Tate seems to have really cleaned himself up a lot and looks happier.. He was definitely in some dark places before and after leaving Queensryche.. It seems that Tobias has really helped him out a lot and set him on the right path.. Everyone needs a little help and push sometimes..
Thord My very thoughts exactly! I said the same thing on another video with Geoff and this band. It just sounds so much better for his voice than his own music and it does indeed sound like Geoff went back to the basics and got his voice in shape again.
Thord Hey, I wanted to watch this again and decided to check out the comments as well. To be honest, I have not listened to the Operation Mindcrime albums. I am going to give them a listen since I have heard a lot of positive feedback about them.
It's such a sad world we live in that vocalists are frequently judged by their "high notes". You know, there are many more qualities to a good voice. Granted, in popular music (meaning anything non-classical, not necessarily "pop") providing the person can actually sing, a good voice is subjective. People get so caught up in their own tastes and opinions though believing them to be unequivocal fact which is just plain wrong. Some of my favourite vocal performances from Geoff are all on the Promised Land album. Out of Mind, the title track, Lady Jane, One More Time and Someone Else. I assure you, it's not because of any presence of "high notes" but the melody, power, passion and unique texture of his voice. He hasn't lost that. In fact, he could pretty much still sing anything from the Promised Land album without issue. Narrow-minded Metalryche fans are just salty that he doesn't wanna restrict himself to just one genre and one style of singing. In more recent years he'd even been scapegoated for Queensryche's diversity in musical direction but I must point you towards the writing credits for Hear In The Now Frontier and one name you will find plastered throughout all but one track. It's not Geoff. Geoff has always been and always will be a fantastic vocalist. Sure, he has his off days but so does any vocalist on tour. It also needs to be remembered that he's not in his 20s anymore. He's 60 now and was in his late 50s here. His voice is fantastic for his age. Just look at someone like Ozzy. Guy can't sing for shit by comparison and no one bats an eyelid. Yes, I'm aware of all the "controversy" but we don't know the man so shouldn't comment. It shouldn't affect our ability to appreciate good music.
J Ryan metal is an unforgiving genre, and yea, you are judged by technical ability or lack thereof. At one time I had the chops to play drums at a professional level, but I’m 35 now and don’t have it. Never will again. Mr Tate gave us Operation Mindcrime. He will always be legend for this. But he cannot produce at the level required to continue with the band.
@@ray32245mv Bollocks. Besides, Queensryche were never a straight metal band. Not since their first album. Also, "high notes" do not equal technical ability. It strikes me that you responding to my comment merely to start an argument as you know your opinion differs drastically to mine. You are welcome to respond once again if it brings you joy to get the last word in. Just know that I shan't be bothering with your after this single courteous response.
J Ryan Actually a good voice is determined by ones vocal technique and this is an objective measurement. Now, a good singer is subjective since personal preferences and taste come into play as far as ones appreciation for a singer’s timbre, tone, style, melody, etc.
Thank you sooo much for uploading this! My fave from Ghostlights! I missed this song in Bremen last year where Geoff for some reasons couldn't be there :/

Geoff's voice and presence is just flat out captivating!
This sounds so good. The song is perfect for him. The whole concept of avantasia suits Tate very well. I hope we will hear more of them together.

Brett Owen i love the operation mindcrime albums. But it's a different thing. I understand what you mean though

Wow I thought that part of of Geoff was dead. Glad to see it's not
These guys sound excellent together. I actually like Geoff singing this more than a lot of his later stuff.
Tate did some voice rejuvenation apparently. Great work dude - refreshing to hear!
Tate sounds awesome on this. I hope he brings this voice to his next album.
Love the stage design... & of course Geoff Tate... 🥰
Tate sounds great !

He was on tour with his own band
After hearing this.... I believe that Geoff is that "something" that Nightwish needs.
Whats funny is, little by little, in every new Avantasia album, Tobias gets to sing with most of his idols...
Fantastic song!
