I feel so stupid now, I wondered what that spring was for. Here I was stopping the trimmer and pulling it out manually. Thank you for taking the time to show me the correct way!!!
THANK YOU!!!!! I’ve watched 10 videos looking for this answer on how to advance the string. Finally!! It’s not something everyone knows and I greatly appreciate that you taught us. Seems intuitive, but not to everyone. 🤣
Dont feel bad my dad said to me once hit the ground with the trimmer head and it will add more line.....this mean that You always need someone to teach you the first time Then all else is history. Ut happen bout 35 yrs......true story
I appreciate you. 1st day with my trimmer and I'm just learning all of this. What seems implied for one is unknown to a lawn noob like me. It wasn't even in the instructions, thanks for filling the gaps!
Thank you! I have never worked in the yard before, until now after recently buying a house. I couldn't figure this out. Now I know. Thank you for being one of the few who understands that us beginners need help! Lol
Finally found the technique after much searching . Much appreciated and thanks for sharing . Been Using my trimmer for 10 years ( shindaiwa F220) , and it never occurred to me to bump the head on the grass … I always manually pressed the bump with the motor off to advance the line .
Didn't grow up in the States, new homeowner here. I thought my weed wacker was broken for the six months and tried to find a DIY fix with the same issue... thank you so much for this video!!
This video is great because as not a very buff woman everytime ive tried to change string I've been utterly exhausted trying to get the spring condensed while turning, and it was as easy as just copying this guys hand placement all along. 😂
Been using my trimmer for years and didnt know this. I was lead to this video from your string thread video (I needed to know how to open the bump head with the string caught inside). Thank you.
I know this is how it works on my trimmer (I have the Milwaukee M18) but when I bump it exactly like this with the engine on, more string doesn't come out.
Just touched and filled a weed eater for the first time. I knew that spring button had to do something to help with the string. Your video helped me 100%, bc I never thought to try it while running!! 😂 Your video was straight to the point!! Thank you!!
Do you have any ideas as to what could cause it to not let string out properly? Using the right size line, I've tried re-stringing and still haven't been able to get this mechanism to work for me
I couldn’t find any videos on this and it’s the one thing I can’t figure out. Unfortunately when I bump the trimmer, the line doesn’t extend so there must be something else I’m missing. I’m thinking it might be because I’ve been coiling the wire myself inside the head, and I just saw a video showing you’re supposed to slide it straight through the head instead. I will try that tomorrow and see if the bumping works.
I usually leave mine laying down, but I've had it propped up as well. My Grandfather always had his trimmer hanging on the wall...never had an issue either, so I don't think it really matters.
On an echo make sure the feeder has the “L” letter on the top so it is visible when reinstalling. On a Stihl the “R” should be visible! The line feeder is made for both echo and stihl brands. If you don’t have it on the correct way- it will not feed the line!
I just got an echo 2100. I bit the bullet and went battery operated. Probably a stupid question but I’m gonna ask anyway, is the same process for letting trimmer line out on the gas operated one the same as the electric or battery operator one that I have?
I followed all your instructions to feed the trimmer and I’ve done good with that but when I cut and bump the cord retracts Instead of coming out. What am I doing wrong?
Lmao tuning in with my new Milwaukee quik lok trimmer, never really used one before so I had no idea about the bumping, I was just spinning the head the other way and pulling string out lol
Mine gets the string stuck and have to open the container (whatever is callede) every so often. I bought the string size needed and rail it in as you showed on your previous video. Anyone else having a similar problem?
the cap (where the string comes out of) is a pop up cap, you have to push REALLY had on the 2 sides that hold it in place. it took me a while, but eventually, I got it. I think there is another video showing you how to open it.
@@anotherperspective5945 I haven't. Started to buy another head on it, but it was just too expensive... and the issue may still be there. I may just buy an electric one.
Gets too hot and sticks together. I've seen videos that say to soak the line in water -zip lock bag- for 24 hrs to rehydrate it. Even new line can be dried out as who knows how long it was in the store.
It sounds like you didn't wind it correctly. If the string is going around the spool the wrong way, instead of feeding more line out, it will pull it back in.
It’s ok at least you are learning - my daughter never wanted to learn but now she is 25 and I’m sure she wishes she would have wanted to know how to now.
Nah man.. the average user doesnt do this for a living.. So you just have to bump the head? okay sweet.. cuz I was very close to getting a new trimmer. Been having to stop every 5 minutes to reload the string.. lol.
I find it funny that whenever I bump my model on the ground it does the complete opposite, the string becomes shorter and shorter till it gets jammed inside. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
Normally I've just been yelling and screaming at the trimmer but this works so much faster and easier.
