    Maybe break it in properly next time.

    yes, that burnout alone without breaking in the belt would’ve more than likely contributed the most to the meltdown.. high range to boot aswell, break them in by the book and they will last a long time.

      exactly what I was going to say, alot of people do this. Break it in with the tires its designed to have on it too. A little patience breaking a ATV in will go a long way.

    That's really weird man... my buddy had an Outlander 800cc and they ran it 7 years and loads of hours and work on it before the belt even started slipping... but they just fixed it then sold it for a Honda Rincon.. not a very fun machine, but it never gives them a problem lol... but 7 years before any real issues was darn impressive for a can-am if you ask me.. lol

    • @seabass22

      lol they sold it because it needed a new belt?

    • @LOUDNPROUD
      @LOUDNPROUD 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      REEF X mr no.. they fixed it and then sold it... they just realized since they worked their atv so hard they needed something that wasn't belt driven for reliability reasons... so they bought a Honda rincon. More similar to a car drivetrain.

    • @seabass22
      @seabass22 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOUD 'N' PROUD yeah...but 7 years... Lol

    • @LOUDNPROUD
      @LOUDNPROUD 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      REEF X mr well they didn't start using it for heavy work u tip like 3 months before it started slipping... and when you start to work your atv daily, you need something that's not gonna keep failing on you... so since they needed it for a different purpose they had to switch it up..

    The front brake system is tied in to the rear system...wen you pull the fronts the rear grab too.
    Wen you power brake it and pin it ..the clutch is fighting the brakes got it hot and bam belt done

    I have a Can Am Commander 1000 and changed the belt at 3,000 miles. It still looked great and I kept it as a spare. I owned several Sportsmans and never blew a belt and I drive hard. I always use low gear in mud and water, steep hills etc. High gear in strenuous situations will blow a belt for sure. I'm not saying that's what happened in your case but I know a lot of people that don't ride properly with belts.

  • @Thatgreenbronco
    @Thatgreenbronco 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    you should think about upgrading the primary clutch to a cvtech, the stock primary lets the belt slip on the inner sheave while a cvtech is a fix sheave clutch and won't let it slip at all.

    I have a 2014 1000 outlander XMR. And it has about a 1000 hours on it. And it still looks brand new. I've never swamped it or try to use it as a boat. I use it to pulling trailers. retrieving big deer out of the woods. Sprayer my fields. And it has never let me down the first time.

    Just changed my belt from factory.
    190 hours
    1800 miles
    And its still good. Just has a small flat spot that was annoying on take off.
    And on 5 hours you never let your belt seat in. Thats why it went.

    Para i got 500 hours on my 2008 outlander a little tip of advice take your Belt cover off and silicone it I went through one belt the first 100 hours then did that so i have about 400 hours on my belt and is still going good. What happens is water gets into there and the belt slips which wears on the belt much quicker. Also if your going slow put the quad in low or youll burn the belt High is meant for high speeds or when you wanna step on it.

  • @codybazemore9811

    I have a Polaris scrambler 1000, smoked the belt in 10 hours, due to one ride. Was riding in a sandy creek with deep water got stuck and was in high. You need to be in low gear when your riding in mud or water or spinning tires like that. It happenes easier then you would think. Water isn't going to damage your belt that fast. I've had water in my belt housing a bunch of times. Just drain it and kept riding!

    I think you just had bad luck, I have had very good luck with can-am. Our 2010 outlander 800 has gone through 7 years of hard work, top speed, and 4' deep mud pits, all it had go wrong was a popped tire because we ran over a nail. Still runs like a champ.

  • @ehTV1000

    Some things you should know about your Can am. Many of them leak through the back side seal of the clutch cover. Easy to tell. Fill the cvt with smoke or water through the snorkel intake to find out. I think the heat might warp them or something. Won't hurt it to check. The other thing is the clutches them selves. they slip a lot and burn belts.If you weren't in low then that one burnout could cause this alone. All the boys I ride with have the aftermarket clutches witch solves the problem. Also the man to deal with when your diff goes is Muddndiff. He's the guru here in Canada. Cheers and good luck. Great vid BTW Cheers

  • @stevegabel5952
    @stevegabel5952 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's because of the power and torque, the stock clutch does not back shift It self and with that you get lots of heat so the belt starts to melt. get yourself and after market clutch and that will go away.

  • @donelias1981
    @donelias1981 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd recommend belt break in, my '16 1000R XMR has 1500 miles on stock belt mainly high gear, first 30 miles was light acceleration in high and low to use the entire range of the CVT, my '13 Polaris Sportsman 850XP has 2400 miles on stock belt. Also make sure the vent tubes are free if they are blocked belts will smoke.

  • @122funny4
    @122funny4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its pretty much manufacture fail on that belt(usually in 2000miles they give up). I suggest some aftermarket clutch and gates belt, as I'm mechanic working on atvs, utvs, bikes, usually factory ones are good enough, only hard working (wood hauling out of forest through mud) atv-s are having problems with belts. Suggest QSC kit, it's fully adjustable, and come pre adjusted for your usage if asked.

