Hi, for those who had the same problem as me (installed mount on wall and then couldn't seem to remove it (had someone install without feeding the plug through and then clicked the panel in place), all you do is give it a firm whack from the bottom upwards (just used the palm of my hand), and it came free, didn't break the clips or anything. So relieved.
I just bought this vacuum for a lot of money. My wife assured me that Dyson is indisputably the best and that we needed this vacuum. Unfortunately someone appears to have skimped on the design of the backing, as the wall mount piece arrived attached to the docking station. There is no way to remove the plastic wall mount from the docking station without brute force, some wedged flathead screwdrivers, and some luck. Thankfully the vacuum came with a quote from James Dyson, the founder of the company: "Our mission is simple. Solve the problems others ignore." In all seriousness, it's troubling to spend so much on a vacuum that arrives with such an obvious problem. Until someone rectifies this, I'd recommend skipping this purchase if you are thinking about it.
Absolutely - what an idiotic design. What moron engineer designed a brittle, hard plastic backing plate that cannot readily be removed from the docking station? And what idiot thought they should assemble the two pieces to ship it to you.
How lucky am I that the Backing for the wall mount came already pieced together now I can’t get the back plate off to mount the dock thanks a Bunch Dyson..
@@dyson I just bought the gen5 oversize and have the same issue. How screwed up is to to spend $1000 on a vacuum only to have to break things to use it as directed?
This is disheartening to hear. Feel free to send us a private message here with your email, address, phone number, serial number of your machine, and a detailed description of the issue you're having.
The hanger and wall mounting plate came combined for me as well. I've managed to disassemble them by some brute force - as suggested by one of the comments here (thanks, by the way) I have used the flathead screwdriver - jammed it right between the wedge on the side of the hanger and UNDER the runner on the side of wall mounting plate and pried the damn thing open, like using a crowbar/lever. Don't worry about breaking it, the material is durable and flexible enough to survive this. Hope it helps someone. However, after reading some other comments and judging by what everyone (myself included) went through to disassemble that piece when it was NOT mounted on the wall, I'm literally scared to do so, as I imagine it would stay there forever. A very poor design for an expensive piece of (other than that - great) gear.
S T, to remove the front casing, slide it upwards to separate it from the backplate. Ensure that the vacuum and tools aren't attached to the dock during this process.
@@dyson This isn't possible. Once you've slid it down and clicked it in place as the instructions show, you can't move it back up. It's locked in. It seems like you'd have to break it. Extremely disappointing for a product I just paid $1400 for.
S T, if you'd like further assistance with this, we'd encourage you to send us a private message on Facebook, or DM us on Instagram or Twitter. We'll then gladly go through this with you in further detail.
Hi, I've noted your issue with the charging base & not being able to remove it from the wall bracket once it's clicked in the down position. It's a poor design. I assembled our components on the bench first to see how everything fitted together (I'm an electrician by trade). I was able to remove the mounting plate by gently prying the base away over the 2 x locking tabs with 2 x screwdrivers. This however would be impossibile if you'd already gone to the trouble of mounting it on the wall & weren't happy with its location or wanted to relocate the mounting bracket in the future. Have you had a reply from Dyson?
@@jasonlightfoot1526 Hi, luckily I also hadn't placed it on the wall yet. I contacted Dyson via Facebook noting the same things you've mentioned about its poor design, and that you wouldn't be able to remove it from a wall once mounted. I asked for an alternative mount, as older models had better mounts that don't have this issue. However, they claimed not to have an alternative mount that fits the Gen5detect, so all they offered was to "repair" the existing mount if I box up the entire vacuum and send it back to them. Not much point in them prying the mount apart if it then has to be fixed to a wall permanently anyway. They claim that if it was fixed to a wall it would be easier to separate the plates - not sure how that logic works lol. Pretty ridiculous considering it's their latest top-of-the-line model.
How is this product so good and so bad at the same time. It cleans very well but the design for the wall mount is so shit. In the instructions the wall mount comes in two piece so does every guide video yet ours and many others in the comments have theirs come already LOCKED in together. Its near impossible to detach it without thinking you're going to break it. "Pushing it from bottom up" does nothing nor is it easy on the hands. Whoever designed the wall mount should be fired because clearly they didnt even fathom the idea that people might change locations of their wall mounts and consider to make that practical into their design. Im just baffled by the how unintuitive this whole thing is.
Yesssss!! Finally I see I’m not alone! I thought I was doing something wrong but clearly 90% of customers are feeling just like me. $900 for a plastic piece of a wall dock that’s almost impossible to set up!! Do better Dyson!

ended up using a clothes steamer for 20 mins to heat it up and then 4 screwdrivers to brute force it apart ... not sure how close I had to come to breaking it, but not a great experience ... 45 mins sorting out how to separate this and 5 minutes to actually install on the wall ... wow Dyson, just wow!
Horrible design that can't be uninstalled.