🤣
I feel so stupid now, I wondered what that spring was for. Here I was stopping the trimmer and pulling it out manually. Thank you for taking the time to show me the correct way!!!
Lol I’ve been doing the same thing, so glad I now know how to do it the right way
Omg I trying to pull it. Senior moment
Don’t feel bad… me too
You’re not alone! Lol
Glad I'm not the only one.. this model looks almost exactly like my PAS-225.. I'll be finishing my lawn way, way faster now.
Thank you I'm seventy-year-old woman that's never touched a weedeater before this was very helpful thank you
THANK YOU!!!!! I’ve watched 10 videos looking for this answer on how to advance the string. Finally!! It’s not something everyone knows and I greatly appreciate that you taught us. Seems intuitive, but not to everyone. 🤣
Crazy I was thinking this is a dumb whack!!!

I couldn't figure out why my string was not feeding on a new ego unit. Now I know. Simple of fixes. Thank you so much Sir.
Thanks. I had this problem and spent 20 minutes looking for a video that explained it. Rank amateur here.
This video is great because as not a very buff woman everytime ive tried to change string I've been utterly exhausted trying to get the spring condensed while turning, and it was as easy as just copying this guys hand placement all along. 😂
Thank you! Grew up in apartments so now that I have a yard i was clueless and so were all my family members.
You learn something new every day right? Haha. Thank you Douglas
Been using my trimmer for years and didnt know this. I was lead to this video from your string thread video (I needed to know how to open the bump head with the string caught inside). Thank you.
I THOOUGHT I had to bump it, but being a gal, I guess I wasn't bumping hard enough. Thanks for taking time to do this video!
This little tip make some of us smile really BIG!! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks - this is one of those things that they think is so obvious that they don't bother putting it in the instructions!
That’s so cool!! Had no idea! Thank you for the video! 👍
I know this is how it works on my trimmer (I have the Milwaukee M18) but when I bump it exactly like this with the engine on, more string doesn't come out.
So far me neither?
Its probably bound up inside. Take it apart and re string it making sure not to tangle the lines
@@chadbaker712 I saw a vid that said to soak the string in water to rehydrate it. Keeps it from binding up.
Thank you! I’ve watched so many videos but none showed the bumping part!
Thank you! I’m Edging to surprise my hubby and I couldn’t figure out how to get more string out.
31 years old i just learned this😂 thank you
Ohhh my God!!!! Thank you 🙏❤!!! This video is a blessing!!! I was having a hard pulling the thread all the time 😢
Question is there anything you can do for any upkeep we should be doing if the string won't advance and seems stuck
Great video I never knew a blade comes under the guard that cuts the string cool😎
THANK YOU My first time weed eating. my line was 3 inches.
thank you so much. my instuructions didn't say all the videos are for replacement.
Just touched and filled a weed eater for the first time. I knew that spring button had to do something to help with the string. Your video helped me 100%, bc I never thought to try it while running!! 😂 Your video was straight to the point!! Thank you!!
Bro you saved me. I tought that my trimmer is broken
No matter how many times I bump it, it will not advance. Could there be another issue happening?
Do you have any ideas as to what could cause it to not let string out properly? Using the right size line, I've tried re-stringing and still haven't been able to get this mechanism to work for me
I’m one of the dumb people who didn’t know this.
Needed this. Ty. Teaching my son and this helps, I didn't know and now I Do.

You say “give it the gas” , which I take literally- use the trigger to rev the motor. Gonna try that. I was just bumping the feed head to no avail.
Can you this parts where the line goes. Mine no longer holds the line in. I had to take apart due to a clog. Is there a spring or anything?
What is the best way to store the ECHO SRM-225 Trimmer. Example laying down, standing up ect....
I usually leave mine laying down, but I've had it propped up as well. My Grandfather always had his trimmer hanging on the wall...never had an issue either, so I don't think it really matters.
Thank you! Finally!!

yes!!!! L on the bottom or your is backwards
Thank you. This is what I was looking for.
ight thank you guys.
DUDE! THANK YOU!!!!!! 💗
Great video. Helped a ton. The whole
Time just a tap. Lol

I have a old echo SRM and I can adjust how much it cuts off on the guard by moving the metal piece from 6 in to 6 and 1/2 what's it supposed to be
Hi guy amazing video n better job.you make everyyhing easy.thank you
Curious when I tap the weed wacker the line goes in the reverse direction I’m not out?
