2024 Chanukah Yarns are Ready to Ship! chemknitscreations.etsy.com/?section_id=25065368 Mini Skein Samplers, Full Skeins, Stitch Markers, and Bonus Colorways!
I don't think I've ever tried to dye them the exact same way before in the same pan. I've compared different 75/25 yarns before, but maybe each was dyed no its own vs all together?
Actually - this could be another reason why things behaved differently from how I expected... minis vs full skeins? Who knows until I try to control for some of these things someday.
Stroll has very similar specs to platinum sock but I think it is a little loftier more woolen prep than platinum which always feels denser and smoother. I suspect that more airy structure on stroll lets it absorb the liquid into the strand faster than the platinum.
Like dawnjanz, I liked my yarn so much better "in the flesh," so to speak, than on screen. My mini-skein most resembles the first batch, with a lot of blending and shading. It's always fun when there's variation across the dye lots to try to place my own skein amongst all the rest.
I wondered if the heat level when the first batch of yarn was added to the pan might have made a difference (or not). I have to dye on an electric stove, so the control of the heat to keep things at a simmer is fairly difficult, because the burners don't cool down as fast as when using a gas stove so the simmer ends up being closer to boiling than it should be... I do like the skein I received very much! I also love that you call your mistakes "happy accidents"... I have a lot of those when I'm dyeing yarn, and I learn from them too.
I'm on a gas stove, so things are likely more consistant heat wise... but the yarn definiately floated to the top. There are so many times I can get reproducable results reusing a dyebath, and I think had I started fresh maybe I could have ended up with more similar results. Of course other variables include how slow or fast I pour on the dyes, if the yarn is floating, etc.
First, I am thoroughly enjoying these videos. OK, I enjoy all your videos... You mentioned several times that the changes from batch to batch could be a difference in the water levels. I think that is correct, and also could result in a change in acidity levels. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you did one more batch with a completely fresh pan of water and acid, with the same amounts of each, heated to the same temperature. Would that batch look more like the first one?
I think the yarn floating is not something that i see consistantly, so I'm not sure if i could make that happn again on purpose. I think the best way to get things to be similar here would be to start with fresh dyebaths each time, but I also don't check the temperature when I'm dyeing things so that could make a difference.
This is not my favorite of your colorways, I liked the rainbow speckles better, which is strange because I prefer space dying generally a lot more then speckles (I don't care for speckles as a personal taste thing). *shrugs* But thank you so much for filming, I do very much enjoy watching even when the particular colorway is not to my taste.

“Same” Yarns from different mills can be crazy different to dye! So glad to hear it’s not just me.

Interesting observation about dye absorption between the two yarns.

Love this night! Pretty sure I got the 3rd batch.... Love it!
YAY!
Oh, I cannot wait to knit this one. The early evening gradient is it for me.
Thank you!!!
I think this was so interesting and so way cool! Love the color way. Ox blood is my favorite red. 😊
Thank you!!

This is very possible

Good evening.
Hi!
The two on the right remind me of rocket pop ice cream😁
i can see it!
I really didn't like this yarn in the pan at all, but once I unwrapped it it's beauty was apparent.
I'm so glad you liked it in person!
I'm pretty sure I got one from batch two or three!
WOohoo!

I was definitely wondering about temperature, since I would think a hotter bath would have more movement
I was inspired by DPW 543 (i think that's the number) th-cam.com/video/hDlboWwwQ3w/w-d-xo.html