    OK, I have been riding for over 40 years and there is a reason that things are done the way they are done from the factory. A lot of people are never satisfied with what they get. It is not recommended to modify your ride. YES it can be done BUT keep in mind changing tires means rear end, gears and belts and clutches will file. Plus the thing when new has a break in period. I have had Honda, Can am for years and NEVER had an issue with either.There is a thing that comes with each ATV its called a manual read it, learn it, love it and live by it. If you MUST modify your ride keep in mind you have altered the factory specs and failure is enviable. The only place you can find free cheese is in a mouse trap. Can am is a Ski-doo product witch has been around since 1959. The original name was Ski Dog. The first three-wheeled ATV was the Sperry-Rand Tricart. It was designed in 1967. 1981 first HONDA 3 wheel trike. Suzuki was a leader in the development of four-wheeled ATVs. It sold the first model, the 1982 QuadRunner LT125. In the United States, statistics released by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) show that in 2005, there were an estimated 136,700 injuries associated with ATVs treated in US hospital emergency rooms. In 2004, the latest year for which estimates are available, 767 people died in ATV-associated incidents. According to statistics released by CPSC, the risk of injury in 2005 was 171.5 injuries per 10,000 four-wheel ATVs in use. The risk of death in 2004 was 1.1 deaths per 10,000 four-wheelers in use. The percentile of injury and death was 88% related to not following manufactures manuals and safety guides in relations to owning an ATV. Where I grew up you where required to take a safety cores before owning an ATV.life is common sense witch most people do not have these days. Before you can get a drivers license you have to take a drivers cores and then a written test and drivers test. Just remember just because you can don't not mean you should. I have seen a lot of deaths from ATV'S, Snowmobiles and motorcycles that should never have happened.Taking unnecessary risks and being stupid will get you dead quick. REMEMBER KIDS DEATH IS AS REAL AS IT GETS AND ITS FOREVER...... Have fun be safe and ride smart.!

    That's crazy? I like can am alot but can't afford one so I got a 08 kawasaki prairie 360 4x4 belt drive and I can't kill it. I buried it to the handle bars in the lake and still come out. Rolled it by accident off the bank into the lake filled the belt box up with water and still drove it home. It runs perfectly to this day and is a solid 4wheeler, still on the factory belt too. Weird a brand new bike burnt the belt that quick?

      mud maniac Can't say I did the proper break in on the 1000, but do you really think it should have broke in 5 hrs when I only went hard on it twice? I don't believe so man, but I definitely respect your comment and appreciate you watching!

    • @mudmaniac2977
      @mudmaniac2977 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      no I don't believe that would have killed the belt either it could have just been bad from the dealer. I was just giving some insight on how I did it and it seemed to work for me. if it were mine I would follow break in directions on the new one and if it happens again it could be clutch problems or something. good luck let us know how the mav belt holds up for ya

    I wouldn't worry to much about running a maverick belt or gates or whatever. The biggest thing is the "proper" belt break in and using high and low for what it's meant to be used for. Watching you and your brothers videos of y'all riding both of y'all were definitely running the crap out of some high gear when u should have been in low during the break in. Can am is definitely not to blame in any aspect IF u didn't break the belt in. I run 31 outlaws with a 6" lift on my 16 outlander 1k. Have yet to have any belt problems at all and that's with a stock clutch and stock belt and about 800 miles. And if ur gonna change the diff don't look and any other diff than a mud n wheels diff. Toughest diff on the market period and they are around $1000. But none the less keep the awesome vids coming! Good stuff as always

    You want reliability and power as well then you need a yamaha. My 05 grizzly 660 old school carborated bone stock still has factory tires, has over 14k miles on it, has been flipped, sunk, and done burnouts jumps and other things and still runs like new. Only thing i ever replaced was the battery after it sat last winter. Actong owning this machine ill always be yamaha all the way.

    Minded exact same thing and then after I got the belt replaced within 30 miles of having the new belt installed the rear clutch Bolt came off on a high speed pass at 60 miles an hour good thing it didn't jam up and lock the rear end up and mines a 2018 Can-Am Outlander 1000 XMR

      on a side note there has been a lot of polaris fires they are ok bikes but they mount shit in stupid areas on them like the battery at the bottom of the machine and ect... bottom line is every machine has its pros and cons there is not one machine that is God and completely perfect thats for sure

    I read there is a break in period for the belt as well. You could have put to much stress on it before it being properly broke in. Just my guess. I just got the 2018 outlander 1000xmr and already have 15 hours on it and have not had any issues thankfully. Good luck with your next belt and hope you don't have any issues in the near future.

    Also be careful line locking it and spinning the tires, if you hold your brakes to long especially the foot petal it will throw a Check engine light or should I say throw cash at the dealer light and trip to the shop to replace the brake sensor

  • @loganking1078

    putting the smaller tires on it I think would've messed with gearing of the clutches. The clutches were geared to run the bigger tires and not the 26s. I know when I asked my dealership about regearing for big mud tires on my maverick that if I switched back to the stock tires I would have to regear again or else I would just smoke the belt

    I'd be willing to bet it burnt up because when you use the front brakes it also uses the back brakes as well, put all 4 tires in the air and free spin the rears and hit the front brakes. It should stop the rear wheels. Hope this helps

    The dealership should know that if they sell them.
    Dont belive me test it out
    Pull the fronts and hold step on the rears you will feel the fronts give... does the same if you do it the other way too..

    the belt going is not your fault. its a common issue on XMR's just not sure about it happening that early. the issue with any can am XMR is that it is not geared properly. it is geared the same as a regular 1000 and so it struggles to spin the bigger tires, so just riding normal will wear it out. if you can lower the gearing you should help your belt issue, but may put more stress on your diff.

    The gates belts are way cheaper on amazon. If it was me I'd start looking into stm or qsc clutches. Then you won't have belt problems. The shitty thing about canam clutches is they only grab one side of the belt. So in theory you are always slipping the other side.

    The biggest thing is you have to be in the gear most relative to the speed you're going I learned that with my Polaris ranger side by side if you always put it in high you'll smoke the belt so fast