Man I can’t tell you how mad I was at bump heads till I watched this lol
I followed all your instructions to feed the trimmer and I’ve done good with that but when I cut and bump the cord retracts Instead of coming out. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks all this is new to me.
This was so helpful!
Ong thank goodness for your info , senior moment lol coukdjt figure out how it can thread out..
You're the man
I'm looking for this explanation, how to feed out the line. Most of the video show only how to reload the line. Thank you.
Omg thank you 🙏🏾
Mine gets the string stuck and have to open the container (whatever is callede) every so often. I bought the string size needed and rail it in as you showed on your previous video. Anyone else having a similar problem?
How do you open it. Mine is stuck
the cap (where the string comes out of) is a pop up cap, you have to push REALLY had on the 2 sides that hold it in place. it took me a while, but eventually, I got it. I think there is another video showing you how to open it.
Trying to figure out how to get the line to come out of both ends. Mine only has it coming out of one.
An obvious non-trivial extension of this idea, is, how do you know if it has used up the line it has, vs. you have encountered a problem in the head.
Mine you have to really hit to get any line out of it. What causes that? I have the echo speed feed as well.
I wondering 🤔 - thank you!
Is this also for the stihl fs40c?
Does the R face the ground or the L on an echo ??
Su what happens when you bump and it sucks the string in?
What if you bump it on the payment or ground and still it doesn’t feed more line.
😧 I had no idea. I've been doing it manually
Of course when i bump mine to the ground it feeds IN instead of out!... What did i do wrong?
I’ll pump the head but the string goes in? What did I do wrong?
Thank you sr ..👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have a brand new one, I’ve been using bump feeders for ever it seems but I can’t get this one to feed….why would a brand new trimmer not feed
Thanks a lot
I’ve been turning off the weedeater and re-wrapping the string 🤦♂️
Thank you for the info. As a girl/woman. I would not know this.
Thank you
Bro mines use to do that .now it can't ...can you plz tell me why is something a problem?
When I bump it, the string goes inwards instead of releasing more please help asap
Omgggg Thankyou so much!!!!!
Yes, easy, but mine isn’t feeding. Loaded properly. I have to manually stop the motor > click with hands > pull both strings with both hands.
You figure this out? I have the same issue
@@anotherperspective5945 I haven't. Started to buy another head on it, but it was just too expensive... and the issue may still be there. I may just buy an electric one.
Is this the same with every weedeater? Mine wasnt working took it apart and it was stuck under itself, maybe that's why it wasnt feeding
Gets too hot and sticks together. I've seen videos that say to soak the line in water -zip lock bag- for 24 hrs to rehydrate it. Even new line can be dried out as who knows how long it was in the store.
Thank you!
Ughhh, knew about the bumping part, forget to hit the gas as I was doing that
So when I bump it - it actually goes further in? What am I doing wrong? 😣
I have the same problem. Did you figure it out
It sounds like you didn't wind it correctly. If the string is going around the spool the wrong way, instead of feeding more line out, it will pull it back in.
It could be the spool is in there upside down. If I were you I’d try taking the head apart and flipping the spool over and see if that fixes it.
Awesome 👍
Hey thanks.
What about when bump feed stops working?
Investigate why it's stopped. Have you run out of trimmer cord and it needs respooling? Has the hump head itself become damaged?
Thankyou You Rock!
Lol I was stopping it and manually trying 😂
What if you bump it and the line goes back inside the head?
It could be the spool is in upside down in the head.
I tried banging it on the ground still not releasing string what am i doing wrong
Same problem I'm having
If it still isn't feeding out... On an echo make sure the feeder has the “L” visible when reinstalling. On a Stihl the “R” should be visible.
Thank you for this. mine is not working and the R side is. showing. I'll try to reverse it and see if that fixes my problem
awesome
“I thought it was common sense”
Me, 22 years old googling how to weed eat bc my dad never taught me😳
It’s ok at least you are learning - my daughter never wanted to learn but now she is 25 and I’m sure she wishes she would have wanted to know how to now.
Hey im 32 and a bloke so ... yeah
When I tap nothing happens it doesn’t move and no string comes out
I don’t know what the deal is but mine is going in instead of coming out 😅
video starts abouut 1:20
I feel stupid, too 😂
Thank you much, just be carefully with eyes.. protection ok.
Wow I've had mine for two months and couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I swear it's not in the manual
For this work on all makes
They should call it a bump feed head like everyone else.
Nah man.. the average user doesnt do this for a living.. So you just have to bump the head? okay sweet.. cuz I was very close to getting a new trimmer. Been having to stop every 5 minutes to reload the string.. lol.
