They make Romex that is suitable to be run in a trench. It is called UF-B, and can be buried without conduit. That being said, what they ran looked like interior romex.
These older folk are the real deal. Plus most have shine licenses if you actually speak to them. Show has a scripted layout, but at least they make real shine.

They screwed up big… the underground pipes are not deep enough.. when the tiller comes through the field it’s gunna rip it right out of the ground… being it’s down south I don’t think the farmers go as deep as up here but I’d say they have to put the pipes about a foot down at least if they don’t use disks or molboard type plows… I know chisel and cultivators don’t get very deep but that’s my view of the only problem I see with the setup they have
