal ourselves and others...most people just want to be heard...to be understood...
Finally...waiting for your turn to speak is not listening. It’s not hearing. It’s deflecting.

Body language, I cross my arms often coz I don’t always know where to leave them.
Not being fully present, I tend to already form a reply in my head when they are still talking
Asking questions, when it is a silent person ( like me) I don’t always know what to ask to keep the conversation going.
So lot to work on. Thanks again. I love your conversations with your guests.

If i had 3 hours with you on a flight...I would tape my mouth. Let me give you few ideas for future talks. I realized its very important to finish things: we start many things with enthusiasm but to finish is hard. Teach people how to finish what they started. Second idea: think about to film your own movie. You have so many topics and powerful points. Books are great, seminars fantastic, but movie connects with people via emotion. It may come in time, but it can reach much more people and talk to generations. I truly believe you are close to art than you think. Art to being #maxout. Your Raimis
