    Most people buy these without factoring in spares and repairs. They're rare, so maintenance costs are high.

    I would recommend a Renault Megene RS Trophy 300! Under 200 in the UK, it's got rarity on its side, and I got mine for under 22k, so it definitely fits the criteria.

    • @urdaeatmoths
      @urdaeatmoths 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn't fit this, the Renault Megane RS is so close that to someone who doesn't see the minor differences in details would have no clue. You're never mistaking any of these cars for their inferior models.
      And don't take this as hate, they're a stunning car but it's like suggesting the Renault Clio Gordini is special because of limited numbers.

    If you want something rare and exotic and like the MX-5 or the Lexus, look at the Healy Enigma - it uses their engines and looks like a classic. The company back story is brilliant too, as this was going to be MGF replacement and they also do the Aston Martin racing carbon fibre 😮

    Why pick the Z3M when the better looking Z4M is a similar price?

    • @derin111
      @derin111 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Z4M is currently criminally undervalued (in the UK anyway). I have one (in Roadster form….which in the M version is actually rarer than the Coupe) and there is very little that can deliver that kind of performance at the prices that they currently are.

    Also a big fan of rarity! I think my Cayman was the most common of my last 3 cars, tough to know the exact number from How Many Left as it doesn't separate the 987 and 981, but looks like about 3k of the 981S.
    My current Pug has 716 on the road (plus 260 non-PS, no idea why anyone bought those!), while the GS450h is a few hundred, but in Premier spec (as it should be) there are 273 of them.
    All that said, I don't actually pick cars for rarity. I just find that common cars tend to be very neutral and dull to drive - same as I don't like pop music, 20 years of studying music means I can't listen to those same damned 4 chords with autotune over the top (that could turn into a *LONG* rant so I'll stop 😄).
    Common things tend to be more focused on not having flaws than being actually interesting. I prefer to overlook a few flaws and find what's exceptional. I'll take sub-par feedback from the steering and gearbox for the sake of a crazy engine and brilliant chassis.
    Really what I'm saying is, a plain doner kebab is fine, but add chilli sauce and it's so much better, even if you know it means Johnny Cash is paying your rectum a visit the next morning. In case anyone reads that and doesn't understand, well I think it sounds more concerning that way so I'm not going to explain 😁

    The Nissan GTR may not be rare, but, maybe some of the iterations maybe?
    A friend had the money for the first one and i suggested it.
    She came back with the whip smart answer...
    Im not paying £50k for a Datsun.

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The "I'm not paying £50k for a Datsun" thing is just a great reason to get one.
      I had a GS450h for a couple of years and my boss at the time had a 520d (and many other, nicer cars!). Multiple people asked me why I bought that "boring hybrid Toyota" - yet nobody who had been in it asked the same question for some reason. Funny how when you put the electric blinds up, turn on the cooled seats with moisturising aircon and point out that the electric motor has more power than the BMW, but it's got essentially an Evora engine as well (because why not), then floor it...they seem to stop calling it a boring Toyota.
      It's just so satisfying when people say, essentially: "you should have bought the generic crap that everyone else does" and you can just be smug. Now I get "why did you buy a Peugeot and not a Golf R" and...well there's a *long* list of bullet points for that one 😁

      @@michaelrobson3460 Ah but there are 2 dinner party tests:
      a) You can impress everyone at a dinner party.
      or
      b) You can make everyone throw up on the way home from a dinner party 🤢🤮🤣
      Leather seats are wipe-clean, totally worth it.
      My last car (981 Cayman S) almost failed dinner party test c) Does it have enough seats to get people to a dinner party. Thankfully, Porsche kindly installed compartments behind each seat that are, whether they admit it or not, 100% certainly designed to carry 3 bottles of wine each...
      Personally I go with another dinner party test anyway: if they don't like my car, I don't like their dinner party 😁 Their loss, especially if I'm bringing the wine!

      @@michaelrobson3460 I love a GT-R, great car.
      That said, I find there are so many cars with impressive performance, grip and practicality that I don't get excited about any of that stuff really. For me, it's about sound, drama and any other traits that just make the car interesting/exciting.
      Of course, the GT-R does also do all of that pretty well - it may have seemed like a computer game when it came out, but by modern standards it's surprisingly willing to hoon around - I've only driven one once, on one of those experience days (they can be fun, but you rarely get to drive much)...the instructor got annoyed when I got the rear out at 130mph, which is my highest speed sideways moment so far! That it sounds great is also a huge bonus.
      Reason I never considered a GT-R was always the running costs. I did the maths and it would have cost me something like 4x more than the GS450h or 3x more than my Porsche- although to be fair I still don't quite understand how a 3.4L NA Porsche does 47-48mpg on long runs, but it regularly did! My 1.6L Peugeot struggles for 45, albeit with short gears and a 36 PSI turbo - even a GT-R uses 13 PSI...I got a 3 year warranty because I am *definitely* blowing that up 🤣

    Problem with the rcf is just the price, for 23k there are so many better alternative options

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Better in what way? Faster, sure, but that's a really bad reason to buy a road car (more on that in my tl;dr bit!). More economical definitely, but not the point of course. More fun to drive, on track 100% but on a road? Very questionable. Reliability? Nothing will be better. Sound? Maybe 5 cars at that price. Practicality? Sure, but nothing that matches the other stuff.
      Not saying I'd pick the RCF at that price - I haven't, multiple times, but I certainly dispute there being "so many" better alternatives for £23k. I tried to drive every car I was vaguely interested in under £50k used (and a few over that) in the last 2 years, was pretty thorough, and I'd have an RCF in my top 10 even at that budget - at £23k only the fuel economy ever stopped me. Slight disclaimer to everything I've said is that I've technically only been in a GSF (which is a better car by all accounts) and had an RC300h for 2 days as a courtesy car for my GS450h, but that's enough data to work out what an RCF is like.
      Got a bit tl;dr, but I also typed the below to give more detail...
      I considered an M4 Comp ahead of a RCF last year for only 2 reasons, which are that the M4 is surprisingly economical (and I was buying for long runs) and I'd had a GS450h 3 years earlier so fancied another change. Otherwise, RCF sounds infinitely better and it's just a far superior ownership experience in terms of reliability, customer service, etc (BMW can be good dealers, but *very* inconsistent). RS5 interior is nicest, but that and the C63 overall just didn't compete.
      RCF isn't the fastest, but after >3 years of Porsche ownership, I don't care how good any driver thinks they are - the only way a Porsche driver is dropping a chav in a Peugeot with a loud exhaust down a B-road is by killing themselves or, more likely a cyclist. Most cars are performance limited by the driver or the road at this point, not the car. Hence, if you can't beat them (you can't...seriously), join them: I turned down the Giulia QV, Alpine, M4, etc...bought a chavvy Pug with a silly exhaust (1 pic exists on JB's insta since it has his sticker...).
      If you want anything like as good sound as an RCF for that money in a vaguely modern/comfy/usable car, you're either looking at sports cars (hence the 981CS I sold last year), an E60 M5 which isn't vaguely comparable in running costs (even with the lower purchase cost) or an RS3.
      Edited to fix poorly-chosen wording...

    • @infinite_azure_
      @infinite_azure_ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it's due to speed then there's no point in looking at other cars unless you track your car. The rcf is PLENTY fast otherwise. If it's due to interior then fair enough some ppl hate the lexus interior due to its age- personally I think it still looks good
