God has spoken and has declared the followers of Judaism to be his chosen people. The ones who are offended with that reality need to get over it. As God told Noah, he was not there when God created the universe and does not understand Him. By the way, I am a follower of Catholicism.
Two Jewish students asking questions from a rabbi is not the norm . I am not Jewish so let me ask the rabbi a question. There are 4,800 religions around . Everyone of these religions is claiming to be the true religion. Why do you think that your religion is the one true religion?. After all , no one knows who wrote the Torah and when it was written.
That's a Hard topic!.. When your Asking him ; "MUST" we all share the same values??." ... Even when we do ; there is major complications.. Eg: Should thou not kill or steal??. But yet a homeless child mite steal an apple from the fruiterer because he is so starving.. Would you forgive him!? ( I would ! ) Or out of someone's yard tree as he is hungry.. And a police man mite murder in self defence.. same with natural human instinct of a woman beater or protecting a child .. Self defence of property.. Then we have public vengeance all wanting public execution to murder the murderer . It's a crazy world.. So it's kind of crazy to even answer such a complex question.. .. I think he did well
If the followers of religion only focus on moral value brought by that religion, the world will be definitely safer. But in reality, that is not happening. There are competition among religion and each of them is saying their religion is better thsn others and should control the family, society, states, countries and the world. Because of this phenomena, inevitably emerge a group of followers who are using violents to achieved the objective in the name of their religion. So there is no yes or no answer to question whether religion will bring peace to the world. My personal view is, religion can bring the world a peaceful place if people has only one religion to follow and this is impossible. Probably the most peaceful religion is Buddhism.
No words will persuade me to believe religion is good. In my life I have never met a person who is true to their religion. I don’t need religion to make me a good person. A surviver of the Shoah believed he was talking to god who asked did they tell jokes while in Auschwitz? Yes he said. god said please tell me one, so he did and god said that’s not funny. The man said you needed to be there.

Torah values are deep and full of wisdom. It trumps all values, not to say other groups don't have values.
Jews are not superior, but we have a distinct mission in this world, to be a light unto the nations.
