Great video Declan! Exciting time on your farm. New animals and new equipment. Fine looking group of calves. Took to grass with a lot of joy. Always a pleasure to see. Smart idea with the Heatwave system. Best wishes!
That looks a great job Declan, them calves are a credit to you, you can't beat giving plenty of milk to calves. And I find when they are eating 1kg of nuts you can wean them and get them up to 2kgs until they go to grass this time next year. It might look alot but it's the only way they will pay you. Great calves. 👍
For beef cattle bullocks go for a better price in the cattle market and you know what your getting in the market too. But great video really enjoyed it💪💪👌👍
Yes that will probably happen the first time they feed on it, they will overeat and get bit of scour maybe but they learn from that and adjust very quickly. Wasn’t much of an issue and knowing others use the same system. It is unreal handy ya
@@IDoAgri thanks for rapid reply 👍🏿. I take it ya you mix ah week mix first and then bring it up in strength over time ,like you have there a big barrel and they work away then .
Until what age are you considered feeding them the powder and how much a day are they on ? Are you going to be let them in at night-time to feed on milk ? Have you given them any vaccinations like from pneumonia apology for all questions
The biggest issue with the heatwave, they will end up drinking upto 15litres a day ad lib. At least 2 bags of powder at the point of weaning. Then because they are taking all there dry matter intake via the ad lib milk at the point of weaning there hard feed intake is far to low. Put the pipes on to water only at night towards weaning to try and encourage meal intakes for at least 2 weeks.
That’s a great bit of advice Andrew I am too late to do that with this batch but it’s all about learning I will keep that in mind for the next batch! You reckon two weeks of water to them at night or am I misreading what you said?
Yes no milk at night for at least a couple of weeks heading towards full weaning, but still access to milk in the day. The problem with ad lib milk feeding, is there is no incentive for them to take on sufficient meal because milk is so much easier for them to consume than meal. If they are not taking in sufficient meal at weaning all of that extra milk that they have had will be counterproductive. Cheers
Very insightful great to hear the reason for it aswell! These calves were eating through a a fair lump of meal while on the milk too but perhaps they could have gotten more but it think the fact that they are fighting for one or two teats all the time means the others are eating the meal when not on the year if you get me
The calves are a credit to you, the trick now is to keep them going for the rest of the year a kilo or two of meal every day for the rest of the year and you will have great strong little cattle going in next winter, I always think that if you put a few quid into the calves you will be paid back on the double for the investment, it annoys me to see little pot bellied calves in September that are only about the same weight as when they were weaned, when for a few kilos of meal they could be 220 to 250 by housing.
Ive the shed left open to them where they have water and thats where im feeding them the nuts at the minute so yeah they have shelter at night but free to explore if the weather suits!
I’ve one got already I showed it at the end of the video on the forklift mast it is a John Deere 245 loader that I plan to restore I’ve new valve block and joystick sorted so despite the age and wear it should feel like new in my hand haha we will see?
If i were you id be looking at vaccination for pneumonia the stuff we use last time worked out £10 a calf so if you did do 20- 30 only 1 saved would pay for the job
How are the calfs doing, I was looking at this video of 3 months ago interested to see how they are doing,
Thanks Brian.

Very busy this weather but I have one small one out tomorrow and will keep going after that sorry for my absence! Thanks for the support Donal
Hi Declan just wondering what CAD system you use trying to just do abit along side welding
I use Solidworks with weldments features for steel profiles especially

Comment for the algorithm to help the channel 👍.
its very early to have calves outside . if its possible to house them at night
Ive the shed left open to them where they have water and thats where im feeding them the nuts at the minute so yeah they have shelter at night but free to explore if the weather suits!
@@IDoAgri yeah that would help to prevent pneumonia .
Do u think u will get a loader for the Deere

Did you get a new woman
Seems a bit to high for them. Run the risk of going down the airway. I hate them teats with a passion.
I would say a bit high too unless tilted downward a bit
