  • Join us in Amritsar today as we set out to explore the centre of the city and the beautiful Sri Harmandir Sahib Golden Temple. But first things first; we need to each cover our hair before entering the Golden Temple - and so Gavin has the chance to try something he has been wanting to do for a while now - come and see as he tries on a turban!
Special thank you to our fantastic tour guide Anil (+91 97802 34705) and to the team at Lal Ji Pagri House for your expertise with fitting a turban!
    Thanks for watching! :)

The Harmandir Sahib /Golden temple communal kitchen (Langar) in Amritsar is probably the largest in India , serving 100 ,000 people , who are seated in rows to eat . However , there are two Sufi shrines in Pakistan that serve food/Langar to more people daily (150-200,000 normally and up to 500,000 on Urs celebrations ) but they aren't seated , the people line up to take away their food . So Harmandir Sahib is quite special at a number of levels . Of course , Guru Nanak Dev learnt many things from the Muslim Sufis including the Langar feeding tradition.

This Temple is the biggest inspiration to end racism in the man that he thinks he is richest,or smartest, strongest, this temple is a best mirror to know that you are just a normal person came to this world your real earnings is humanity & respect which you earn & takeaway even after death

you should have had langar in golden temple, you should never miss holy food, your guide should have insisted you to have langar.

It has nothing to do with Hinduism and its beliefs. So, better call it a Gurudwara.
I wanna say one more thing... one person is saying that this Gurudwara is related to their god hari , so let me clear you he's wrong. We(sikhs) worship one true formless God. Not many gods like them .

Hari Mandir means the Temple of Lord "Hari" which is another name of Vishnu / Krishna.
Shree Hari Mandir popularly known as Darbar sahib or Golden Temple was managed by Mahants (Hindu priests) till 1905. In 1905 the temple was desecrated and the Hindu deities and priests were throw out by the British supported "Singh sabha".
Hindus then re-built the Durgiana Mandir i.e. Durga Temple in 1921 and housed the deities there. This Durgiana Mandir / Temple is walking distance from the Golden Temple and looks very similar to the Golden temple including the Temple with a real Golden center.
To understand why this happened is an interesting story and I will post it if you guys are interested.
This topic is "Taboo" in punjab, especially around the golden temple and even Hindus there will not dare say it because of the danger it will put them in.

when India was being invaded one after another by outsiders in ancient times it was the Punjab, now divided between India and Pakistan which took the most beating. because of gen*cides one after the other it gave birth to the warrior community called Sikh. they have saved millions of Indians specially women. they are a big reason that present day India not an Islamic country.

I don't think so. Sikhs were always a minority in West Punjab and there are still sizeable number of Sikhs there, they're mostly concentrated in 7-8 cities in Punjab plus a small community in Peshawar (NWF/KP region ). I have had the honour of meeting these people and visiting some of their gurudwaras when I was last visiting there. In addition , very Iarge numbers of Sikhs visit from Canada and UK, each year to Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib.
